Be Careful What You Wish For

Jack wakes up feeling refreshed. Finally, after all of this suffering, he’s able to sleep. It’s been like this ever since he started to chat with Selene. Just after their first conversation, the visions almost completely stopped. After each time, something else started to go away. He’s not sure if this is because she asked her sister about the matter or not. Selene has yet to say if she brought up the issue with her. Whether this happened or not, everything is going great. Jack can still sometimes hear her sing and mumbling, but compared to what it was, this is nothing.
In fact, everyone around him has noticed a difference. For one, he’s actually around other people now. Before he barely left his place. He didn’t want anyone else to know what has been happening to him. No one would probably believe him, but still, he didn’t want them to keep asking him about it. Jack actually has yet to tell Alex about the progress that has been made. He keeps meaning too, but at the same time, he doesn’t want to think about how bad it got. Alex doesn’t know about that either. Once the visions started up, he cut off everyone.
Hm. Maybe he should update Alex today. After all, Alex was the one that tried to help him. Then maybe when this is all over with, he’ll tell all of his other friends.
How is this going to end though?
Jack just sits there and starts to think about it all. He can’t just stop talking to her. He even wants her to meet all of his friends. What would they think though? Putting all of the magick aside, he’s twenty-four, almost twenty-five, and she’s only eighteen. In fact, she’s still in high school. Well, she’s about to finish up her last year but still... Then what about her aunt and uncle? If they find out about any of this, nothing good is going to happen. Are they going to have to keep this all a secret until she’s away from them? Will they even have to keep it a secret until after she’s older?
All Jack really knows is that he doesn’t want this to stop.
They haven’t been talking for very long, but he already feels connected to her. It’s not just because they are soulmates too. He doesn’t know what she even looks like, but he’s starting to be attracted to her romantically. Jack isn’t really sure if she feels the same way towards him, but he imagines that she does. Again, there is the whole soulmate thing, but Jack just feels like... like she has some kind of feelings for him too. He’s not sure how or why he is feeling such a thing. It might just be him being optimistic or maybe it deals with this whole soulmate and spell situation. Either way, Jack feels like she has feelings for him too.
Perhaps... Perhaps he should bring this up to her. Then he could hear it from her.
Ugh, but what if she doesn’t feel the same way?
Stop it, Jack. Stop it. You need be positive.
Yeah, he should. He should do this. No, he needs to do this. It’s settled then. He’s going to confess his feelings for Selene during their conversation today.
Jack goes about his day like he has been. He stays inside though and mostly just watches TV. He’s nervous about later, and he also has been trying to figure out what he’s going to say and even how to bring up the topic. With all of this thinking, he completely forgets to update Alex. When it’s time to start their chat, he has barely done anything. It’s not like it matters though. He’s about to confess his feelings to an eighteen-year-old, and he doesn’t even know what she looks like!
Calm down, Jack. You can do this.
Jack gets as comfortable as he can on the couch and slows down his breathing. In. Out. In. Out. Let it all fade away. Let their connection come. There. He can feel her. Here it comes...
What?
Jack’s eyebrows scrunch together. He could feel them connecting, but then... What happened? Why was he cut off? He works on his breathing again and focuses on Selene. He can’t... Why can’t he feel a connection? Jack does his best to connect with her, but he’s no witch, and the connection doesn’t come.
What does this mean? Why can’t they connect? It’s time, and it’s not like they left off on a bad note. What’s happening?
In pain, Jack covers his ears. What’s happening now? He hears a muffled voice, and it’s yelling so loud! He can barely stop himself from screaming out in pain. He can’t lose himself to it. He has to do something! Jack is just barely able to grab his phone and text Alex for help. He’s surprised he’s able to do that with the agony that he’s in.
It’s too loud. It’s too loud! It’s too-
And with that, Jack passes out from the pain.
When Alex gets there, he finds Jack laying on the couch. Not sure of what just happened, he quickly runs over to him. What happened? Is he alright? Will he be OK? He can see that Jack is breathing. That’s at least good. Alex shakes Jack awake, and when he does wake, he can barely keep his eyes open.
“Jack, are you alright? Tell me you’re alright.”
“The yelling stopped. Ugh, I can barely keep my eyes open though.”
“Just keep them shut then.”
“Alright.”
“What happened? You mentioned yelling.”
“We... We couldn’t connect, and then I heard this muffled yelling in my head. I think it was Selene. She might be in trouble.”
“Selene? Who’s Selene?”
“The girl. The girl with the mask in my dreams.”
“Wait. You know her name now?”
“Yeah, I’ve been talking to her. It made everything not so bad. In fact, I was getting sleep. You must have noticed. But now... Now I just feel drained. The connection is gone, and I don’t know why.”
“I still have no idea what you’re talking about, but we’re going to get to the bottom of this, and I’m going to help any way that I can.”
“Thank you.”
And with that, Jack passes out again.

Notes

The new album is out, and I just had to write out the next chapter. I think I'm about to work on the next one as well.
Sadly, not everything is going alright for Jack and Selene. I wonder what happened? On the bright side, it looks like Jack is starting to have feelings for Selene.
