Time-Bomb

Misplaced Words

“What?” I asked.

“Would you come on tour with us?” he asked more slowly.

“Why?” I asked.

“I want you in my life, and the guys miss you.” he explained.

“What would I even do? You guys don’t need an extra person because you probably have enough people on the bus already.” I reminded him.

“You’d do merch with Vinny. It gets old for him after awhile, even if he doesn’t complain.” Alex told me.

“What about Josie?” I asked.

“Take her along. It’ll be a great experience. You know, not all three year olds get to say they went on tour with their dad’s band.” He replied.

“Can’t argue with that logic.” I laughed.

“So will you come, please?” he begged.

“Fine. When do we leave?” I sighed.

“In two days. But you’ll need to move in with me so we can leave the morning of without driving all around town.” He explained.

“That’s so soon.” I whispered.

“I know. Honestly, I didn’t plan on running into you. That show today was just a quick performance before Warped. But obviously...” he trailed off, waving his hand around.

“It’s alright. I just wish this had happened sooner.” I told him.

“Me too.” he smiled a little.

--

We went back to my house. Thankfully, Bailey had gotten Josie ready for bed. She was just waiting up so she could say goodnight to me.

“Daddy!” Josie squealed, tackling him.

“How would you like it if we went on a little trip together?” Alex asked her.

“Can we, Momma?” Josie begged.

“Yeah, can we, August?” Alex chimed in.

“Of course!” I laughed.

“Now go get into bed.” I told Josie.

“Will you come up and read me a story?” Josie asked.

“Of course.” I smiled and kissed her head. She ran upstairs.

“She’s got you wrapped around her little finger.” I told Alex.

“Yeah.” He grinned.

“How’d you do it?” I asked in amazement.

“I could ask you the same thing. I can’t imagine taking care of a little girl on my own with no one to go to for advice. Hell, I can barely take care of myself. I lose my voice and my things all the time and I could manage to burn water.” He told me.

"Alex, you can't burn water. It just turns into steam!" I laughed.

"You know what I mean." He rolled his eyes.

“Yeah, I do. And you’re here now. And be happy you missed the diapers. Also, tell the guys to watch their language around the Josie. I don’t want her sounding like a trucker on the afirst day of school.” I told him.

“Sure thing.” He laughed.
--
The next day, I moved some of mine and Josie’s things into Alex’s place, and the day after, we were on the bus for Warped.

“Everyone in?” Matt asked. Him and the crew took turns driving so the boys didn’t have to.

“Yup.” I told him and we were off.

We drove for hours and tried to keep everyone from being bored. We finally headed off to bed. Josie had one of the bottom bunks and Alex took the other. Jack had the bunk above Josie and I had the bunk above Alex. Rian and Zack had the top ones.

“Alex?” I whispered, leaning down.

“I wanna ride the bull!” he moaned in his sleep. I giggled.

“Get up!” I hissed, jabbing my foot into his stomach. He grunted.

“What the fuck?” he whispered.

“Can’t sleep.” I answered.

“Come lay with me, then.” He told me and I did so.

“See, aren’t I cuddly?” he asked.

“Like a gorilla.” I mocked, stroking his thigh.

“Well then, I’m not giving you any Milanos.” He huffed.

“You don’t have any.” I told him.

“How do you know?” he asked.

“Cuz you’re sick of them.” I smirked.

“True.” he chuckled.

“Alex?” I asked.

“Yeah?” he replied.

“What are we?” I asked.

“What do you want us to be?” he asked.

“Well, maybe just friends. Like we were before we had sex and everything.” I replied.

“You know we can’t go back.” He told me. Even in the dark, I could see the pain in his eyes.

“I know, but I liked it that way. Besides, we can’t start a relationship now, when we’ve got a three year old daughter.” I told him.

“Why not?” he asked.

“It’d mess with her head, I don’t know.” I replied.

“You’re seeing someone else, aren’t you?” he asked, a glint of jealousy in his eyes.

“No, of course not! I can’t have strange men in the house with Josie.” I told him.

“Well I’ve seen a lot of girls to keep from missing you, but it never worked.” He replied.

"I don't blame you.” I said.

“You should.” he told me.

“But you were just doing it to get by. I wasn’t in your life.” I reasoned.

“You’re right.” he nodded.

'Night Alex." I said.

"'Night August." he replied and we both fell asleep.
