“Right, wait here. I won’t be long” Vic said to me as he swung open the car door. I nodded slowly, it wasn’t like I was going anywhere anyway.

“Okay” I watched him as he walked up the neatly paved path that led to Alex’s door. I sunk back into my seat, hoping Alex wouldn’t see me. I didn’t want him to think I was being rude. It was just easier for everyone. Less awkward. Vic knocked the door, risking a look back at me. He grinned, obviously my pathetic attempt to hide myself was funny to him. I waved my hands around, gesturing him to turn around before Alex answered. Luckily enough the door swung open just as Vic spun around. Alex answered the door in grey sweatpants, hanging loosely on his hips and a tight fit white v neck. He ran his hand through his messy hair, releasing it to wave at Vic briefly. He stood aside to let him in with a smile, closing it once he was inside. I exhaled and slouched against the seat. Now I just had to wait.

I had been sat in the passenger’s seat of Vic’s car for no longer than 5 minutes when I saw a little dog sniffing around a few houses up. The way it proudly trotted along in the sunshine made me smile. I assumed the little thing belonged to one of Alex’s neighbours, cute little thing. I didn’t think much more of it, only watching it until something else caught my attention. I sucked in a deep breath, blowing out the air in my cheeks. 2 minutes my ass. Vic was taking his sweet time and it was getting too hot in the car. I could see the heat radiating off its bonnet. I just wanted to get out. But of course I couldn’t, it wasn’t worth the risk. I closed my eyes, tipping my head back against the seat. The window next to me was open but there was no forgiving breeze. I looked towards the end of the road, trying to work out if I could find my way back to the house from Alex’s. I pulled out my phone, texting Vic.

‘I’m going to walk back, I’ll see you at the house’ I got an almost immediate reply.

‘Sorry, taking longer than I thought. Okay, in a bit phoebs. Call me if you get lost, we all know what your sense of direction’s like’ I rolled my eyes as I read the last sentence, though it was just for my benefit. I swung open the passenger door and stepped out into the baking heat. I never thought I would miss English weather. As I passed the end of the road, I noticed I had a follower. The little dog from earlier was bouncing along behind me. I flashed him a smile before turning my eyes back to the road.

I had been traipsing around for 10 minutes, walking in circles. I began to regret leaving the car. The realisation that I’d probably be sat in the house by now if I hadn’t of left made me want to cry. The heat was blistering and I just wasn’t used to it. I really didn’t want to give in and prove him right, but I was going to have to call Vic. I reached into my pocket, feeling my phone and pulling it out by a corner. But I flicked it out too hastily and it slipped from my sweaty palms. I cussed, praying I hadn’t smashed it up. As I bent down to pick it up I felt a warm rush in my head, my ears buzzed and my breathing became irregular. I put my hands either side of me in an attempt to steady myself, but it was too late. I felt my balance go and my limp body hit the floor as it went black.
