Imprint

Three

I wanted to go see Elizabeth so badly today after school. I had to tell her about my new friend, Jack. He was so cool and I needed to tell her about him.

"Liz-be," I called as i walked into her house. I was like another son to Elizabeth's parents so I was welcome to walk in any time.

"Lex," I heard her call back. Her little nine-year-old self came running towards me and tackled me with a hug, "I missed you!"

"I missed you too," I replied. I hadn't hung out with her in a week due to school, "So I have something to tell you."

"So do I," she smiled and released me, "But you can go first."

"I made a new friend at school," I told her, "He's super cool and he plays guitar and likes the same music as me. His name is Jack. Now what's your news?"

"I turned for the first time last night," she replied smiling still, "And I found out about the imprint. I imprinted on you, that's why I'm so close to you."

"I imprinted on you too, Liz-be," I replied, "But I don't know what it means though."

"You will in time, Alex," she replied and hugged me, "We both will when get older. That's what my dad told me."

It was my sophomore year at Delaney. Elizabeth is in middle school now. I met a girl that I really like. Her name's Lisa and she's a cheerleader. But now she's my girlfriend and I want Elizabeth to meet her.

"So you're best friend besides Jack is three years younger than us," Lisa asked as I led her down the street to Eliza's house.

"Yeah," I replied, "Her parents are good friends with mine, so we've been together since we could remember."

"That's cool," she smiled and leaned into me, "I'm glad you're introducing us."

We got to Eliza's door and I knocked. I was greeted by a smiling Eliza, but her smile faded when she saw Lisa.

"Hey Alex," she greeted me, "Who's this?"

"This is my girlfriend, Lisa," I told her, "Lisa this is my best friend, Elizabeth."

"It's nice to meet you, Elizabeth," Lisa smiled at her as I led her inside, "Alex has told me a lot about you."

"I bet he has," she replied, glaring at me.

After some time, Lisa left on her own to go home, leaving me and Elizabeth alone. I knew something was bothering her.

"What's wrong, Liz-be," I asked.

"How could you," she whispered.

"How could I what," I asked her.

"You won't understand," she replied, "You haven't come into the imprint yet."

"The imprint," I asked her, "What about it?"

"It's complicated," she dismissed my question, "It's getting late. I'm sure your parents will want you home before the pack meeting tonight."

I left her house, confused by what she meant that I hadn't come into the imprint. What the hell was she talking about?
