Chapter Twenty-Four: Breathe

I've got a lot to say, if you will let me
It's always hard, when you're around me
But here right now, there's interest in your eyes
So hear me out, and hear this the first time

When Jack got home, he lifted his head up, searching around the house. When his eyes caught his dad, sitting on the sofa, a riffle next to him, his head and eyes automatically dropped. His dad has always had guns. Pistols, Shotguns, the lot. He practices down at some forest, shooting targets.

"Care to explain why you're late?" His dad asks, knowing he won't get an answer. You could tell he had been drinking by the way he slightly slurred the words. Jack gulped, his eyes still locked down on the floor. He didn't dare move; not one step. He knew what his dad is capable of.

"Are you mute or something?" His dad asks, laughing evilly to himself. Laughing at Jack. Jack didn't even shake his head, his breathing just became quicker.

"Do you like guns, son?" He suddenly asks, standing up. Suddenly, a loud click surrounds the house. Jack's breathing stops, knowing exactly what that noise is.

He could hear his dad's footsteps becoming closer and closer, his breathing hitched every time his foot slammed down on the lament floor.

Step. Step. Another step. Silence.

Suddenly, something cold was pressed against his head. A gun. Jack felt himself tense up, his body becoming numb.

"You seem troubled, son, what's up?"He asks, the metal pressing more against his head, the cold irritating his skin.

"Please..." Jack whispered, fearing for that trigger to be pulled. Even though he thinks it's best for him to just not be here, he doesn't want to die this way.

"Hey, look at me!" He yelled, pushing the back of Jack's head to the front door with the gun. Then the gun was under his chin, his head being held up by it. Jack closed his eyes, not wanting tears to escape in front of his father. Jack doesn't even think his dad is a father. More like a monster.

"Are you just not gonna answer my questions?" He asks, staring at Jack's closed eyes. Jack could feel the eyes burn into him. He didn't know what to do. He kinda knew he had to answer his dad's question, but having a gun pulled up to you, it isn't so easy to speak.

"Do you think I won't do it? Do you think I won't pull the trigger? I will. I will pull it right here, right now!" He gritted through his teeth, pushing Jack's head a little more.

"D-Do it." Jack whispered, finally letting the tears run. His dad just laughs.

There's a long silence, and right now, Jack just wants it to be over. He just doesn't want to be another worthless youth on this planet.

"BOO!" His dad yells, making the gun shake his hand. Jack jumped, his dad laughing hilarious at his son. Then, the gun was pulled away, his dad still laughing. Jack felt humiliated, and cried more.

"Go on! Go upstairs and never come back down!" He growled in Jack's face before returning over to his couch, collecting more beer. Jack couldn't move at first, too frightened to even make one step forward. When he calmed down, he walked out the front door instead of going up to his room. He didn't even want to be in the same house as him. His mum will be fine without him. Jack didn't even know how she could cope with such a monster like him.

He had no idea where to go. Maybe to the forest? What about Alex? He said I was welcome anytime. But did he mean like this? A crying, shaking Jack? Jack just decided that a warm, different house is much better than a freezing, dark forest. To Alex's house.

Jack kept his head down as he lightly knocked on Alex's front door. He took a deep breath, trying to clear all the tears and stop shaking, but it didn't happen. When the door opened, it was luckily Alex and not his mum.

"Jack?" Alex said questioningly, not expecting it to be Jack. Jack sniffed. I should have known it was a bad idea to come here. If Alex could see right, he could see the redness of Jack's cheeks and the tears that lay on top. And he did see them rightly.

"Jack, come on, let's get you in." Alex said, noticing the way Jack was shaking. He didn't know if it was because of the weather (that isn't too bad), or something else. Jack ducked his head lower, gripping onto the end of his sleeves with his slender fingers. Alex stood at the door, keeping it open while Jack walked past him, head low, body still shaking. Alex closed the door, walking over to Jack.

"Jack, are you okay?" Alex asks, concerned for the darker haired boy. Jack nodded, lying. He wasn't going to tell, Alex, was he? Why did I come here if I'm not gonna tell him what happened.

"Jack, go sit down, you're shaking really badly," Alex said, before changing his mind. "No actually, let's take you upstairs, you need to lay down." Alex said, gripping onto Jack's sleeve at pulling upstairs. Jack let Alex lead him up to his room, wiping the tears with his other sleeve.

When they arrived at Alex's room, Alex walked Jack over to his bed.

"Jack lay down on my bed, you need to lay down." Alex said calmly, looking over to Jack. Jack shook his head.

"N-No." Jack protested, not wanting to take Alex's bed because Alex will need to sleep in it. The caramel haired boy sighed at Jack's stubbornness.

"Just go lay on the bed, Jack, you need it. I don't mind. I'm gonna go get a drink of water for you, you better be under those covers when I return, I swear to God." Alex said in a warning tone before walking out his room. He didn't mean for his voice to come out that strict, but he really wanted Jack to lay down in case he falls or possibly faint. He went to the kitchen, grabbing a glass and pouring water into it. He doesn't know if he should ask what's up with Jack, or let him tell him in his own time. He shrugged, making his way back upstairs.

When he did arrive in his room, and saw Jack laying in his bed, under the covers, Alex sighed with relief, walking over to him and handing him the glass. He could see Jack's face clearly, seeing a blush of embarrassment on his face. It's rather that, or he's not feeling well. But Jack was embarrassed. He's in someone else's bed, and they bring up a drink, it makes him feel embarrassed. Especially as Alex hasn't known Jack long.

"Here," Alex says, handing Jack the cup of water. Jack's cheeks darken, and he can't stop the little smile that appeared on his face when he went to grab the water. Jack gulped down the water nervously, his hands shaking slightly. He was calmed down a little because for some reason, the smell of Alex's covers made him relax. Just knowing his savour is next to him, even though he was downstairs. That's what Alex was to Jack: a savour. An admiration, and a crush.

"Do you want to talk to me?" Alex suddenly asks, sitting on the end of the bed at Jack's feet. Jack thought Alex meant talk as in 'do you want to talk', and not 'talk about what's wrong'.

The darker haired boy nodded, holding the glass in his shaky hands.

"O-Of course I want to talk to you, you're my-" Jack stopped himself before he let the word out. He was going to tell Alex he was his savour, but stopped himself because he thought it would've freak him out. Alex looked confusedly at Jack.

"I'm your..." Alex encouraged, the confused look still plastered on his face. Jack bit his lip, shaking his head and backing down. He couldn't tell Alex his problems. There's too many. Aldemar, social anxiety, depression, abuse from home and self-harm. He couldn't tell Alex all that.

"Jack, talk to me, tell me what's wrong. You can trust me." Alex said truthfully, because he knew he could keep a secret. Jack didn't think it was about trust, more like if he was emotionally able to tell Alex what's wrong.

"I-" Jack sighed, finding this harder than he thought. He could form the words. He looked down at the glass, trying to form the right words. Half of him wanted him to tell Alex what's been going on, the other doesn't. That other side still belongs to Aldemar. He breathed in deeplt-go with what you think is right- exhale.

"T-there's a lot of t-things that are wrong in my life," Jack said quietly, Alex just catching what he had said. Alex listened carefully, moving forward so he was at Jack's knees. Jack let out a deep breath again.

"And if I was to tell you, you'd think I'm crazy." Jack bit his lip from letting more tears spill. Alex shook his head.

"No I won't, I promise you, Jack. I can tell you're going through a lot of shit. I-I want to help support you through every single problem, okay?" Alex asks, reaching over and touching Jack's hand. Jack immediately flinched, not liking the contact, not after what happened at home. He moved his hand away from Alex's before sighing mentally, this time placing his hand on Alex's. He looked down at their hands before moving his eyes up upon Alex's. Alex was smiling widely, giving Jack just that little bit if confidence. Alex had actually been dying to hold Jack's hand, but he'd never admit it. He listened closely as Jack continued.

"I've, well, I don't know how to put this," Jack took in another deep breath, squinting his eyes up.

"I have a evil voice in my head that makes me do, and say, stuff that I don't want to. H-He made me push you that one time. I-I also have social anxiety, depression, an abusive dad and when you're not here, I struggle with self-harm." Jack finally let it out. Alex is the first ever person he's told about all his problems. It feels horrible, but in some way, good. He gasped as he felt Alex give him a tight hug from the side. His previous deeply breathing became softer as he hugged Alex back, the empty glass still in his hands. Alex Gaskarth, his crush, his hero, is hugging him.

@Twat

oh Damn, sorry. Aldemar died because Jack had did what his father had done... Like, Jack had basically died for a moment, so Aldemar died and never came back when Jack did. I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe I should've included that.
