The Rock Show

Two Different People, Two Different Places

Chapter inspiration: Point of View – Blink 182

It seemed that Victoria was practically hiding out at the merch tent every day, except when the band was actually there. She was also avoiding some of her other friends too. She avoided Tay at all costs, knowing the brunette must be pissed with her when she heard of the fight that broke out. And just when Victoria thought she’d made another friend …

The only person she regularly went to see was Jenna. It seemed Jenna was the only one who understood her and didn’t judge her. She didn’t tell Jenna about Lisa’s new blackmail, though. No, she kept that to herself no matter what.

But she knew that no matter how much she wanted to, she couldn’t ignore her “chasers”―quoted by Vinny; made shivers send down her spine, might I add. She had to start with the main instigator: Jack.

It was not going to be easy.

“Can we talk?”

Jack looked up from his spot by the side of the KIA stage, his hand still in place where he was cleaning his guitar. Victoria guessed she shouldn’t have taken the confronting approach, seeing as the look he gave her wasn’t a good one.

“I thought you weren’t talking to me.” He muttered, moving back to his guitar that Victoria noticed was already clean enough.

She looked away, acting confused. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Victoria,” he spat out, like her name was bitter to taste.

She sighed, thinking of another way to start this. “So how have you been?” She tried again.

“You know, I’ve been kinda pissed lately.” He stared straight into her eyes, and for the first time ever, Jack made her want to cower in fear.

“About what?” She said, almost egging him on to talk more.

“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s―oh, yeah, it’s you.” He shook his head, narrowing his eyes at her in the process. “You could’ve reacted a little better when I told you my feelings.”

“Well, what did you expect me to say, Jack?” She hit her hands at her sides. “I’m not one of your little fangirls that faints as soon as you step near them. I’m an actual person.” She sat on the amp besides him. “Did you think I was going to instantly tackle you as soon as you told me?”

He shrugged. “It was what I was hoping.”

“I’m not good with this kinda shit, Jack. This isn’t Twilight, and I won’t be a Bella Swan. And I’m especially not a prize to be won. I won’t be the trophy you get after you and Alex fight to the death. This isn’t going to be one of those stupid romance novels that middle-aged women read with Fabio on the cover. Do you get what I’m saying?”

He scoffed. “Alex won …”

Victoria let her head fall into her hands, shaking her head. “No, Jack. No one is winning this. This isn’t a contest.” She met his eyes again. “I do love you, Jack, don’t get me wrong.” He perked up at that. “But not in the way that you think.” He instantly went back to cleaning his guitar and she still continued. “Okay, look. I should’ve reacted better when you told me your feelings. I’m sorry about that. But I still want us to be how we used to. I want us to go back to being good friends. I want us to go back to spending late nights with popcorn and watching Jack Ass. I miss those fucking moments, man.” She searched his eyes, waiting for an answer. “What are you thinking?”

“I’m not … good at this sort of thing, Vic. You know that. I don’t like talking about my feelings. I just know that …” He trailed off, finally looking at her and sighing. “I know that no one will compare to you.”

“Jack …” Victoria pinched the bridge of her nose. “You don’t deserve someone like me. You deserve someone who shares the same strong feelings.”

“But, I―”

“Like Tay,” she interrupted, and instantly regretting her throwing out the suggestion. Tay was going to kill her even more.

Jack’s brow furrowed. “What about Tay?”

“She’s cute and funny and amazing.” Victoria smiled and nudged at her friend’s side. “And word around the street is: she may have something for you. But you didn’t hear it from me.” She dramatically winked.

He rubbed his arm. “I don’t know …”

“Jack,” she frowned, “you can’t tell me out of the years you’ve known Tay, you’ve never thought for one second that she was gorgeous.”

“I have a couple times …” He then turned to her, wide-eyed. “But don’t tell her I said that.”

Victoria giggled. “Well, if you feel that way and she feels that way, go after her! It’s better to chase someone with reciprocated feelings than one with nothing at all.”

And in that instant, he brought her into a hug. She didn’t expect it, and was kind of shocked at first, but she then hugged him back tightly. “Thanks, Vic.” He said, and she could almost hear his smile. “I hate to admit it to myself, but I always knew you were for Alex.”

“Jack―”

“And my feelings will subside after a while,” he continued. “Just give me a little while with Tay.”

Victoria leaned away from his lanky frame. “Okay, big boy.” She laughed, slapping his chest.

He smiled big, something you actually don’t get to see very often. “I’m really happy that we’ll always be friends.”

“Me too, Jack.” She smiled and watched his tall stature ventured off to the WATIC tent, mumbling to herself, “Me too.”
