Holding On To Keep This Strong

It's a Date

Alex opened the door to his apartment and carried the things he'd picked up on the way home into the kitchen, among those items various ingredients for Jack's requested pizza. He'd also gotten roses, candles, paper lanterns, string lights, and a brand new quilt. He may have been going a little over the top but this would be his first time on a date in nearly a whole year, he was going to make it special. And the fact that Jack happened to be his date...ten times more special than any other date he'd ever been on, why Jack made it feel so significant he wasn't sure of, but because of that he'd make their night fucking fantastic.
Alex made his way towards the living room, hoping to find that Kyle had come out of his cave. He sighed, the platinum blonde was no where in the room, beginning to make his way to the guest room.
"Woah, watch out there." Kyle laughed, Alex nearly walked right into him.
"Sorry." The brunette laughed.
"I see you're up."
"Yeah...I'm going to meet Travis." Alex nodded, trying his best to show no emotion on the matter.
"I know...I shouldn't but yesterday we talked and today he called apologizing and asked me out to dinner. He's staying with family like thirty minutes away, promise, I'll be alright." Kyle looked hopefully at his best friend, obviously wanting his approval.
"I trust that...I just don't know why you two keep trying to make it work...Ky, last time he cheated on you. Are you really up for that again?"
"N-no...but when we're together it just makes me so happy and he's the sweetest little goofball... I just love him too much to let him go."
Alex nodded, he barely understood where Kyle was coming from but he got the gist of it. Letting go sucked, he'd struggled with it himself for years...letting go of someone you loved with all your heart, Alex did it and it wasn't easy. Of course it wasn't in a romantic sense but he related the best he could.
"Go ahead. Jack's coming over tonight anyway." Kyle broke into a wide smile and poked his friend's shoulder.
"Look at you. Is it a date this time or are you just hanging out like last night?"
"Its a date. He said he was my boyfriend today, so it's definitely a date." Kyle nodded, his eyes wide with excitement for his friend, a grin now occupying his lips.
"You should show him the roof top. Its pretty up there."
Alex smiled and nodded. He'd settled on his apartment due to the rooftop that he'd gained ownership of while renting. Sure it didn't mean that much, he just needed a place to live and keep his books safe, but the idea of being able to read on a rooftop during the summer or just laze around in privacy while getting fresh air, well Alex couldn't resist it.
"That's not a half bad idea."
"Well duh, it came from me. Anyways I've gotta get going, I'll be back later tonight, kay?"
"Alright. Bye Ky."
"Bye Lex." The peroxide haired boy said with a smile as he planted a kiss on his friend's cheek then headed towards the door. Alex rolled his eyes at the act of affection and turned to watch Kyle go. Sure it was really none of his business but he couldn't help but want to stop his friend from walking out of the door. There was too much bad history between Travis and Kyle, no matter how much Kyle happened to love the ginger haired singer Alex didn't , no couldn't , bring himself to trust him. But as Kyle always said, the heart wants what the heart wants, so Alex had to stand by and watch. After all Kyle was his own person and Alex had no right to hold him back.

"Cassadee! Get your butt out of the bathroom and help me pick out a shirt." Jack shouted from his dresser, throwing clothes behind his shoulder and onto the floor.
"Alright, I'm out. Can't you wait for Zack? He'll be here in like five minutes."
Jack shook his head and turned around to face Cassadee. "I'm just nervous...I haven't gone out with anyone in like years. I can't help it." Cass nodded and made a sympathetic smile. She knew exactly why Jack hadn't gone out with anyone in years, which was exactly why tonight happened to be such a big deal.
"Y'know you guys won't turn out like them. You've got no reason to worry." She said quietly, leading Jack to sit next to her on his bed.
"Yeah...but I can't help but think that things with anyone will...y'know how when my parents first got divorced and I was just coming to terms with who I really am?" Jack asked, staring at his plain bedroom door. A million thoughts rushing through his head, the memories of that night standing out among them all. His parents divorce had hit him hard, harder than anyone knew. He had to move into a new home, he rarely got to see his dad afterwards, and the worst of all was possibly his step dad that came into the picture just two years after the separation. His emotions around the entire situation still hadn't calmed after all of the passing years. They hindered his very being from growing the way he should have, his parents made him a skeptic on love and a cynical thinker about every romantic emotion he felt. Which made nothing easier with his current pursuit with his teacher. "I kind of just felt like the timing of it all was saying something. The night I was going to tell them they told me about the divorce first...it scared me. I thought that no matter who I was with it would end just like them and I'm still kind of scared of that happening." He turned and faced Cassadee with his last breath, clearly upset.
"Don't be scared, you've got a really great guy who's into you and he's willing to risk his job for you...you can't let your fear get the best of you now. I will admit it is a little weird that he's our teacher and all but you can't back out on him now."
Jack laughed a little at that, Cass was completely right. He couldn't run, not after only a few hours of exclusively being Alex's boyfriend. It would be completely cold hearted not to mention cowardly on his part. "You're right." He grinned and stood up from where he sat. "I can't let him down and I can't do that to myself either."
"There you go Jacky. Now how bout I start on your hair before Zack gets here and slows us down." The lanky teen nodded and headed towards his bathroom, Cassadee following right behind him.

Notes

Yes I'm holding out on you guys, at first the next chapter was supposed to be part of this chapter but then I ended up changing it and then this happened. ALSO I'm off schedule with when I write and update (this update is actually throwing me compleletely off) so next weeks update may be a tad late. But anyways I hope you enjoyed this (even though its really short and not the greatest) and as always feedback is appreciated.

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
