Holding On To Keep This Strong

So Sorry

"Whose this, mate?" Oli asked, looking over at Jack who sat on the couch keeping his gaze on Alex. His eyes boring into the brunette, making him increasingly more uncomfortable.

Alex paused before opening his mouth, he was completely puzzled on what to say or do. He couldn't just say that Jack was his boyfriend, but he couldn't just dismiss him either. "Uh...this is my, uhm-"

"I'm his boyfriend." Jack cut him off finally taking his gaze off of the dirty blond boy and onto Oli.

"Oh..." Oli frowned a bit and leaned against the shut front door. "Aren't you a little young, mate?"

"Uhm...Jack's my student." Alex admitted, looking nervously to Oli, obviously expecting the eldest of them all to flip his shit. But Oli did quite the opposite and simply raised his eyebrow at Alex.

"Wow, you've gotten yourself in quite the situation...that's actually kind of amusing." He said with a light hearted chuckle. "It's fine though, I wouldn't rat you guys out or anything. I'm just going to trust Alex's judgment on this one."

Alex smiled weakly and looked to Jack who just rolled his eyes, yeah Alex may or may not have been in big trouble. "Uh...thanks I guess."

"No problem, Lex. Anyways you two probably have a lot to talk about...I'm gonna go. Tonight was fun," Oli directed at the teacher before looking back over to Jack who hadn't moved from his spot on the couch. "It was nice meeting you, Jack. Maybe we can talk again on more formal terms later."

Jack faked a smile and nodded. "That'd be great."

Alex looked to Oli, silently pleading him to stay because lets face it he was not up for facing Jack right now. But Oli pretended that he didn't catch onto anything, though he very well knew what Alex was doing, and opened the front door. The British man waved before walking through the door and leaving the couple alone.

They stayed as the were for what felt like the longest moments of Alex's life, the younger boy just glaring at him. The anger Jack felt becoming more and more evident on his face

"I can't believe you." Jack said, his voice much more leveled and calm that Alex expected it to be, as he stood up and stalked off towards the bedroom. Alex followed behind him not knowing what else to do.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you'd be home."

Jack spun on his heel, facing Alex now much more livid than he'd been before Alex opened his mouth. "You didn't know I'd be home...fucking hell, Alex. You could have called or something."

"I wasn't thinking, babe -"

"Don't you babe me Alex. Not right now." Jack paused looking away from the elder boy. "You're always on my ass about making sure I'm careful and then you pull shit like this? Why'd you bring him over here anyways?"

"Well he was dropping me off and you said you wouldn't be home until around midnight, I thought he and I could hang out for a little while is all."

"You know what, that's fucking bullshit! And you know better, damn it-"

"I'm sorry, I know I messed up...Just please don't blow up at me."

"Oh yeah. I'm not going to be upset at all when my boyfriend brings his ex over to where I've been living with him for the past month and tries to act like it's no big deal. Oh and he could get the both of us in huge trouble just because of our relationship, so I shouldn't be upset at all, should I?"

"That's not what I mean at all, Jay...please hear me out?"

"No! I don't want to hear you out, Alex!" He shouted, now turning around continuing towards the bedroom. Alex followed behind until Jack crossed the threshold and slammed the door in the teacher's face.

Alex put his hand on the doorknob only to find that Jack locked it. He knocked on the door and leaned against it, sighing heavily. It wasn't like he thought this was no big deal, no, he knew that this was worth being absolutely livid about. He just wanted to fix things as quickly as possible because even the thought of losing Jack was something he couldn't bear, especially not over this. And the younger boy being this upset with him inevitably made him think of losing him too. "Jay, please open the door." A muffled 'no' came from the other side of the door. "Please?"

"Fuck off!"

"Will you talk to me in the morning?"

"Alex go away."

"Fine, I'll be in the living room if you change your mind." Alex said, sighing in defeat. "I love you, Jay."

No response. Well that hurt, but to be fair Alex deserved it. So he sauntered off into the living room, felling very much like a kicked puppy. But of course he deserved all of the negative emotions he felt. It was entirely his fault that Jack was mad at him and entirely his fault that their relationship was at risk. Of course he didn't care at all what consequences he'd have to face if anyone were to tell on him, he only cared about Jack at this point. And if the younger boy were hurt in any way he couldn't help but feel directly responsible.

Alex curled himself up on the couch, pulling the blanket that Jack had previously been using over his shoulders. He may as well get comfortable knowing that it'd be a long night.
_

"Alex, wake up." Jack said, shaking the teacher's shoulder. Alex's eyes fluttered open and he smiled at the sight of Jack. "Why didn't you sleep on the bed in the other room? Were you not thinking about it again?" Jack said a little snarkily, crouching in front of the couch.

"No, I didn't deserve to sleep in a bed." Alex mumbled, noticing the softening of Jack's expression at his words. "I'm a fucking idiot and I don't deserve you at all."

"You're right, you are an idiot. But you deserve whoever you love and who loves you back...and even though I really hate you right now I love you back." Jack paused and looked away from his boyfriend. "Anyways it's time to get ready for school...I'm going to shower."

"Alright...Jay?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm really sorry about last night...I didn't mean to fuck up the way I did."

"I'm not going to lie and tell you it's okay but I know it was a mistake. But you've got to pick up the pieces yourself, Lex."

"I know...but you're not mad at me are you?"

"Not mad? I'm fucking pissed as hell but I'm just hoping that everything turns out alright."

"It will, I swear." Alex promised, reaching out to brush his hand against the younger's face but only meeting air, Jack having moved away.

"I'll see you at school, Lex." Jack said as he walked away, back towards the elder's bedroom.

-

"Morning, class." Alex greeted his first period, trying his absolute best not to stare at Jack. He hadn't seen him at all since the younger boy woke him up in the living room that morning. "So today we're going to go the last few chapters of the book and then you'll be getting the writing part of your final." He said not skipping around the edges. A girl near the back raised her hand, gaining Ale's attention. "Yeah?"

"Aren't we going to talk about the weekend like we always do on Monday's?"

"...Yeah, uh sure. You can go first, whose next?"

Jack raised his hand and smiled. "I'll go."

Fuck, Alex already knew that Jack would be making indirect slurs at him. It was pretty obvious that the younger boy was still livid and sure no one would understand what jives Jack was making but it would still make him feel terrible. And a terrible mood equated to a pretty bad day for teaching too, of course he'd try to brush those feeling off for his students but something like this, well it wasn't that simple.
...

"Jack, can I talk to you?" Alex pleaded, it was now sixth period otherwise known as Jack's free period.

"No." He replied coldly, not even looking up from his text book.

"Well why are you here? You could go anywhere else for study, why here?"

"This is my assigned room and I need somewhere to finish my homework. Now can you please leave me alone?"

"We're gonna have to talk about this sooner or later, Jay."

"Yeah, 'later' because right now I don't want to talk to you at all."

"But we're still to-"

"Shut up. You know I'm not breaking up with you, things just suck right now...so can you please just
leave me alone?"

"I guess...M'sorry though."

"I know, you've said it more than I want to hear it."

"Well I mean it."

"Whatever."

-

Fast forward to Saturday and Jack was still upset with Alex though they'd talked things over countless times since last Sunday. But today had reached a new point due to Oli coming over that night. Alex thought it seemed right to talk things out between the three of them and though Jack agreed he was still more than upset with the older boy. Which made complete sense seeing as Oli was the ultimate cause for the turmoil their relationship had been going through.

"Jack, you've gotta come out of the bathroom eventually." Alex said, leaning against the wall next to the door.

"I'm on the phone."

"With who?"

"None of your business, dick wad."

"Hey, be nice."

"Go away, I'm talking to my mom."

Alex nodded despite Jack being unable to see him. A few moments later and Jack was walking out of the bathroom, dressed and hair freshly done.

"You look cute." Alex complimented the younger in attempt to lighten the mood and maybe even Jack's spirits. But his efforts were futile, only earning a roll of the eyes from his boyfriend.

"When's Oli going to get here?"

"In about fifteen minutes...you okay?"

"Considering that you fucked up big time, I'm doing great. My mom and I are talking again, my friends are perfect as usual, and I'm not failing any classes."

Alex sighed. "Can you try to be a little nicer to me?"

"No, Alex. I can't be a little nicer, we tried that earlier this week and what happened?"

"We just got into a bigger fight...but we did get a few nice moments out of it."

"Yeah and all of those were fake and forced on my part...I'm sorry but I'm still upset with you." Jack ran his fingers through his hair, oblivious to the fact that he was messing up his perfect styling.

"Let's just deal with tonight, okay?"

"Alright...but tomorrow we'll have a cuddle day, yeah? We've gotta at least work on this."

"We'll see."
...

Oli sat on the arm chair that Alex had moved to sit across from the couch where he and Jack were sitting. The younger boy was sitting all the way on the other end of the couch, which felt unusual for Alex but he was just glad he'd even agreed to sit near him.

"So, what's all this about?" Oli asked after they'd sat in an uncomfortable silence for a few moments too long.

"I just wanted to make sure everything was okay...and kind of explain myself since you didn't really give me a chance to do that before." Alex stated, glancing over at Jack who didn't show an ounce of emotion.

"You don't need to explain yourself, mate."

"Yeah, but if you're going to know about me and Jack I feel like you should at least get it and understand it."

"Alright...how'd you guys get together in the first place?"

"Well I thought Jack was cute...something just drew me to him and then we kissed, which is a weird story in itself, and I kind of knew I needed something past that with him."

"Yeah, and what about you, Jack?"

"Hm?" Jack asked, clearly having spaced out. "Oh, I thought Alex was cute and then had a crush on him. It moved kind of fast." He shrugged, refusing to look in Alex's direction.

"I guess that's good enough reason...why didn't you just que it out though? Wait until its legal before sneaking around and being all around bloody stupid."

"That's my fault...I was the one who told Jack I wanted to go through with everything...although now it seems like just waiting would've been a better idea." Alex admitted, ignoring the glare he received from Jack.

Oli shrugged and looked from the two boys sat across from him. "You seem so in love." He joked, laughing lightly at himself.

"Jay is a little upset with me right now is all."

"A little is an understatement." Jack clarified, rolling his eyes at his boyfriend his agitation with the situation becoming more and more obvious.

"Well I don't want to get into your problems...but like I said I won't tell on you two...I trust Lex's judgement and to risk his job and overall way of life for you...he's gotta be in love and see something great about you." Oli informed the teen, looking down and back up at Jack.

"...Thanks... I just wish being with me didn't mean turning his life upside down." Jack sighed and looked over to Alex. "I guess sometimes I forget how much you put on the line for me, Lex."

"S'alright...you have every right to be upset with me right now. I'm sorry for being such an asshole though."

"Yeah and I'm sorry for being such a dick."

"You weren't, you were just mad at me and I get that. You should be mad at me, but I've gotta say I'm not going to argue with you if you're not upset with me anymore."

Jack simply chuckled and scooted himself closer to Alex taking the older boy's hand in his. "Anyways thanks, Oli...I guess for trusting Alex's judgement anyway."

"I don't have any reason not to. He's always been a great guy and while this may be a little weird I guess I get it. I'm almost jealous." The British man smiled, looking almost fondly at the couple across from him. "Anyways...what are you two doing to be careful about all this?"

"Nothing really. I talked to Jack about dating someone to cover things up, I asked Kyle but he's dating someone so that wouldn't line up." Said Alex now smiling at his boyfriend

"I could do it...I mean of you guys are still open for that idea."

"What do you think, Jay?"

"Well we don't really have any other options...I guess it's worth a shot."

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
