Holding On To Keep This Strong

Interrupted

Jack knocked on the door of Zack's house. He was relatively early considering everyone always at least half an hour late to their group events. But of course he left nearly tewenty minutes after Alex had gone not wanting to think about hos boyfriend being out with someone else.
Soon enough Zack opened the door, smiling at his best friend. "Hey there, storm cloud, what's up?"
"Is it that obvious that I'm upset?" He asked as he stepped into the house.
"No, I just know you too well. Besides you were pouting." Zack shrugged. "It was easy to piece things together...but we've gotta keep the Alex talk low tonight. Jaime is coming over too." Zack explained, guiding his friend into the living room.
"You didn't tell me that before. Fucking hell, Zee."
"What? I didn't think it would be an issue."
"Well usually it wouldn't be. But all of my friends have their boyfriends here and I'm an awkward fifth wheel."
"It won't be awkward. Cass and Rian know how to behave themselves and they'll make you comfortable."
"Yeah, and what about you and Jaime? Sorry but you two are still in stupid honeymoon phase. I don't want to be around that, especially not right now."
"Jay, just stay for a little while. I could even cancel with everyone else of you wanted."
"No." Jack said, instantly feeling bad for fussing at Zack. "I'll just go back to Alex's place." Jack was already beginning to turn around before Zack grabbed his wrist.
"Stay...please?"
"Its fine, I promise. I'll just come to one of your photo things next weekend. Besides I'll see you tomorrow during lunch, yeah?"
"I guess...you're not upset are you?"
"I'm not, Zee. I just really don't want to be around other couples right now is all. I still know you care about me and everything, don't worry."
"Well if you get bored don't hesitate to come back. I miss spending time with you outside of school."
"I'll keep it in mind." Jack smiled weakly and leaned forward to wrap his arms around his best friend. "Hey Zee...can you promise me something?" He asked as they broke their embrace.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"If you love someone and someone else you used to love comes in the picture...don't put the person you're with through hell, just let them know if you're gonna stay or not...and if you don't know let them see that you care."
Zack frowned at that we he slowly nodded. "Where'd that come from? Is something up with you and Alex?"
Jack simply shook his head as if to say he wasn't answering that question before turning on his heel to leave. "See you Zee." He called over his shoulder, leaving Zack confused but not questioning it, just letting Jack go to spend the night alone.
-
It was around nine when Jack rolled out of Alex's bed having taken a shower before a nap to clear his head. It probably wasn't the greatest idea spending the night alone but it was better than being around couples all night. He could handle Cassedee and Rian, they'd been together for almost three years after all, he was used to them. But Zack and Jaime were a different story. They were still acting the way he and Alex had a few weeks prior, which in hindsight was a good thing, but it bothered him to be around that. It would only make him more upset about how strange a path he and Alex were going down when they could very well still work healthily.
Jack did his best to push those thoughts aside and go into the kitchen to make himself dinner. He hadn't eaten since lunch earlier that day so to day the least he was starving. Once in the kitchen he headed straight towards the refrigerator, opening it to check inventory. There wasn't much there, leftovers from Friday night, eggs, salad dressing, a few vegetables, and lettuce...he could work with it. Although just getting take out was a much easier option, but he settled on cooking to the best of his abilities since he didn't feel like leaving again. And on top of that he already knew that Alex would be against him ordering delivery, claiming that it would be 'too risky'.
-
A few hours later and Jack was lying on the living room floor flat on his stomach, streaming a movie on Alex's laptop. It was almost ten o'clock and he'd decided to wait up for Alex despite how oddly tired he was. It would just be nice to see Alex's face before going to bed for the night. So he did his best to keep his focus on the computer screen, fighting against his heavy eyelids to stay awake.
-
The opening of the front door pulled Jack out of his sleep, causing him to sit up on the couch. He looked over to the door which revealed Alex...but no something wasn't right.
Someone else was standing behind him...tall, brown hair, tattoos on every visible surface of his skin...then Jack's eyes locked on his and he knew exactly who it was.

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
