Holding On To Keep This Strong

Talk A Little Softer Darling

Zack was tugging on Jack's hand leading him into the small coffee shop chattering away, seeming more excited about seeing Alex read than his own boyfriend. "God you guys are all worse than me." Jack muttered glaring at the wide smile that Cassadee possessed and the more than obvious excitement of everyone else. Of course he was ecstatic to see Alex in his own element that wasn't a classroom but having his friends there with him was a bit of a buzz kill. But he couldn't go alone for Alex's sake and their relationship itself being put in jeopardy.

He sighed and let Zack tug on his hand to lead him to on of the various plush and worn couches.

"I'm so excited!" Zack said for probably the fithiet time that night.

"Me too!" Cass agreed once more. "It's so weird to be hanging out just to see your teachers read poetry. Aren't you excited too Ri?"

Rian nodded staying quiet as he had nearly all night which was completely out of character for him but since Cassadee hadn't said anything about it Jack thought it'd be best to just keep quiet. "Hi everyone, welcome to the very first poetry slam here at Valentine's." a guy about Jack's age said into the mic on the small platform. "I'm Jamie and since it is sadly not an off night for me I'll be introducing each of our readers." Jamie smiled at no one in particular and paused for a moment before speaking again. "So first up is one of the people who helped put this shin-dig together Mr. Alex Gaskarth otherwise known as the teacher that goes by his first name. Come on up Alex." Jack smiled to himself and involuntarily shifted onto the edge of the couch as he watched Alex walk through the small crowd of tables, seats, and people and up to the small platform

"Hey everybody." Alex smiled and looked over to Jack instantly giving the younger butterflies. "So this is something I wrote for a special someone, originally it was a song so forgive the rhyme scheme." He made a small laugh and continued. "Uh...I hope they're here to hear it." He smiled again slightly blushing and looking down at his toes; which was just cute enough to make Jack want to run up and hug him. But of course he refrained and settled on smiling like an idiot until Alex looked at him again which just made him blush. "You're running circles through my head, and I can't believe I haven't said it yet, You're closer to my heart than I thought you'd get. Maybe we're not right and we shouldn't do this tonight, but I just can't let you go I swear I won't let this go. You're all I've dreamed of, sleepy voices are the soundtract of our love, tonight we'll make this right. I swear we're right, You're the one who was in all my daydreams, the one who kept me waiting instead of giving up. Now I'm in love, I have the one I want, No matter what you're in my heart." Alex finished reading rather quickly, a light pink blush crawling up to his cheeks.

Jack smiled to himself taking note of the contrast to the poems of Alex's that the elder had read to him before...this one was different...jovial in a way, lacking all of the rediculously long words that Jack had to look up after. This one was completely different, not even close to being in the same catagory. Not to mention Alex had practically admitted that he was in love with Jack in front of a completely full coffee shop...yet that really didn't matter to Jack because that was just enough to convince him that he was actually in love with Alex too.

"Hey guys, surprise seeing you here." Alex greeted Jack and his friends a warm smile occupying his lips. Jack returned the smile and shifted in his seat really just wishing he could get up and kiss his boyfriend.

"Yeah it is!" Zack laughed in attempt to lighten the thick air and clear the annoying lusty tension forming between his teacher and best friend.

"Your poem was really great Alex."

"Thanks Zack." Alex smiled politely. "Uh, if you'll excuse me I've gotta use the bathroom, I'll see you all on Monday." With that the teacher made his way through the small maze of chairs and tables to the bathroom. Jack could have sworn that Alex gestured for him to follow behind but even if he hadn't that was still his intention.

"I'm gonna go get a coffee." Jack mumbled and stood up from where he was seated next to Zack praying that none of his friends noticed that he wasn't going anywhere near the direction of the counter.
He sauntered off to the bathroom and leaned against the wall across from the door, having to wait on Alex to open the door since it wasn't exactly the classic public bathroom with stalls but more like one you'd find in one's home just lacking a shower.
When Alex finally opened the door Jack was nervous and not entirely sure why he'd followed Alex into the bathroom in the first place but despite that he was pushing Alex back into the bathroom by his shoulders directly after the door had opened.

"Jack! What are you doing?" Alex asked, clearly shocked.

"I-I don't know...I...Did you really mean it?"

"Did I mean what?"

"In your poem...you said you loved me...do you mean it?"

"Of course I meant it, if I didn't I wouldn't have said it now would I?" Alex smiled and put a hand over Jack's that was still resting on his shoulder. "I really do think I've fallen for you...maybe I'm rushing it a little but honestly I haven't felt this way about anyone before Jacky."
Jack smiled and could practically feel himself beaming at that...Alex loved him, Alex loved him, Alex loved him.

"I-I love you too." he said with as much confidence as he could muster, trying his best not to shy away from his boyfriend. Alex simply wrapped his arms around Jack's slim waist at that. They stood there for awhile just savoring the moment, yeah maybe exchanging the very first 'I love you' in a bathroom isn't the most romantic thing but it was perfect nonetheless.

"We should probably get out of here..." Jack suggested, breaking their embrace only to hold onto his teacher's hand. Alex nodded in agreement and looked to the door.

"Lucky us no one can see us coming out together from the lounge...listen, can you meet me at my place later tonight? I really don't want to just let tonight end, y'know?"

Jack nodded and leaned forward to peck Alex's lips. "I'll be there in two hours, I can't spend the night again but I'll be there."

"Great," Alex smiled again, this time wider his face radiating of happiness."I'll see you soon then."
Jack rolled his eyes and lead Alex out of the bathroom, dropping his hand once they were in the hallway.

'Two hours.' he mouthed once they were nearing his friends, Alex simply smiled in return and set off for the group of English teachers in the front.

Tonight was fucking perfect and Jack had a feeling it was only going to get better.

Notes

Sorry this is late and rather short. I have a writing assignment thats worth a thousand points and due Friday so it's all I've been working on since last Tuesday. I kind of threw this together. It was originally supposed to be smut but next time sexy times are happening!

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
