Let the Floods Cross

o n e

Alex craned his neck past all of the parents and scouts, trying to get a good view of the tennis court in front of him. He scowled slightly when he noticed that only one of the two players is at the court right now. The short, tanned blonde girl is sitting on a resting seat, talking to a couch or someone.

His girlfriend is nowhere to be found.

“Yo, Alex, where the hell is Beckett?” His best friend, Jack asked.

He shrugged at his hyperactive friend. At this point, he is starting to worry. This is the championship match for the high school division in Baltimore and if she doesn’t show up on time to play the match, it will be an opportunity missed. Tennis scouts are circulating this area, most of them here to observe and possibly recruit Liezel Beckett. She has stunned many with her impeccable skills on court throughout her years in high school. Tonight is a special night for her. If she wins this match, it could change her life.

“Beckett has to be here somewhere, it’s not like she can find her way home on foot anyways.” Jack noted.

Liezel arrived to the stadium with Alex and Jack while Alex drove. She cannot possibly leave this court out of nerves. Alex noted that his girlfriend isn’t the type to get crazy nervous during tennis matches. She just stresses over her qualifications in order to play the sport. Liezel is so skilled that even she never doubted her ability to play.

“Mr. Gaskarth!” A woman shouted.

Alex turned to the side of the stand, immediately letting his worry sink in when he caught sight of his girlfriend’s tennis coach.

“Coach Wilson, what’s going on? Where’s Liezel?”

The coach shrugged.

“I can’t find Beckett anywhere, do you think she’s having cold feet?”

Alex got up from the stand immediately. He needed to find his girlfriend because she is going to miss the opportunity of a lifetime if he lets her sit this match out. If Liezel’s own coach don’t even know of her whereabouts, the situation at hand is grave.

Ignoring Jack’s calls for him to catch up, Alex got up from the stand and sprinted down the steps. He disregarded remarks for him to stop his craze and ran across the hard court to enter the girl’s locker room. The sound of the crowd died down progressively as he sprinted further and further away from the court.

“Liezel?” Alex called out as he ran into the empty locker room.

The locker area is empty; Alex double-checked several times to make sure. He sighed in exhaustion as he approached the exit of the locker room. For a brief moment, he heard the sound of a suppressed sob and if it weren’t for that sniffle, Alex would have advanced to the lobby of the venue.

He followed the noise to the bathroom area, immediately spotting a figure in the bathroom stall.

“Liezel!”

The figure shuffled slightly as the sniffing continued. Alex’s expression softened as he pulled the bathroom stall open. The sight before him was very hard to digest, especially since it hurts to see her like this.

His beautiful raven-haired girlfriend looked so disheveled, her usual sleek hair ruffled and brown eyes red from the crying. She sat on the cold floor with her back against the stall and her knees against her chest. Without thinking, Alex sat down on the floor and pulled her into his chest.

“Alex, I can’t do this.” She croaked out, physically shaking in her fright.

“Shh.” Alex wrapped an arm around her while he used his free hand to stroke her messy black hair.

“I can’t do it; I’m going to screw up.”

Alex pulled away from her slightly and wiped at her wet face. He leaned over, pecking her lips with his for a brief moment. When he pulled away, he gave her an encouraging smile. A small smile was returned, despite the tears.

“Liezel, you have been playing the best tennis you’ve ever played in your life. Tonight won’t make a difference. You are ready for this match; win or lose, I’m pretty sure someone will recruit you.”

They stayed like this for a few more minutes, before Liezel snapped out of her intense moment of doubt. She stared at her boyfriend thankfully as he got up from their slump on the floor. He held out a hand and helped her up as well. She pulled him into a hug immediately.

“I love you, Alex.” She whispered.

Alex pulled away from the hug.

“Get out there. You’ve got a game to play, girl!”

Liezel felt weight on the surface she is lying on and slowly feeling it creep up on her. Giggling, she slowly opened her eyes—only to be bombarded with an intense kiss on the lips. On instinct, she wrapped both arms around the figure above her and roamed them down the form until the kiss ended.

“Morning, beautiful.”

The black haired woman stared up at the pleasant sight of her boyfriend’s smiling face and his stubbed chin. He leaned in and kissed the tip of her nose before getting away from the bed.

She missed him so much, especially after not seeing him for about a month. The tennis tournaments in the United States had her traveling all over the nation, and unfortunately Alex couldn’t accompany her this time around since his band had just started planning their recording process when she was halfway through her U.S. tour. She decided to take a break from some of the tournaments in the next two weeks since she wanted to spend some time back home with Alex before the U.S. Open.

Liezel literally just got back late last night from Cincinnati and went right to sleep after her shower. Waking up by Alex’s kisses is the best way to start off the day; it reminds her of why she missed home so much.

“Hey, how the hell are you even up earlier than I am?” Liezel asked as she turned to her side to look at the bedside clock.

It is 9:30 in the morning. Alex is not known to be an early riser, similar to his best friend, Jack.

“Well, because I am happy that my girlfriend is finally back from her atrocious tennis touring.” Alex grinned as he gestured for her to get out of bed.

Raising an eyebrow of suspicion at him, she did exactly what she is told. Alex stared at her half-naked body and let his caterpillar eyebrows perk up in interest. After a few moments of awe, Alex reached over to his closet and pulled out one of his crewneck tops for her to wear.

“Thanks, babe.” Liezel slipped on the crewneck sweater.

Alex winked at her as he wrapped an arm around her.

“Follow me, I got breakfast all ready and set up on the dining table. We are going to have a romantic breakfast, then we can proceed to think about what we want to do for the next two weeks before we head off to New York for your grand slam tournament.” Alex guided her out of the bedroom with his arm snaked around her shoulder.

Liezel looked up at the lead singer as her permanent smile widened. Alex rarely cooked, since he is just as lazy as Jack sometimes. It is one of the first times he actually took the initiative to cook for her, and this made her very happy. He must have missed her very much this time around.

It is rare that they get to spend a free week together since both of their touring schedules prevented them from ever meeting. For the pair, it is not easy to maintain this relationship because if Liezel isn’t on one of her outrageous tennis tours, Alex’s band, All Time Low, is touring and playing shows city to city. However, they made it work and have been successful for so many years.

“Just a pointer for future references, but it would be more romantic if you did the whole breakfast in bed thing. Then you would get hot morning sex.” Liezel winked at him seductively as he led her to the dining table.

She smelled the eggs and bacon, mentally telling herself that today is an exception to stray away from her usual athletic diet.

Alex pulled out a chair for her to sit on before taking a seat across from her.

“As tempting as the morning intercourse sound, I shouldn’t spoil you too much; that way you wouldn’t be so eager to leave me again and come back for the special treatment.”

“I’m your girlfriend, I should be getting special treatment all the time.” She leaned forward on the table as she said this.

“Wow, I am so glad you are back to argue with me.” Alex murmured.

Liezel grinned as she snatched a slice of bacon off of his plate. He protested but she ignored him by placing the piece in her mouth.

“Love you too!”
