Deer In The Headlights

Chapter Five

Alex's p.o.v
"You ready for your third question?" I asked, still a bit worried. He nodded slowly and took a deep breath. I thought before asking a question.
"How's your body? Does it still hurt?" I asked, standing up to examine him.
"N-Not really. I just can't feel anything." He sighed. Good, the medicine has worked! I gently hovered my hand over the boy, before adding some weight onto his rips through the blanket. It was stupid to exam him through the blanket, but it's good enough. I felt carefully for any signs of bad injury not trying to fix it self. I only got one hiss from Jack, but that I can't blame him. He looked good and will recover soon.
I bent back up straight and walked back to the chair. I jotted down some information about that his ribs were doing good. I just couldn't of imagined what it felt like to get hit by such a thing. Sure, painful was the answer. Something about the way Jack says 'bus' gets to me though. He says it like he'll get killed if he said the word. That's not a good sign. If he continues to have dreams about that incident, he'll be sent to therapy. I was snapped out my thoughts by Jack asking a question.
"When will I be out of here?" I bit my lip and thought, "about three or so weeks." I said nervously. He groaned at the fact he had to stay here in the boring, uneventful hospital. I moved the brown bit of hair that fell in front of my face. I gave my hair a little ruffle, in attempt to keep it layered. I picked part of my hair and place it over one another.
"I like your hair, Alex," Jack said quietly and smiled. I blushed a tiny bit and brang my hand down from my hair to my laps.
"Mine probably looks like poo." Jack laughed. Well, you can't really style your hair if you're just going to be in a hospital bed, until you can walk. I chucked, "Nah, it's okay." I said honestly. It actually looked quite adorable the way it flopped in front of his face a little. Adorable? No, Alex! Not aloud. I said to myself.
"Are you okay?" He asked, raising his eyebrow a little. I nodded slowly before looking at my clipboard. Maybe some fun questions would be better. But before I could ask, a knock came at the door. I sighed and told Jack I'll be back.
As I opened and stepped out the door, a police women was there smiling.
"Hey," She smiled. I smiled back and didn't answer.
"May I ask Jack some questions about the incident?" She asked. I nodded not saying a word. She gave me a confused look before saying thank you and walking past me into Jack's room. I sighed.

I sat at the reception and waited. Yes encased you didn't know, I find my job a bit boring. I'd rather work as a therapist. It's what I would like actually. I would like to help someone, save someone. It would be amazing. I would feel like I have done something proud and good in my life.
I started filling in some information papers and waited for the police officer to hurry up! I don't know why, but something about Jack is special. He's not like the other patients here. I don't know what it is, but I better get rid of that feeling of him being special. Like I said, 'I'm not aloud to get attached to patients'
When I looked up, I saw the police officer with a sad look on her face. I got up straight away and made my way to her.
"All good?" I finally spoke to her. She gave me a look before nodding slowly, but sadly. I paused for a minute before saying bye and went into Jack's room. When I stepped in and looked up to Jack, I saw him crying. Bless him, this is so difficult for him. I frowned before stepping back out the room.
I went to the coffee machine in the staff room and got a brown cup from the black stand. I pressed some buttons for the hot chocolate, before waiting patiently. It was one of those choice ones where you could pick: Tea, coffee, milkshake, or hot chocolate. I waited until the black-y-brown liquid started pouring out the hot chocolate tap. The smell of the hot chocolate made me smile- it smelt so good! I slowly stirred the hot chocolate and grabbed the cup before walking out.
I walked back into Jack's room and softly called him. He 'mmm'ed and rubbed his tears off before sitting up. He gave me a sad, puzzled look as I slightly smiled making my way to him. I placed the hot chocolate on the coffee table and sat down on the chair. Jack sniffed a little bit, pulling his head back.
"I got you hot chocolate." I smiled genuine. He smiled back, sparks in his eyes.
"Alex, you didn't have too, Thank you!" He said happily. And then his eyebrows knitted together as he frowned.
"How am I going to drink it." He pouted, and nodded to his arms. Oh, I forgot, Damnnit.
"I-uh. Sorry, I forgot again. Um, if you want, I could do what I did earlier with the water." I nervously said. Why? Jack lightened up a little and nodded. I laughed a little.
"We'll have to wait, because it's way too hot." I assured. He just nodded again, looking down his body. I thought a little as hot chocolate filled my nose.
"How about some fun questions!" I said happily. He looked at me plainly, but it soon grew to a grin.
"Well, hearing about how you listen to Green Day and Blink, anymore?" I asked. I was truly into music like that. That's my other dream; to be come a musician. Then, I might be saving people with my lyrics and fans giving me inspiration. But I know how hard it is to get into a label. It's just a big side dream.
"Yes! Um...Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy. Bands like that!" He said happily and interested. My mouth opened into a little 'o' shape as all my favourite bands were mentioned.
"That's so awesome! All my favorite bands!" I said excited. He chuckled and it soon fell back to silence.

"Here." I said, grabbing the hot chocolate and standing up. I carefully reached over with the cup to Jack's face. He nodded and I placed the cup under his lip- like earlier. He drank it slowly and 'mm'ed at the taste. I giggled about how awkward this was, but I guess I could get used to it, 'but not too used' the back of my voice said. I sighed quietly at it.
After Jack finished, it was getting pretty late again. I really didn't want to go, but Jack yawned saying otherwise. I was getting really attached to this strange, amazing boy and I knew I wasn't allowed. I sighed unhappily.
"Goodnight, Jacky." I said. I accidentally let the nickname slip out. Great, now I'm giving him nicknames.
"Night, Lex." He murmured. I rolled my eyes at the great, kind of cute nickname, and turned the light off. I took one glance through the dim, dark light, and looked for a split second at Jack. Then walked out the door.
