Job Interview (Alex POV)

Alex POV

Confidently as always, I strode to my desk. I had decided to talk to my boss about Jack in a few hours. Until then, Jack was supposed to stay with me and help me sort through some things which I, to be honest, didn’t want to sort through. Jack would be happy with having to something to do while I would be able to get some actual work done. I had told him to not act like we were in a relationship since I didn’t want people to think he was here to be my toy for office quickies and such.

So I sat down in my cubicle, introduced Jack to my co-workers and showed him what to do. He was eager to help; he was smiling wider than I had ever seen it. It was adorable and it made me really happy. So I got started on writing an email to the band manager of a band with whom I wanted to make a deal. It was important for me and the company since the band was pulling loads of sales and was ready to give us a lot to promote their tour and new CD. Also, probably many other bands would come to us if we were successful.

After having formulated the email to my satisfaction, I decided to introduce Jack to my boss.

“Jack, you wanna go get to know my boss?”

“Um, sure,” he gulped. He turned a slightly greenish colour and I had to smile the tiniest bit because he was just so cute.

“Don’t worry Jay. It’ll be okay. He’s a very relaxed guy,” I said soothingly. I patted his back and off we went.

I knocked on the door to my boss’ room and entered after he had said “Come on in!” I gave Jack a light push and then we entered.

“Good morning Matt. This is Jack Barakat, Jack this is Mr Flyzik, my boss.”

“You know I don’t like being called ‘boss’, Alex. Hello, I’m Matt Flyzik but you can call me Flyzik or Matt. Please take a seat.”

“Good morning, Mr Flyzik. I’m Jack,” Jack said, his voice trembling only slightly. Now it was my job to say something.

“So, Matt, you said to bring anyone who might be a good addition to the company along. And here we are. What do you think?”

“Hm. I‘d like to know a few things before I make a decision,” Matt said.

“That’s alright,” Jack said, but he was turning greener by the second. He glanced at me and I smiled at him approvingly.

“So, Jack, first, I would like to know how you yourself would describe yourself.”

“Um, I’m Jack Barakat, 22 years old and I live in Baltimore where I was also born,” he said quietly, forcing himself to look at Matt. The latter nodded and gestured for Jack to continue. “I like to cook and I’m willing to help everywhere,” Jack said.

“That sounds good. What about former jobs?” Matt asked. Jack shrunk to a tiny little pile of anxiety.

“I-I worked in a factory,” he said after a bit.

“For how long? Why did you quit?”

“For about half a year. I had some health issues and wasn’t able to work anymore,” he explained, not able to look Matt in the eyes for the whole time he was talking.

“And what did you do before or after that?” Matt asked. I was afraid Jack might throw up or burst into tears any second. But he choked out an answer.

“Nothing.”

“What do you mean nothing? You were unemployed?”

“Yes, and I just, I might as well leave,” Jack stammered. He started to get up but Matt held him back.

“You’re in for the next few weeks,” he said with a smile. Jack froze and I could see a smile spreading over his face.

“Are you sure? I mean, sorry, I beg your pardon,” he stuttered. He looked at Matt expectantly.

“I’m sure, yeah. Your will to help persuaded me and besides, maybe you can give the company’s cook a few tips,” Matt said with a smile and a wink.

“Thank you so much,” Jack said. I could see tears in his eyes and he was grinning widely.

“Nothing to thank me for. We’ll take your personal information later and after a week we’ll see what we’ll do,” Matt explained. Jack got up to shake his hand and then we left the room.

As soon as we were out of sight and out of hearing distance, Jack started jumping up and down and squealing like a child. He hugged me really tightly and a few tears left his eyes.

“I’m so happy, Jack,” I exclaimed. He nodded eagerly and slowly calmed down again. “Now let’s go get some lunch, shouldn’t we?” I proposed.

“Yeah, let’s see if the cook here is as bad as described.”

Mhm to be honest, I haven't been thinking about a sequel too much because for me, this story is finished and over. I could maybe do one single chapter about their future (like an epilogue to the epilogue haha) if people would want me to.
