Jack woke up to his phone going off. Rolling over to the side, he noticed the absence of Alex’s warmth. Sitting up, he saw the note on the pillow. He grabbed his phone from the side table, glancing at the screen. Rian was calling. Jack shrugged it off, making a note to call him back later on, slipping the phone into his sweat pants pockets. He climbed out of the bed, stretching to get the kinks from sleeping out of his body.


In the kitchen, he went straight for the fridge, taking out the orange juice carton and taking a drink straight off the top. He slumped down onto the couch, flipping through the channels, finding nothing decent to watch, and settling on some cooking channel. He wondered what time Alex had left, and what time he’d be back. He pulled his phone, and shot him a quick text.


Where are you? Hurry back.


He slipped the phone back into his pocket, leaning his head against the arm of the couch. He was almost asleep when his phone went off again. Pulling it from his pocket, he saw Rians name again.


“What is it?” He asked, slightly annoyed, when he answered the phone.


“You need to come to the hospital.” Rian said frantically. Jack sat up immediately.


“What? Why? Are you alright?” Jack asked, already rushing over to the door and pulling on his shoes.


“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m fine.” Rian said quickly. There was a pause before he spoke again. “It’s Alex. He...... He was shot!” He finally said.


Jack stopped in his tracks, his chest tightening. The last word echoed through his head over and over. “Shot?” He thought. The phone dropped out of his hand, as he pulled the door open at lightening speed taking off towards the hospital as fast as he could.


He probably reached the hospital in record time. He rushed in, slowing to a walk before he reached the front desk.


“Alex Gaskarth, please?” He said politely, holding in everything. The lady behind the desk turned to the computer, punching in his name.


“Room 45R” She said. Jacks heart dropped even more.


“That-That’s the ICU!” He said, his knees feeling weak. The woman nodded. Jack thanked her, taking off towards the room. He gained his composure outside the door, slowly pushing it open. Isobel was hunched over Alex. His skin was pale, and he looked so fragile in the hospital bed. Jack could feel the tears brimming in his eyes. He stepped into the room, clearing his throat. Isobel looked up, and immediately started crying.


“Oh, Jack.” She croaked, getting up from the chair and enveloping her into a hug.


No one spoke for a while, until Isobel broke away. “I’m going to go home, and check on Peter. Please stay with him, Jack.” Isobel said, rubbing Jacks back. He nodded, watching as she disappeared from the room, the door closing behind her.


Jack slowly turned to Alex. His knees began to go weak, so he dropped into the chair, the sobs racked his body, as he held tightly to Alexs hand.


It wasn’t long after Isobel left, that the nurse walked in. She smiled at Jack, checking the IV.


“Is Alex going to be okay?” Jack asked, looking up expectantly at the young nurse. She nodded, smiling.


“Yes, dear. He’s going to be alright. He should be waking up any time now.” Jack felt as if a weight was lifted on his shoulders. He smiled back up at the nurse.


“Thank you!” He said, beginning to cry again.


“Are you alright?” She asked, placing her hand on his shoulder. Jack nodded.


“Yeah, just happy.” He said. The nurse smiled, and nodded before disappearing out into the hallway.
