Your Lost Boy

Twenty-Three

As promised, once I was settled into my room in recovery and 20 minutes passed and I started getting the feeling back in my legs, Tom and Stella were rolled into my room in their little pink and blue hats, a diaper, and socks that matched their hats. I now was able to notice that Tom was bigger than his twin sister, but not by much. I can see them being tall like Alex when the were older.
Which reminds me of something, I'm not scared anymore. I'm purely happy. I survived giving birth to my beautiful babies. All I wanted now was to get them home and settled in so we can have family and friends over to celebrate bringing our little angels home.
"How are you feeling, Julia," my nurse asked as she rolled in my sleeping twins.
"A little better. The feeling in my legs is returning," I told her.
"That's excellent. We got Stella and Tom to sleep. You should gett some rest so you're ready for your visitors in the morning," she smiled warmly, writing something down on my chart that hung on the end of the bed, before leaving the room. Alex finally popped back after getting off the phone.
"So I called Jack and Jasmin Rian and Cassadee and told them that we had the twins a little earlier than planned. Cass decided to let me sped my early morning sleeping with you and the twins while she made the rest of the calls to everyone," Alex said before he kissed my forehead. He looked just as tired I probably did.
"Well get some sleep, Daddy-o. Starting now we won't be getting much more until the twins are toddlers," I smiled tiredly, taking in the beauty of the two lives he and I created together before finally falling asleep.
"Alex be careful, if you move the car seat too much, you'll wake Stella," I lectured him. Since I was put on a weight limit and I could only lift five pound due to my stitches, I had to hold the front door for Alex carry in our twins.
"I'm new at this, relax a little babe," he whined as he finally got Tom and Stella into the house. We asked Alex's parent to watch his dogs while we got the twins home and settled in.
"This is payback for being constantly on my case during my pregnancy," I teased him.
"Hey, not cool. I was following the doctor's orders," Alex defended himself.
"I'm only messing with you, relax a little," I smiled at the fact he had lost some of his sense of humor when became a dad.
Alex took his time taking Tom and Stella up to the nursery, which looked fantastic, and placed them in their cribs. Stella slept soundly, her baby blue eyes hidden under her sleepy lids, in her pink S onsie that Alex had bought while he was getting me clothes that would fit me. Tom was in his matching blue T onsie, he was awake, but his hazel eyes were closed.
"We did it, Jules, we're parents to two healthy babies," Alex beamed with pride.
"And I lived through it and I get watch them grow up," I added.
"I told you there was nothing to worry about," he bragged.
"Oh shut up, you can't play the Daddy Knows Best card until Stella's old enough to date," I teased.
"Come on, let's go to bed. Tom or Stella will be crying later and we should start sleeping earlier so we can rack up more hours," Alex kissed my left temple before leading me to our bedroom.
A loud scream echoed through the baby monitor, I opened my eyes just a sliver to find it was 1 in the morning. I groaned and started to sit up to go check and see which baby was crying. I was stopped by Alex pressing his lips to mine and pushing down gently on my shoulders.
"Let me handle night duty while you're still in stitches. Try to go back to sleep," Alex got up and went over to the nursery.
'Tom you silly boy, you need a new diaper,' I heard Alex comment at our son's need of a diaper change.
'I can't wait to see you all grown up. I hope you'll help me take care of Mommy while I'm away and to protect Stella from creepy boys,' I heard Alex talking to his son, thinking he's understanding him. That's when Stella whimpered quietly.
'Stella, not you too. You two are going to be trouble makers. I can just see it,' Alex cooed over our twins.
Alex finally came back in, but he held Stella in his arms.
"Why do you have Stella," I asked him.
"She's hungry," he replied.
"Bring her here. You'll have to help me hold her while I feed her," I told him.
The next morning, Jack and Jasmin came over with baby Jack. They wanted to come see us and see how well we did on our first night home.
"How much sleep did you get," Jasmin asked me.
"Maybe a total of four hours," I told her as I sipped my coffee liberally.
"You'll get better at this and they'll get a routine down for you guys to work with. Little Jack here was a hand full for me too," Jasmin reassured me.
"I miss being able to sleep through the night," I groaned as I yawned.
"You'll get used to it," Jasmin reassured me.
"I know I'm going to enjoy being able to hold my babies without Alex's help when I get my stitches out in a couple weeks," I told her, resulting in a giggle and a nice hug from her.
I love you Alex, Tom, and Stella. You three are my everything and I can't think of my life without you in it.
