Long Live Us

Chapter Sixty

*Alex pov*

Alex felt like prom had been looming in the distance for months, and now the day had finally arrived. He wasn't even 100% certain why he was so excited about it, because it wasn't like anyone else even matched his excitement, but he was, so couldn't help the nervous butterflies in his stomach as he pushed his way into his house to get ready before the night truly began. The brunette had just over a few hours before Rian, Jack as Zack would arrive at his, before their slick black limo would pick them up and take them back to school. This was more that enough time even for girls, never mind a guy, but it was just like Alex to start rushing about to get everything just perfect. Soon he was rushing about, making sure he knew where his suit was, where his newly polished shoes were, before hopping into the shower - ensuring he lathered himself thoroughly in his strawberry body gel so every inch of him smelt good. After his shower he went straight to the hair dryer, not willing to allow his hair even the chance to dry naturally, he was determined to make sure every single strand of hair was styled in the correct way and stayed in that place. Whilst he was doing his hair his parents came home, both almost as excited as him as the gushed about their baby boy growing up and leaving school and getting ready to face the real world.
"Guys go away." Alex muttered as his mum tried to smooth out part of his hair, his dad rambling on about the responsibilities he would have once he had finished today.
"Oh come on, we know you're excited!" His mum cooed, planting a kiss in his newly done hair before granting her sons wishes and tottering out of the room, dragging her husband with her claiming they needed to sort downstairs out before everyone else arrived.

A further hour later, ten minutes before Jack was meant to arrive and twenty before Rian and Zack, Alex was finally slipping into his tux. His was a black, slim fit, a skinny black tie to finish the look. He thought he looked great, without being too big headed, thought he looked really grown up and ready to do whatever he wanted. In his hands he picked up the flower that Jack would be wearing, the petals purple - each having one to give the other to wear, which would match their matching lilac pocket squares. This thought broke a grin across the brunettes face, because he was actually going to prom matching with someone. For whatever reason he never thought this would happen, yet, here he was, with his beau living merely metres away. And boy was he perfect.
Almost unexpectedly, Jack was on time, the door bell ring sounding through the house, followed by Alex's mother's cheerful squeal and the banging on the stairs as the brunette bounded down, eager so see his boyfriend.
"Hellooo!" The mothers, and Jack, greeted, the two Barakat's walking into the house and exchanging pleasantries. Alex and his dad waited eagerly in the kitchen as his mum brought them through, and Alex had to stop his mouth dropping to the ground because Jack. His slim figure was perfectly outlines by his own black suit, his skinny tie just about reaching the length of his torso, the jacket hanging loosely from his shoulders. Raven hair swept across his forehead in perfect synchronisation, nothing out of place, even his eyebrows looked better than normal.
"Hey gorgeous." The taller boy greeted the brunette, the pair sharing a quick kiss before less than subtly checking eachother out and sharing a look that just said 'dayum!'.
"Hey." Alex replied, suddenly feeling shy, feeling his cheeks heat up as he ducked behind his fringe and bit his lip.
"I have something for you." Jack mumbled, pressing his cheek into Alex's ducked head, pinning the flower onto the collar of his suit. The brunette could feel his cheeks move as he smiled, making him smile too. It was so cliche, the whole night would be, but he loved it. As he returned the gesture to the taller boy, the camera flash went off, making the pair laugh and shake their heads as their mothers squealed because 'oh my god they are so cute!'.
"They're like teenage girls." Jack commented to Alex, who agreed and laughed along with him, because it was fairly accurate. Once they had lost interest, Jack turned back to Alex, saying he had something else for him, and removed a small box from his back pocket and held it out in his hands.
"Jay, c'monnn." He groaned, internally cursing himself for not guessing that Jack would have done this.
"Just open it." The younger urged, pushing the box into Alex's hand and smiling at him. Sighing, he slowly opened the box, his eyes widening when he saw a ring. A ring. A gold ring, glistening under the kitchen lights.
"Jack are you pro-" Alex began, wary, confused and fairly scared.
"No!" The taller boy reassured, giggling at the worry plastered to Alex's face. "It's a promise ring. It has 'there's room for two six feet under the stars' carved into the inside." He explained, his eyes bright with excitement, watching for his boyfriends reaction.
"Oh my god Jack it's perfect!" Alex gushed, almost tearing up because it was genuinely the best gift ever, and held so much meaning between the two of them.
"Good." With a gentle movement, Jack picked the ring up and slipped onto the fourth finger on Alex's right hand, leaning in and kissing him as he did so. "Not quite an engagement ring, not yet." Jack whispered, the sides of his mouth twitching up in a smile.
"I love you." Alex muttered against the soft lips he adored, grinning as they spread into their own smile.
"I love you too."

Again, bang on time, Rian and Zack arrived with their parents, each wearing their own black suits and looking just as good as ever. After multiple pictures - more than multiple, they were posing for ages between them - and maybe a couple of beers each, the four boys clambered into their hired limo and headed back towards the school they would soon be leaving. The four sat facing each other, glasses in hands topped with bubbling champagne as they travelled. Alex was still the most excited, and most nervous, out of the four, Jack rubbing his thigh every now and then in reassurance. Within half an hour and they were pulling into the school, each sharing the same look of 'oh my god it's prom night'.
Everyone that had already arrived was mulling about in reception, eager as always too see everyone arrive. Alex bit his lip nervously as he looked at the crowd gathered, and made sure he smoothed out his hair. They parked up, and the driver opened the door on Jack's side - the lanky boy gracefully stepping out and holding his hand out for Alex to pull on his own way out. Nerves pushed aside, the brunette followed his boyfriend, taking his hand before waiting for Zack and Rian, before the four made their way down the school's attempt of a red carpet and into the reception, where they were greeted with coo's and compliments, multiple people aww'ing over Alex and Jack's matching outfits. They had their pictures taken of the four of them, knowing they'd go back later for pictures with others, before entering the hall. The room had been done up nicely; balloons and streamers everywhere, banners hanging on the walls, a slideshow of old pictures from school trips on the screen and dj situated in the corner. The lights down low, the usual multi coloured flashing lights being the only means of seeing. Alex thought it looked awesome - or at least better than he expected. They were soon spotted, and therefore swamped, by the girls - who especially coo'ed over their matching outfits, waving their arms about and sharing looks that spoke a thousand work.
"You guys look amazing too!" Alex told them, Jack quickly agreeing with a nod of his head as he snaked his arm around the brunettes waist.
"Oh stop it." Tay said, rolling her eyes and laughing, before they demanded they all had their photos taken.

It was probably about nine o'clock now, and prom was slowly starting to die down, everyone preparing to disappear off to the after parties to get drunk of their faces. But, for now, everyone was still in the hall, dancing and talking, laughing at memories and looking forward to the future.
"Right guys, we're gonna slow it down for a second." The DJ said into the microphone, getting everyone's attention. "Grab the person who means the most of you, and share this dance with them."
Alex immediately grabbed Jack, pulling the taller boy towards him and giggling when he was surprised at the force behind it.
"Slow down, I'm not going anywhere." He whispered, slipping his hands into place on Alex's waist as the first few notes began to play.
"Good." He murmured in reply, letting his body away in time with Jack's, giggling when the taller boy tripped slightly.
"Shut up, I can't dance." He muttered, pouting at Alex who just pecked the pout with his own lips, swiftly removing it.
"I don't care. It's cute." Half way through the song Rian and Cass, Tay, Jenna and Zack joined; the two girls having dragged the muscular boy onto the dance floor in the first place and dancing as a trio, joined the couple and made it so they were dancing together in a circle, fingers all intertwined. Those few moments made Alex so so thankful for every single one of them, and made him think back to his first day when he was an awkward nervous wreck, and thanks too these guys he was the happiest he has ever been. It was now him and Jack against the world; but they had an army of loyal friends behind them. They had a band that could be going places, maybe one day he would be touring the world with his three best friends. And he couldn't wait. Alex couldn't be more happy with his life, he wouldn't change one second of it because that might have meant he wouldn't have been standing there in that moment, and he knew there was no where else he would ever even want to be. It was perfect.
"We're such a bunch of losers." Jenna said, making the group laugh as they continued to away in their oddly shaped circle.
"Long live the reckless!" Tay yelled, throwing her hand that was connected to Zack's in the air with a grin on her face.
"And the brave!" Rian added, throwing his hand with Cass's into the air.
"Long live us." Jack finished, pulling his and Alex's hand into the air and looking down at the brunette with bright eyes and a gleaming smile. The group cheered quietly, before the song ended and they all broke apart once more, preparing to leave the hall. Jack and Alex stayed where they were for another moment, a perfectly still, quiet, emotion filled moment in which they shared a passionate kiss and three words from the taller boy, who's face was filled with love and adoration for the boy who's face currently mirrored his.
"Long live us."
