Long Live Us

Chapter Forty Four

*Alex pov*

Alex walked out of the therapy building with a massive smile on his face. Jack followed him out, looking equally happy and very much embarrassed after Penny had spoken endlessly about things Jack hoped would never be repeated. The late April sun was beating down on the boys as they quickly walked to the local playground, heading straight for the swings. There weren't many people around, which surprised Alex, but he didn't really care. Jack sat on the swing next to him, swinging gently on his foot. He was biting his lip, his cheeks still a shade of embarrassed pink as his eyes darted up when he caught Alex watching him.
"Stop staring at me you creep." He joked, shooting Alex a disgusted look. The brunette rolled his eyes and let out a huff.
"Fine. I'll be off then." Standing up, he sent a jokey scowl in Jack's direction, before turning to walk off.
"No, don't leave me!" The lanky boy whined, grabbing Alex's hand and pulling the older boy onto his lap. Letting out a surprised gasp and a chuckle, he allowed himself to be positioned on Jack's lap, his legs either side of the long ones beneath him, so he was balancing on his thighs.
"If I fall you're gonna die." He whispered, resting his forehead on Jack's and letting their noses bump. The younger boy replied with a "mhmm" before twisting his head slightly and bringing their lips together. As always, Alex melted, enjoying the taste of Jack's mouth and the feelings of their tongues battling. Winding his arms around the younger boys neck, he twisted his fingers in the raven locks he adored. Jack's hands settled themselves on Alex's petite hips, squeezing them slightly and he pulled them closer together. Humming contently, Alex pulled away, tugging on Jack's lips, his eyes darkening with lust.
"Thank you for today." He mumbled, releasing the lip from between his teeth.
"Don't ruin the moment." Jack replied with a roll of his eyes, before nudging his nose against Alex's again, attempting to return to their positions.
"What moment?" The brunette asked innocently, tipping his head the wrong way.
"I hate you." Jack then growled, taking it into his own hands and taking complete control, smashing their lips back together and placing his hands on the small of Alex's back so he couldn't pull away. Grinning, the process began again, two teenage boys on a swing, connected by the lips. Until Jack got hungry, and they headed home, hand in hand.

"Oliverrrr Oliverrrr!" Alex sang happily, dancing awkwardly on the floor while his friends face came into view on the laptop screen.
'Whats up dawg?' The English boy replied, a grin gracing his features as he sat up in his bed.
"I can't believe you're still in bed." Alex stated, raising one of his eyebrows.
'And I can't believe you're not fucking Jack, what's your point?' Oli retorted, laughing when Alex flipped him off, trying to hide the smirk at what had been going on literally half an hour ago. The boys had come back to Alex's after the therapy session, Alex received a fantastic blow job, and then Jack was called home by his mum to help her with something. So the brunette skyped Oli.
"Shut up you dick. How you doing?"
'Yeah not bad, nothing out of the ordinary happening.' He replied with a shrug, yawning widely and rubbing his eyes. After shifting, he asked Alex the same.
"Well. There's something I want to talk to you about." Oli looked worried, his eyebrows slowly lowering as he motioned for the brunette to continue. "I want Jack to meet... Well not meet but... I want Jack to know about Tom." Alex blurted out, not sure how to word it, because he wasn't one hundred percent about how he wanted this plan to be taken into action, he just knew he wanted it to happen.
'Are you sure?' Oli checked, sitting up again. Alex nodded eagerly, never have been more certain of anything before. 'You really love him don't you?' The English boy chuckled, smirking as Alex put his head down and blushed furiously, trying to wipe the grin off of his face.'So what's the plan?'
"I was going to take him to the place Tom when we visited, and maybe FaceTime you at the grave and then like... Yeah?" Alex suggested, biting his lip, his nerves brewing up now. Oli nodded slowly, his brain processing how everything would work.
'Okay. Tell me a time and I'll be there - remember the time difference. I hope he's worth letting him in this far, Lex. I'll kill him if he hurts you.'
"Trust me Oli, he's perfect." Alex responded immediately, his heart warmed by his friends' concern. Tomorrow, it seemed, would be a big day.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex woke up early, his stomach churning. How would Jack react? The whole thing could go so so wrong. There was a high chance Alex would end up in tears. Damn it what was he doing? The brunette hopped into the shower, letting the warm water relax his tense muscles as he pushed imaginary scenarios out of his mind. Yes, it could go wrong, but could also go really well. That's what he was banking on. And praying for. Oli and Alex had agreed on the time; after a lot of persuasion to make the English boy get up early. Two pm for the couple was eight am for Oli, so they'd gone with that. Alex finished his shower and returned to his room, glancing at his clock. It was still only half eight, so he really did have hours. He sorted through his wardrobe to find something suitable to wear. After fishing out a pair of dark grey jeans, he grabbed the blue, white and black checkered shirt that Tom had brought him years ago and somehow it still fitted. Alex spent over an hour on his appearance, knowing he would look like shit later. Deciding he looked as good as he ever would, he walked downstairs and poured himself a cup of tea, letting the boiling liquid soothe his body as it so often did.
After killing the hours watching crappy tv shows and strumming aimlessly on his guitar, it rolled around to one pm, so the brunette decided to pick Jack up. Taking a deep breath he stood up and walked to the door, grabbing his keys and checking he had his phone, before heading over to get his boyfriend.
Jack opened the door in an instant, his usual small gracing his features, but he instantly realised that whatever was happening wasn't what he was expecting, and just followed Alex's lead. The drive took just under an hour, the route seemingly etched in the brunettes mind even though he had only visited the place twice. Every corner and every road name was recognised, he didn't feel like he was driving through unknown streets. Jack was sat in silence, his eyes glancing over Alex every now and then, trying to read him and work out where they were going. Alex almost felt bad for not telling him, but he just didn't know how. He pulled up in the small car parking area, only two other cars there, before taking a deep breath and getting out. He'd brought Jack to where the two brothers found when they visited America years ago. It was a secluded opening, surrounded by trees, at the top of a steep hill that didn't really have a path leading up anywhere. Alex and Tom brought a football and kicked it about for a while until the sun set, and the older boy sat and listened to Alex as he pointed out all the constellations he knew. And now, it hadn't changed one bit. The only thing that had changed was the person accompanying Alex. Jack seemed to sense that this place was important, as he gently linked their fingers as they walked into the middle of the clearing and sat down on the soft grass. The silence and seconds ticked past, Alex trying to fathom his thoughts and Jack trying to work out what was going on. They sat still, gazes locked on nothing, both consumed in those thoughts, until Alex's phone buzzed, and Oli's name popped up.
"There's someone I want you too meet, Jack." Alex announced as he accepted the face time.
"Lex I've already 'met' Oli?" The younger boy replied, tipping his head slightly, confusion still written across his face.
"It's not Oli." The phone connected and revealed the English boy, who looked tired despite having slept hours, a shy, slightly wary, smile on his face.
'Ready?' Oli asked, nodding when Alex agreed, smiling despite the whirling pool of panic swarming through his body. Jack also greeted Oli, whilst Alex composed himself and worked out what he was going to say. After giving his friend the signal, he went for it.
"When I was 14, my older brother Tom died. He was my best friend, literally the only person I felt safe around. We would tell each other everything - he was the first person that I admitted I was gay too. He was my rock through thick and thin, guiding me through all the shit that happens in school at that age. When we came to America we found this place, hence we're here. Tom always told me to be your own person, follow your heart and screw what everyone else says or thinks. When I came out to him, he instantly brought up marriage, and how he would have to be best man, and how he couldn't wait to start meeting all my boyfriends I was then yet to have. So, since you're my first serious boyfriend, I want you to meet him." Jack lay his hand gently over Alex's, a small smile on his lips as the brunette then placed the phone between them. Oli had set it up so they could see the gravestone, the words 'Thomas Gaskarth, a caring son, a loving brother, a perfect friend' carved into the grey stone. Alex took another shaky breath, it had been a while since he'd done this - too long in fact - before he started talking.
"Hey Tom! Sorry I haven't been around much, it's been a hectic few months. I hope all is well where you are, it's pretty good down here. Did you see Mum get that promotion she's been working for? She was so happy! I'm still no closer on getting us a dog, doesn't look likes it's gonna happen before I move out. Which kinda sucks, doesn't it? Anyway, I brought someone to, er, meet you... Like I promised I would. I know you'd love him, you two would get on so well, and he makes me so happy. I can imagine you trying to play the scary older brother roll, then realise how goofy he is and just give in."
Alex chuckled, Jack pouting slightly at the offence before brushing a stray tear off of the elders cheek.
"Well, hi Tom! I'm Jack, and it's an absolute pleasure to meet you. Alex talks about you all the time, and I reckon we would get on. Well, I hope so. Even if we didn't you couldn't do anything because your little brother has my whole heart in his hands and I'm not letting him go, okay? I promise with all that I have that I will look after him and take care of him - even though he takes much better care of me. He means the world to me, so I really hope you approve, because I don't know what I would do if you didn't." Alex choked back the sob he was holding in before flinging himself into Jack, and curling up on his lap.
"Thank you." He whispered, not trusting his shaking voice. Nobody had ever said anything like that about him, and he could only wish and pray that Jack was telling the truth.
"You're welcome. Thank you for letting me meet him." Jack murmured back, planting a soft kiss on the top of the elders head. This was meant to be, Alex could just feel it, he wasn't sure if he was ready for the 'L' word, but he was sure as hell getting close. All he knew, is that he never ever wanted Jack to leave.
