Long Live Us

Chapter Twenty

*Alex pov*

"Alex! Alex! Alex wake up it's Christmas Eve!" Jack's childish, playful yelling woke Alex up. Sure enough, it was the day before Christmas, and the taller boy was jumping around the room in excitement. Groaning, Alex rolled over to look at Jack. He had expected the boy to be dressed and ready by the way he was acting, however he was wrong. The dark haired boy was standing by the bed, in just in boxers, so he had evidently only just got up. Alex dragged his eyes away from his long, hairy legs and his toned torso to look at his face.
“Why are you wearing glasses?” He asked, confused. He had never worn them before, although Alex wished he had done because he looked adorable. The outline made his dark eyes stand out, and his fringe hung over the frame, making him very easy on the eye.
“Because I’ve got shitty eye sight.” He replied with a grin, his excitement evident in his eyes. Alex wondered why he had never mentioned the fact he needed glasses, but at the same time thought that it was quite a nice surprises.
“Uhhh, what time is it?” The brunette asked from the bed, laying his head back onto the soft pillow, wanting to fall back to sleep.
“Midday.” Jack replied, making Alex groan.
“Why the hell are you awake?” he asked, seeing as Jack normally slept all day when he could. On top of that, the boys had spent yesterday at Winter Wonderland – which was basically a large Christmas themed fair with rides and what not, and they had eaten out at Taco Bell, another thing that Jack was overly attached to and in love with. Jack replied with a shrug, his childish grin not leaving his face.
“Go get food.” Alex mumbled, tugging the duvet up closer to his face.
“ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST!” Jack shouted, throwing his arms up in the air and his eyes lighting up. Alex laughed sleepily. He could definitely get used to waking up to this boy, however annoying he could get. Alex listened to his happy footsteps sound as he bounded down the stairs and into the kitchen, the freezer scraping loudly as he opened it. Taking a deep breath, Alex got up, not bothering to put a shirt on. When he got to the kitchen, Jack was dishing up two bowls of vanilla ice cream, with a tub of sprinkles and chocolate sauce next to them. The brunette wandered over to the kettle to make himself tea, before addressing Jack.
“Have you seen my phone?” He asked, realising he had no idea where it was.
“Yeah, on the side. Vic called.” He replied, nodding to the other side of the fridge. Picking up his phone, Alex read the notifications on the screen. Three missed calls from Vic, and a few texts telling him to pick up. They had spoken briefly the day after the party, but not properly, so the two definitely needed to talk. Slipping his phone into his pocket, Alex walked over to Jack and leaned into his side, enjoying the feeling of their skin touching. He looked up and saw Jack smile shyly, a blush creeping onto his cheeks and he poured sprinkles onto each portion of ice cream.
“Looks good, Jay.” Alex commented, his hunger more obvious now that good looking food was in front of him. Admittedly, he thought it was weird that they were eating ice cream for breakfast, but who cares.
“So do you.” Jack replied with a wink, pushing his lips onto the top of Alex’s hair, making him giggle quietly. Nothing made him happier than the small moments like this with the taller boy. He was going through their time together, collecting the memories and storing them in his mind, so he could relive them if he ever wanted to.

‘Oh finally thank you for picking up!’ Vic said down the phone, his voice tinted with annoyance, probably because he had spent a few days trying to contact Alex with no luck.
“Hello to you too. Yes I’m good thanks for asking, how are you?” Alex retorted playfully, leaving the living room so Jack could still watch the movie that was on. He wandered into the kitchen and sat down at the table, staring out the window, watching the rain gently fall from the dark clouds above.
‘Whatever. Are we cool?’ Vic asked, and Alex chuckled at how worried he was.
“Yes obviously. I don’t care you got with someone.”
‘Yeah but still. How’s Jack then? What you guys doing tomorrow?’ The Mexican asked, trying to change the conversation.
“Yeah all is good. I don’t know actually. I think we’re just staying in.” Alex answered, genuinely having no idea. He wondered whether Jack had a cute, romantic surprised in wait, but he doubted it, so didn’t have a clue.
‘You’ll enjoy it anyway, I know you will.’ Vic said, and Alex could imagine him winking at him, multiple innuendos buzzing around in his head.
“Whatever, loser.” The two began to talk about the few days where they hadn’t spoke, as well as about the party, and about Jack – as he was always a topic of conversation. After about an hour, Jack wandered into the kitchen, his socks brushing against the floor, making Alex turn around at the sound. The tall boy had put on a Glamour Kills shirt and black jeans since breakfast, but left his hair messy and glasses on. Now, he was stood in the door, pouting slightly and making grabby hands towards Alex. The brunette thought he looked absolutely adorable, and there was no way he was turning down this silent offer.
“Look Vic I gotta go, talk to you later bud.” Alex said, smiling when Jack grinned.
‘Be good. Talk to ya soon.’ And the line went dead, so Alex put his phone back in his pocket before standing up and walking into the other room with Jack, who immediately dragged him onto his lap. Blushing, Alex snuggled into his chest, listening to his heart beat. Closing his eyes, he felt content, happy, warm and safe - all because of this one boy. It was Christmas tomorrow, and he had a feeling it was going to be a good one.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Its Christmaaaassss!' Was the first thought that ran through Alex's head when he woke up. It still looked dark outside, and Jack was still sound asleep, with his arm wrapped around Alex's waist. Rolling over, he came face to face with the dark haired boy, and couldn't stop the smile that spread across his face. He looked so adorable in his peaceful slumber. After a moment or two of admiring Jack, the excitement inside of Alex Welles up and he couldn't contain himself any longer.
"JACK!" He yelled, leaping onto the boy to wake up. He woke up with a start, his eyes suddenly open and he sat up quickly, looking around in worry, before looking back at Alex's gleeful face before clocking on.
"Morning Lex, Merry Christmas." He mumbled sleepily, rubbing his eyes with one hand.
"Come oooon let's get up!" Alex whined, pushing on Jack's chest in an attempt to get him awake quicker. The taller boy just groaned again, and tried to push Alex off.
"How are you so lively? You haven't even had your tea yet!" He moaned, reaching over to the bedside table and slipping his glasses on. Alex inwardly groaned at how cute he was, fighting every inch of his body which was screaming to kiss him. It was getting very hard to control.
"Come on Jaaack it's Christmas!" The dark haired boy nodded slowly, so Alex squealed and leaped off the bed, throwing on his Blink shirt that was on the chair.
"Jesus Christ this is the time we get up for school." Jack grumbled quietly, rummaging around his cupboard for clothes.
"Scrooge." The brunette grumbled back, narrowing his eyes at the taller boy who just shook his head. Jack pulled an overly long top on, which reached half way down his thighs. When he turned around, Alex burst into fits of laughter. The top was black, and had a large glittery snowman in the middle, made out of sequins.
"Don't laugh, this is my Christmas dress!" Jack said pretending to be offended, before prancing over to Alex.
"Dress?"
"Yeah Jenna brought it for me ages ago. It used to be nearly by my ankles."
"It's a girl dress? That explains a lot." The shorter boy chuckled, not quite believing Jack was willingly, off his own accord wearing a girl's piece of clothing. Then again, he reckoned the boy probably had a secret love for dressing up as a girl and would jump at any opportunity to do so.
"You're a weirdo." Alex said, winking up at Jack.
"I'm your weirdo." He replied, wrapping his arms around Alex's waist. Happily agreeing, Alex put his arms around the taller boy's neck and they pulled each other closer. Breathing in the smell that hung to Jack, one he was getting a lot more used too after spending so much time in his house, he wondered how different his life would be if he was still living in Essex. He knew for certain he wouldn't be as happy as he was now. Today he would have still been asleep, not wanting to wake up, not wanting to spend another full day watching his parents cry as they remembered their lost son. It was always worse at Christmas. Taking a deep breath, Alex pulled away from Jack to stop himself crying. It was Christmas, and he was ecstatic for no reason - although he inwardly admitted it was probably because he was with Jack.
"Get your peachy arse downstairs." The taller boy mumbled into Alex's ear, putting on a seductive voice, making the boy go crazy. Jack had no idea what he was putting Alex through by making him wait to do anything. He wanted nothing more than a hot make out session. That was all. The boys walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, where they made tea, coffee and pancakes before making their way into the living room.
"Presentssss!" Alex whined as he put his mug down and Jack sat down.
"Nope. After we've eaten." The taller boy said, smiling cheekily up at Alex, before patting the spot on the couch next to him.
"Jaaaaaaack!" He whined, swaying slightly and putting on his best puppy dog eyes.
"Nope." He replied shortly, emphasising the 'p' and keeping his eyes focused on the tv where he was pressing play on Elf. Alex made a 'hmph' noise and crossed his arms, before sitting on the furthest end away from Jack. Secretly, he wanted the younger boy to cave and start the cuddling or something. What Alex wanted was his attention, really, as a result of his emotional frustration building up over the fast few weeks.
Luckily at this moment, Jack stretched out and lay his head on Alex's lap, making the older boy grin.
'Success!' He told himself, placing his arms around Jack before turning his attention to the movie.

"I can't believe you're this good a cook and you didn't even know how to use the dishwasher!" Alex commented, stretching out slightly and rubbing his full stomach. Both boys were dressed quite smartly, in shirts and jeans, and has just finished their massive Christmas dinner that Jack had cooked single handedly.
"Shhhh." He replied to the comment, putting one of his fingers over his lips. Rolling his eyes, Alex eyed the Christmas tree for the hundredth time in a silent hint that Jack had caught on to, and denied every time. This time, however, he finally let him.
"Let's get started!" The dark haired boy said, the excitement now making his own eyes glow. Alex clapped happily and leaped over to the tree, sitting crossed legged close to the pile of presents underneath. The boys had put both their presents that had been sent together under Jack’s tree, plus the presents from each other. Jack quickly followed Alex’s actions, and sat down opposite the older boy, excitement glowing in both pairs of eyes.
“You go first sweetie.” Jack said happily, grinning widely at Alex. Smiling back at the taller boy, he leaped forward and picked up his first present, from his parents. They’d agreed to go in the order of parents, family, friends and then each others. Alex was excited and nervous for what was wrapped up with Jack’s scribbly hand writing on the little cards. Tearing the paper away eagerly, he grinned at what was inside.
“Oh my god!” he proclaimed, holding up the box, containing an old fashioned Polaroid camera. He’d been wanting one of these for ages, and his parents seemed to have finally found one. “Come here!” he ordered Jack while he opened the box and took the camera out. The taller boy shuffled around until he was next to Alex, resting their bodies together. Smiling at the contact, Alex lifted the camera and faced it towards them, pressing the shutter when he felt Jack’s cheeks move as he grinned. The flash lit up the room, and a few moments later the picture printed out. Shaking it, the older boy smiled when the picture came through.
‘This is a keeper.’ He told himself, showing the picture to Jack. He already knew he wanted to create an album of pictures of them two together, so he would always have a recollection of every moment they spent together.
“Wow we’re hot.” Jack said with a wink, handing the picture back to Alex who giggled, before telling Jack it was his turn. The younger boy shuffled back round and picked up a box, unwrapping it to find the pair of trainers he’d been drooling over for weeks. They alternated with presents until the pile was down to what they got from each other; both absolutely chuffed with what they had received. Oli had sent Alex some of his t-shirt designs – and he loved all of them – and had officially been named the first ‘Drop Dead’ customer, and he was ecstatic that his friend was achieving what he wanted too. Looking over the few presents left under the tree, Alex tried to guess what was hidden by the red, snowman paper. Jack was doing exactly the same with his small pile of presents, and the excitement in the air was building.
“Okay, open that one first, then that one, then that one, and open this one last.” Jack said, pointing to each one as he said which order. Nodding, Alex picked up the one he had pointed out first, opening it and discovering a Glamour Kills t-shirt. The second was a photo album, with a black and white pattern on the front, and in calligraphy on the front, Jack had written out “We Can Live Like Jack And Alex If We Want.” Alex was in love with it already, and couldn’t wait to start filling it up. He reached up to the table and grabbed the photo they took earlier and gently slipped it into the first page. Smiling, he hugged Jack and thanked him, before putting the album on the table and carrying on. The third present was a pair of beanies, and the final one was an envelope. Upon opening the envelope, he leaped onto Jack, clutching the envelope.
“Do you like it?” The dark haired boy chuckled, holding Alex.
“WE’RE GOING TO MEET GREEN DAY!” He yelled back, flapping the two Meet And Greet tickets in his face. Jack laughed, grinning as well.
“That has been hard to keep a secret, I must admit!” He said, ruffling Alex’s hair, making them both giggle as they became giddy with excitement. After a minute of two of mad “fan-boying”, Alex sat back down and Jack opened his presents – a set of Blink 182 guitar picks, a new phone case, a jokey box of Dishwasher Tablets (which Jack was not amused by) and a personalised, signed copy of Enema Of The State. Both boys were now sat, grinning widely at each other, overly happy with how the day had gone. After talking for a few minutes about each gift and various other people, Alex noticed a glint of nervousness came into Jack’s eyes but he decided not to bring it up. They agreed to spend the rest of the day watching movies and eating the crap load of chocolate they had received, before calling parents and friends and what not. Alex stood up to stretch, Jack following suit.
“Ahhh this has been a good Christmas.” He commented, smiling at Jack, and sneaking a glance at his stomach when the lanky boy’s shirt rode up slightly. Inwardly he groaned at what he wanted to do to the boy, his self-control depleting with each moment he spent with him. Being his best friend was amazing, and he couldn’t ask for a better person to be in his life, but there would always be a bit of Alex wanted more – even if Jack did say that nothing was ever going to happen between them. However, the brunette had not lost hope, and knew that he would literally wait until his dying day to see if anything would ever happen.
“I have one more present for you.” Jack announced, snapping Alex from his day dream.
“Noo, we agreed on four each!” he whined, not wanting to feel in debt to him.
‘Trust Jack to break the agreement!’ he thought, crossing his arms and pouting. The pout fell from his face when Jack stepped forward slightly, a shy smile playing on his lips.
“No it didn’t cost anything.” He mumbled, looking directly into Alex’s eyes. Letting himself get lost in the dark pools of brown, butterflies erupted in the brunettes stomach at the tingling on his skin where their fingers were touching. The boy was so close that Alex could smell his aftershave on his neck, and could easily pick out every tiny detail of his face.
“Don’t freak out like I did, okay?” he whispered, and before Alex could reply his day just got fifty billion times better. The distance between them closed, and Jack slowly leaned in, pressing their lips together. Electricity buzzed around the shorter boy’s body, the source being his lips. His mind was completely back, numb with happiness, confusion, surprise and lust, with only one thought floating around.
‘Jack fucking Barakat is finally kissing me!’
