Chapter Six

Now, I was going to have to be careful with this.

''When do you want to go and pick up your stuff?'' Alex asked, taking a sip of his coffee.

I rubbed my head and groaned, ''Um,'' I thought about the time: 1:30. Dad would be at work right now, Jessica too. My little brother would be at school. Shit, do I have a key?

''Joce?'' Alex asked, raising an eyebrow.

''Uh, well, now I guess,'' I sighed. Do I really want to throw away my family and friends just to go on tour with my heroes?

Yes, Joce. Yes you do. They don't want you, they think you're a piece of shit and if they could, they'd get rid of you. This is your chance to have fun, even if that means losing connection with them.

''Alright, want me to take you?'' Jack offered. He looked tired as shit, but he still recovered well from how hammered he was last night.

''That would help,'' I nodded.

''Kay, let's go,'' He stood up, walking over to the door of the bus.

I got up and turned towards Alex, ''Alex are you coming?'' I asked.

''Nah, sorry. I gotta call my girlfriend and take care of some stuff.''

Girlfriend? Oh shit, I forgot.

That stung a little more than it should have. I've always had the hots for Alex, so you can understand why I'm a little disappointed in myself for not remembering about Lisa. From what I've heard about her, she's a nice girl. But I've also heard that she cheated on Alex once, that one might not be true.

''Jocelyn, let's go?'' Jack called from the front of the bus.

''Yeah, okay,'' I said, me and Alex still looking at each other suspiciously. ''See ya later, guys,'' I waved and made my way towards Jack.

''Do your parents know that you'll be there?'' Jack asked, unlocking the keys to his car.

''Uh.. Yeah, I texted my dad and told him, but he's at work.'' I lied, ''Didn't know you had a car?''

''I don't, I borrowed it from a friend,'' Jack explained, ''Anyway, your parents must be pretty laid back if they're just gonna let their seventeen year-old daughter go on tour,'' Jack laughed.

''I don't really know any other parents who have had to make that decision in life,'' I laughed. ''Besides, I'm old enough to make my own decisions now.''

''Aren't you supposed to say that when you're eighteen?'' Jack scoffed.

''Pft, people who are seventeen can say it too!'' I said, causing Jack to laugh harder.

''Try being twenty-five,'' Jack sighed. ''Well, at least I can do more stuff than you, that's one of the benefits of not being seventeen.'' He teased.

''Shut up Jack!'' I laughed. ''You're old!''

''Hey! twenty-five isn't that bad!'' He nudged me playfully, whilst keeping his eye on the road. ''So, where exactly is your house?''

-

''Okay, here it is,'' I announced, unbuckling my belt and making my way out of the car.

''Do you want me to come help you?'' Jack called from inside the car.

''No it's fine, I'll just get some stuff packed and I'll be out in a sec.'' Jack nodded, switching on some music, which sounded like Blink-182, and began banging his head to it.

I noticed there was no car in the driveway.
Great, nobody's in, I thought.

I didn't bring my spare key to the concert because I was supposed to be staying over at Sarah's, so I lifted the plant pot next to the front door, but no key was there. What the hell? I grabbed the door handle and pushed the door open.

Why is it open? Someone's in. This was a bad idea.

''Joce?'' A voice questions, ''Is that you?'' But this isn't my Dad or Jess or even my little brother. This voice was Sarah's. The girl strolls out of our kitchen and eyes me.

''You look terrible,'' She laughs, sniffing up.

''Hangover,'' I spat, still pretty pissed off at her for not joining me at that party last night.

''I'm sorry I didn't come with you,'' Her eyes were all puffy and she looked as if she'd been crying all night.

''Why are you crying? I should be the one apologizing, I left you for Alex. I shouldn't have done that, it was a bitch move,'' I shook my head.

''Yeah, it was.'' She laughed. ''Your parents are going mental-''

''Parent.'' I corrected her, making it clear that Jess was not my mother.

''Anyway,'' She raised her eyebrow, ''Your dad's gone crazy, I'm not sure if he really misses you or just wants to get a hold of you so he can beat the fuck out of you for not coming home,'' She shrugged.

''That sounds pleasant,'' I widened my eyes before grinning. ''Well, you can leave now. Now you know I'm okay, I can begin packing.''

''Packing? What?'' Sarah asked. Saying she looked confused would be an understatement. Angry and confused because she knew I'd be going somewhere with ATL would be the correct way to describe the expression on her face right now.

My silence angered her more, ''No, you're not going anywhere with them, Joce! No! I don't care who they are, you're not going!''

I just blanked her shouting and ran up the stairs and towards my bedroom. I soon heard her thumping up the stairs after me. But, by then, I'd already got out my bag and was stuffing as many clothes and essentials I needed, before my dad got back.

''Joce,'' I ignored her and continued to pack, ''Joce! Look at me for God's sake!'' I looked up at her, a scowl knitted across my face. ''You're not thinking straight,'' she put her hand on her face. ''I know you want to escape and have fun and live life now you're seventeen, but you can't be so cocky. I'm going to help you get through this and you don't have to suffer with your dad anymore, I promise I'll help you, please just stay.''

''I want to go with the guys though,'' I sighed, putting a few pairs of socks in my bag, ''Not because I want to escape, but because it will be fucking hilarious and I'll enjoy myself better than I would here.''

''Well, thanks,'' Sarah grunted.

''Sarah, I'll call you everyday, you just have to do me one thing-''

''No! Fuck that! You're not going!''

''Sarah, please. It will be the most fun I've had in a while, so will you do me a favour?'' I pleaded, frowning at her disagreement.

''What?'' She almost spat.

''I want you to keep it a secret, don't tell them where I am.''

''Are you high? How am I supposed to do that? They're going to want to know where you are!''

''I want you to pretend I'm missing.''
