I Need Therapy -Jack Barakat-

*Flashback*
"Mommy, where are you?" I spoke quietly as I creeped down the stairs.
I had heard a crash and it was 10:00 pm. I'm 6, it was late for me! All the lights were off so it was scary, I knew Daddy was gone because he was in Nevada for his friends' birthday... Was someone in the house? I looked to the side of the stairway and saw I had left my bat there. I grabbed my small bat and reached the end of the stairs. I saw the living room light on so I assumed she was in there. Before I could enter the room I heard whispering.
"Please, Jake, be quiet, Makenzi is asleep"
Jake... that was my mommy's ex-husband. Mommy re-married and found my new Daddy
"Marissa, Maki is my kid, too. I have the right to see her!" His voice got a little bit louder.
"Jake, the judge said you couldn't come near her or this house. You hit her, our little girl! You promised me you would be a good dad, you were until you cheated on me... You didn't know what to do, so you hit her while I was gone!"
I quietly set my bat down and pretended to be tired.
"Mommy?" I walked into the room and rubbed my eyes.
"Maki, what are you doing up so late?" I saw her eyes move to mine and she saw what I was trying to do.
"I heard a noise and got scared, but then I thought you just dropped a glass cup. I wanted to make sure you were okay" I yawned
I saw my real dad and my eyes got wide.
"Is Jake visiting?" Mommy told me that Jake was just an old fiend who had a bad past, but through curiosity I learned that he was my real dad.
"Uhm, yes sweetie, we were just talking. Why don't you go upstairs and say goodnight to daddy" She suggested and she knew that she really wanted help.
"Okay mommy, goodnight, Jake" I started to walk out slowly
I heard Jake behind me
"Goodnight, Makenzi"
Without even looking I could tell that he was clenching his fists. I grabbed my bat and ran upstairs into mommy's room, grabbing the phone from the desk. I typed the three little numbers that I had memorized. 911.
"Hello, 911, what is your emergency?"
"Hello? Uhm, my name is Makenzi Reynolds and my dad is back at my house even though the judge guy said he couldn't be near the house"
I played with the phone cord while I heard typing in the background.
"Okay, Mackenzi Reynolds, you're six years old?"
"Yes, I am"
"And what's your address?"
1234 Jensen Avenue (fake obviously)
"Okay, Makenzi, I'm going to have you stay on the phone with me while the cops are going to your house, okay?"
"Okay, I guess"
"Now, it says here that your mom re-married to someone named, Samuel Reynolds. Is that correct?"
"Yes , it is"
I could here the faint sounds of the sirens creep up to the house.
"Now, where would he be?"
"He's in Nevada celebrating his friends' birthday. We were going to pick him up on Thursday"
The sirens got even louder
"DID THAT LITTLE SWINE CALL THE COPS?" I heard Jake yell from downstairs.
"Please, help me, he's coming for me!" I started to whisper
"Honey, the police will be there soon, I promise"
And just like that, I heard the cops break into the house.
"Freeze, Mr. Greymos!" I saw a gun and Jake at the top of the stairs... I would either see him get shot, or taken away. He glared at me and put his hands up.
"You little rat!"
I saw the cop put him in handcuffs and take him away, but what I didn't want to see was mommy going with him.
"mommy, why are you leaving?"
"Sweetie, I have to file a report, and I'm going to visit daddy and tell him we're okay. Is it okay if you stay at Rian's house tonight?"
My little eyes lit up. Rian was my best friend we always hung out.
"Oh, can I?" I tugged on my moms sweater
"Well, we can go over and ask"
Before my mom could even grab her purse I was tugging her out the door.
"Hurry mommy, Rian might be asleep!"
"Oh, I doubt he is. He has that new video game..."
Mommy knew how much I wanted the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. But we just couldn't afford it. I knocked softly on the door and heard footstep come towards the door.
"Oh, Makenzi, Lilian, please come in!" Kathi greeted us.
"Actually, Kathi, I was wondering if you could watch Makenzi for a few days. Jake came back and now I have to file a report. I'm also going to visit Sam for a few days"
"Oh, of course I'll watch her! Have a safe trip Lilian. Makenzi, Rian is up in his room"
I nodded and ran inside the house going up the stairs and downt he right hallway.
"Yes! I finally got the Kokiri Sword!" I heard Rian start jumping on his bed
"Rian!" I shouted form outside his door.
"Max?" I heard him stop and come towards the door
"Max!" He opened it and engulfed me in a hug.
"Guess what?" I said
"I'm staying here for a few days while mommy visits daddy!"
"Yay!"

Ages- Both 14.
"Max, I need to talk to you" My mom came into my room with a sad look on her face
"Mom, what's wrong?" We sat down on my bed.
"Well, I got a job offer, and as you know I took it. But, we have to move"
I just smiled at her, no worries.
"No worries mom, we won't be that far away right? I could still visit Rian on weekends!"
I don't know why she looked so sad, still. I stood up to grab my phone and call Rian but my mom pulled me back down.
"No, sweetie... it's in Oregon"
My face drain of all color and my eyes were big.
"Oregon?" I paused "You mean we're going to move all the way to the west coast? We're not staying in the east coast?"
My mom nodded
"I'm afraid so..."
"When are we moving?"
"In a few days... We're having movers pack everything up"
I grabbed my coat and stormed out of the house and started walking to the park, Rian made some new friends and went to hang out with them.

I reached the park and saw Rian tossing a football with three other boys. I slowly walked up to him with my head down, I didn't want his friends see me cry.
"Max!" Rian stared running up to me and hugged me. I hugged back softly, with a smile on my face.
"Hi..."
"Max, what's wrong?"
I saw his friends come closer standing a few feet behind Rian.
"I'm moving..."
"What? How far away?" He held my shoulders while looking into my eyes.
"All the way to Oregon..." I didn't dare face him
"Oh, Maxi..." He waited a few seconds "How long until you leave?"
"My mom said a few days"
He smiled and showed his teeth
"We'll have to make the best of it, now won't we"
I nodded and his friend with the brown hair came up behind him.
"Hey, are you going to introduce us? I want to become friends with this girl. She seems cool"
He smile and had a slight accent.
"Are you from here?"
"No, I'm from the U.K. but I moved when I was young"
I just smiled and looked at the other two guys.
"Well, to make things not awkward, I'm Alex" He stuck out his hand to give me a handshake. I didn't feel comfortable doing that so I grabbed his wrist, held up his hand, and gave him a high-five.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Max"
The other two boys started to approach.
"Don't be shy, I won't hurt you. Unless you piss me off because then I will..."
The boy with the jet-black hair came up with the other boy behind him.
"I'm Jack, and this is Zack"
"Hey, I'm Max"
"What are you to Rian? Girlfriend?"
I put my hand on my chest and bobbed my head forward.
"I think I just threw up a little bit"
"No, she's not my girlfriend, she's my best friend"
I started doing little dance moves.
"You wanna know things about me, I'll tell you things about me" I started spinning around Rian.
"She seems... uh, energetic" Jack smiled at me
"Yup. Anyway who want to look at really embarissing pictures of Rian?"
Their hands shot up like bullets but Rian glared at me
"Sorry, Rian, they'd have to see them at some point"
I grabbed Rian's hand and someone else's. It was Jack. He flashed me a big toothy grin and I returned the action. I started to pull them toward my house while Zack and Alex followed close behind.

We reached my house and saw my mom talking wih the movers. Great.
"Hey, if you don't want to face them, we could climb up to your window" Rian pointed to the garden fence on the side of the house, leading up to my window.
"Yea, come on" I dragged them into Rian's yard and started hopping the fence to my house.
Once we were over the strongest one was Zack so he would go last, in case any of us fell. I took my I.D. card from my wallet and started climbing the garden fence. I reached the top in no time and saw that my window was shut. So, I slid the card under my window and lifted the lock. It opened with ease. I jumped inside landing with a thud.
"Ow.." I rubbed my head
I motioned for Rian to start climbing. He held onto each opening reaching up to my window and I pulled him in. I did the same with everyone else, but when I was pulling Jack in, he landed on top of me. I pushed him off and saw Zack was already in.
"So, this is your room?"
They we're looking at the various band posters for Green Day, Blink-182, Deftones, and Pantera.
Along with some action figures of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What can I say? I was a tomboy.
"This is so cool..."
I laughed and opened my closet and reached for the top shelf for a box which had all of my memories in it.
"So those are the glamorous photos of Rian?" Alex smirked, knowing there'd be some blackmail in the future.
"Yup, all the embarrassing photos of Rian and I"
Rian hid his face in his hands, laughing.
"Don't worry, all of them have me in them too. I'll show them the one where we're stuck in the tree when I broke my leg"
"How do you break your leg by being stuck in a tree?" Zack question
"Sorry, we flew into the tree after falling off our skateboards, and then getting stuck in the tree"
He nodded and I pulled out the picture that was taken this past summer. I was hanging upside down and poking Rian's face. I then pulled out the one where I was in the hospital because I had a seizure. Rian wrote on my face.
"Ha, I remember that"
"Yah, you wrote on my face, you dick!" I pushed him off my bed. "Bitch!"
"Haha, I can tell we're going to be great friends already" Jack put his arm around me and I pulled him close.
"See, Jack likes me!"
"You're my best friend!" Rian shouted rubbing his arm
"You wrote the word, boner, on my face..." I flipped him off and continued cuddling Jack.
"Great, now I'm going to be sad when you leave!"
I laughed and saw Rian, digging through my closet.
"Hey, what are you doing, Snoopy?"
"I'm looking for those band bracelets when we went to see Green Day"
"You went to see Green Day without us?" Alex stood up jokingly
"We didn't know you back then, dude. This was last year"
We ended up talking the whole night, the guys had to call their parents just to say that they'd be staying the night at Rian's but in reality, they fell asleep on the futon. Well, Zack and Rian did. Alex, Jack, and I just fell asleep either hanging off the bed, under the bed, or in my closet. I did get their numbers, and I was so happy. I made new friends. But when I woke up. I was on the floor. My bed was gone! And so was everything else in my room... Mom said everything would be packed on the last day. No... Today? She said in a few days!
"Guys..." I shook Rian awake and he just saw me in tears. I think he was about to ask what was wrong until he looked around and saw that everything was gone.
"Oh no, Maxi" He got up and pulled me into a hug.
"She lied, Rian. She said a few days, maybe even a week. Not the next day!"
I felt many arms wrap around me, I guess my crying was loud.
"Max, you'll be okay, we'll call you everyday" Zack whispered in my ear.
"Ahh!" I heard my mother scream.
"Mom, what is it?"
"You... you little whore! Having guys sleep in your room? I've never seen them before, and you Rian I expected better from you!"
"Mom, calm down! They're all just friends. We're just hugging because you lied and now we're moving today"
"No, they all look like punks..."
I rolled my eyes. She's gotten more judgmental over the years.
"I look the exact same way, I have piercings and dyed hair, just like them"
"Exactly, why do you think I don't go out in public with you?"
"What the fuck Ms. Reynolds?" Rian suddenly stepped in.
"Rian, this isn't your buisness"
If looks could kill, we'd all be 6 feet under.
"It is their buisness now, you're comparing them, so it involves them"
"Makenzi, we are leaving!" She grabbed my ear but I felt someone grab my hand.
Zack.
"At least let us say goodbye!" Wow. That's the most I've heard out of him since we met.
"Fine, Makenzi, you have five minutes to get into the car!" She stormed out of the room.
"What happened there?" Jack asked. I was about to answer when I heard the clicking of my moms heels come back.
I turned around to tell her we'd like some privacy but, all of a sudden I felt a sharp pain on my left cheek. She hit me...
"Mom?" I was holding my cheek while Rian pulled me back and Jack held me.
"She hit me..." I whispered into his neck.
"I know, Rian's taking care of it, sweetheart" I felt him kiss my head.
"Lilian, what the hell is wrong with you? This girl has done nothing to you, why would you hit her?" I heard Rian scream but not a peep out of my mom.
"You realize we could keep her, my mom is her godmother so if the police find out, which they will, we can take this to court and fight for her custody!"
"Rian, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit my baby girl..."
She started walking towards me and I squeezed Jack and he moved me farther away.
"Let me see my daughter!" She demanded
"Jack, it's okay... I have to go with her. She's my mom"
I pulled away with bloodshot eyes and tear stains on my cheeks
"Max, you don't have to, you can stay here with us"
"She already enrolled me in school, bought us a house, we can't afford this house, not ever since my dad died"
I turned and glared at my mom.
"I don't have a choice, and I'll miss all of you, so much!"
I started laughing so I wouldn't cry
"Lilian, could we have some privacy?" I gritted my teeth as I said that.
"Makenzi..."
"Leave" Rian stood up and pointed towards the door
My mom grunted and held up five fingers. Five minutes to say goodbye to my best friends. Rian locked the door this time.
"Max, you should tell the police" Zack put a hand on my shoulder
"No. She was just angry, that's the first time she's ever done it. I don't think she'll ever do it, possibly"
I realized I was still hugging Jack and he was rubbing my head.
"I guess this is goodbye, little sister"
I saw Rian crying.
"Aw, Rian!" I let go of Jack and ran over to Rian.
"It'll be okay, you have my number and it says, right there" I pointed on his phone "Maxi"
I cuddled him and let go to say goodbye to the others.
"Alex, I'm gonna miss you"
"I'll miss you too, Maxi"
I shoved his shoulder and pulled him into a hug.
"I'll be back when I'm older, I promise"
I ruffled his hair and moved on to Zack. I instantly pulled him in
"Thanks for everything" I nuzzled into his chest and he patted my back.
Last but not least. Jack.
"Thank you, Jack" I snaked my arms around his neck and had to stand on my toes. I fit my head in his neck.
"You're welcome, Maxi"
"Makenzi, we have to go!" I heard my mother shout
"Bye, Jack" I kissed his cheek and started walking downstairs and saw the guys follow me.
"I'll miss you so much, Maxi!" I saw Rian's mom, Kathi, right by the car.
"I'll miss you too, Kathi" I hugged her and slowly walked towards the car.
"Wait!" I saw Zack holding a camera "We need to take pictures together"
I ran over and Kathi took the camera.
"Alright, Zack!" I felt Zack lift my legs and hold my back.
I squealed as he held me bridal style. Click. I heard the camera go off and Zack put me down.
"Thanks for not dropping me!"
He nodded and Alex came over.
We sat Indian style on the road, arms around eachother. Rian came around and he thought it'd be fun if I got on his back, like a piggy-back ride.
Click. I heard the camera again.
"I'll miss you baby sister"
Again, last but not least. Jack.
"What do you want to do for our picture?" I asked and he smiled. Guess it's a surprise.
I just smiled and he Pulled me close and kissed my cheek. I smiled and showed my teeth while holding his neck and he took hold of my back.
"Aw" Kathi smiled and put down the camera.
"I'll see you later, Maxi"
I hugged all the guys one last time, got in the car, and started the long journey to Oregon.
