A Daydream Away

Jack’s POV

“Look, I don’t know what to do. He’s like, perfect and adorable as hell, and I really like him… but my friends will dump me on my ass if they find out.” I rambled, clutching my phone between my ear and my shoulder. I kicked my refrigerator door shut with my foot and did my best to make a sandwich with my ear pressed against my shoulder.
“Well why don’t you just ditch your friends. They obviously aren’t your real friends if they treat you like that.” May said into the phone.
My older sister was good at giving advice, but it was hard to really get the full thing when she was like a billion miles away from home.
“Yeah but then I’ll get picked on and he will too!” I said, attempting to spread mayonnaise on my sandwich.
“Well, do you really care about him?” May said.
“Of course! I’ve never felt this way about anyone before… but he might have a boyfriend. There’s a bunch of rumors going around that he does. And he had a picture of some dude and him getting pretty cozy in his car.” I replied, going up the stairs.
“Well then maybe you should just try moving on. Like just try to get rid of your feelings unless you find out he’s single. Do you think he likes you?”
“Well not after I gave him a fucking panic attack he doesn’t. And I doubt he even knew me as anything but the ‘popular kid who fucks with all the teachers’ until today.”
I was closer to May than I was with anyone else, and only she knew about how I cared about school, even if I didn’t act like it. She was the only person who really knew what went on inside my head, but it was a rare occasion that I actually got to talk to her.
“Well my best advice is just to be his friend… but maybe not around Max and the others… speaking of the dick, how is he?” May questioned
“Still sleeping with every girl he lays his eyes on, still a dick, and still thinks I’m a manwhore” I replied, rolling my eyes.
“Why do you even hang around him?”
“I thought he was hot on the first day of 8th grade, and he actually used to be pretty cool.”
There was a knock on the door a moment later, so I said my goodbyes to May after promising to call her more often.
I ran down the stairs, taking two at a time as I went. It was probably a box being delivered or a door to door salesman, something I could shake away easily.
I pulled the door open quickly, coming face to face with none other than Maxwell Nichols, my ‘best friend’.
I stared at his cruel smirk that he planted on his already rude looking features. When he was mad, he stared at you like Draco Malfoy staring at Harry Potter after he’d been outwitted. Every angle of his was sharp, and every flick of his eyes held more malice. In fact, the only difference between him and Draco was the fact that his hair was a jet black color.
“Hey man, what’s up?” I said, not daring to open the glass door that shielded me from him.
The smirk on his face set deeper as he stared me down.
Finally he opened his mouth, throwing out a question I hoped he’d never have to ask.
“So, why were you riding in a car with a faggot, Jack?”
