A Daydream Away

I'm Not Always Right

Alex’s POV

It was the morning after Jack and I’s date. He left at 11pm, about two hours after we got back from our date.
My mom told me that he could spend the night, but I was too shy to ask him to stay. In fact, it would be a while before I’d ever be able to have him stay over. Self-esteem was not something I had a lot of, and sleeping with someone required a lot.
“You look happy.” Vic said, stepping into my room.
He walked to his spot on the floor, sitting crisscross and running his fingers through his hair.
“Well, why shouldn’t I be?” I smiled, turning to the handsome person across the room from me.
“Well Jack…?”
“Is my boyfriend.” I finished his open sentence.
A smile appeared on his face, but he didn’t look too surprised by my words.
“That’s great. I’m glad you forgave him.”
I studied Vic, trying to figure out what was wrong. The look in his eyes said he was happy, but something underneath said there was another emotion running through his veins.
“You don’t seem to surprised.” I said, lying down on my bed and tossing my phone up in the air.
“I just figured it was going to happen.” Vic said.
“Victor, I’ve been friends for you forever, I know you’re lying. Why aren’t you surprised?”
“Don’t call me Victor.” Vic muttered.
I waited for him to continue, but no more words spilled out.
“Are you okay?” I asked, catching my phone one last time and sat up on the bed. Vic was staring at the ground, playing with his fingers.
I stared at him, I knew silence made him speak more than questioning did.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, Vic sucked in a deep breath.
“Don’t get upset, okay?” He said, still staring at the ground.
“Why would I get upset?”
“You usually get upset over this sort of thing and-”
“What sort of thing?” I interrupted, growing frustrated. Vic never hid things from me, and I never hid things from him… well, nothing important for that matter. One of the only times we’d ever been in this situation was when I wanted to figure out what he got me for my birthday.
“Well… I kind of talked to Jack.” Vic whispered.
I knitted my eyebrows. Talk to Jack? Why would he talk to Jack?
“You’ve never even met him before, how did you know where he-”
“You pointed his neighborhood out to me a few days ago. I asked some neighbors and they pointed me to his house. It wasn’t too hard.”
“Okay… why?”
Another minute of silence fell between us.
“You.” He let the word out of his mouth like a breath. Once that was out, the rest fell out of his mouth like apples out of a tree.
“He wasn’t going to do anything on his own. If we was going to do anything, it would’ve already been done by the time I got there. So I went at first to give him shit about hurting you… but then, I saw the look in his eyes. He was hurting… so I gave him a nudge.”
“You… what?”
Vic finally looked up at me, his face red. “I told him how you felt… feel about him.”
My stomach dropped. I should’ve guessed. How else would he have known I was at the park? Why else would he just suddenly come and fix us? It wasn’t because he was taking a chance, it was because he knew. Vic told him.
“You… told… you told him?” I whispered.
Vic’s face dropped back to the ground.
“I told you not to get upset.”
“How am I not supposed to get upset?! What if he didn’t actually have feelings for me, and everything just fell apart even more?! How could you tell him?! I trusted you.” I spat out. If there was something I couldn’t stand, it was people who broke promises.
“I knew he loved you from the moment I looked at him Alex. I wouldn’t have said anything if I hadn’t seen that. He needed to know how you felt before he would’ve said anything.”
“So he only fucking talked to me because you asked him to. It wasn’t him, it was all you.” My hands clenched into fists.
Vic shook his head. “No, no. He wanted to. I just nudged him. All he was thinking about was you. All he wanted to do was run to you and fix it. He just didn’t want to make a fool of himself.”
I sucked in a deep breath, not daring to let myself speak. I didn’t want to blow up even more than I just did.
“I’m sorry.” Vic muttered. His bright brown eyes glittered in the light of my room. They were gorgeous, but nowhere near Jack’s.
“Can you just…” I sucked in a deep breath, wondering if I should say what I was thinking. I tore my eyes away from his and let out my breath. “Just leave…”
