Nothing Personal

"Jack Barakat..." I smiled as Jack's name was called. He walked out to receive his diploma, shaking our Principal's hand. He stood at the podium and tested the microphone with his finger.

"I'd just like to say that the past four years here were fantastic. I've met people that I've stayed friends with, I've met people that I've fallen out of touch with.. and there's been a few people I've fallen for. You know, it's funny. It's funny to think about 'the one', if you know what I'm talking about.

"I think what I'm trying to say.. is that I think I've found the one. The one person who makes me happy day in and day out, and I'd gladly do anything for him, because I am so deeply in love with him," Jack paused, looking over to find me. I met his gaze with my tear-filled eyes and he smiled.

"He hasn't walked yet, but when he does, I want you all to give him a great round of applause. I think he would appreciate it, as would I. Thanks," he finished, and he walked off. I spent the whole time up until my name was called, crying. I was still crying as I walked out, accepting my diploma from my Principal. I stood at the podium and watched as Rian and Jack gave me a standing ovation, and I hadn't even said anything yet. Everyone else followed their example and most stood, giving me the biggest applause I've ever received. I looked down as fresh tears filled my eyes, and I smiled. Finally, the applause died down, and I got a chance to speak.

"Thank you, everyone. I greatly appreciate it," I said with a shaky voice.

"And I'd like to start off by saying that Jack, I love you too. I haven't been at this school for all four years, but damn, has it given me a great experience, along with a few bad ones. I've met the most amazing friends.. the most amazing boyfriend, and the biggest bully I've ever faced. Let me say that bullying doesn't last forever, but it may seem like it.

"This guy.. I was afraid of him when he first attacked me. He carved 'faggot' and 'queer' into both of my wrists, and I will never forgive him for that. And the best part? I didn't offend him in any way, shape, or form. He attacked me because I'm gay, because I'm happy with the relationship I have, and my sexuality. But he couldn't stand it, so he went after me.

"I won't forget the look on Jack's face when I told him what happened. I won't ever forget how nervous he was when he was cleaning me up. Nathan Grace, I really hope you're fucking proud. Proud because you hurt someone who was innocent. If you ever say you were offended by something I did, well... I'd say fuck that. Thank you, and goodbye," I said, and I walked offstage and I found a seat next to Jack. He kissed me roughly, and I smiled into it.

"Fantastic speech, baby," he said.

"You too, Jacky," I said. He grinned, and we watched the rest of the students give their speeches. After the principal gave his speech, we all threw our hats up, and Jack pulled me into a passionate kiss. We were now free. Free from school, free from homework.

Needless to say, it was one of the best days of my life.
