Who Said It Was Gonna Be Easy?

"Alex! What's wrong? What's happened?"

"I was sick and I knew you'd be disappointed in me and I kind of cut again because I knew you'd be disappointed in me and now I've m-m-made it even worse and you're no-not going t-to like me anymore!" he sobbed. I sat next to him and put my arms out to him. He moved so he was sat up but I had to pull him into my arms. He was all tensed up. I rocked him gently.

"lex, you're ill. Why would I be disappointed with you for being sick?" he looked up at me.

"because you don't like the fact that I purge" he said quietly.

"lex, that's kinda different. I'm not disappointed with you"

"I don't believe you"

"well there's nothing I can do about that really" I sighed. I tucked his head under my chin and just held him close. I saw he was holding his arm in an awkward position.

"lemme see, lex. I won't hurt you, I promise" he nodded and allowed me to roll back his sleeve. There was dried blood on his arm. He hid his face in my chest as I looked at it.

"lex, how did you do this? I took all your blades away with me"

"not all of them" he admitted quietly. "there's one in the back of my phone"

"fuck. I'm sorry, I didn't think"

"it's not your fault" he said softly. I felt him finally relax and lean into me.

"how are you feeling?"

"better now you're here"

"I was worrying about you, y'know"

"were you?" he seemed surprised.

"mhmm. My class was asking about you"

"people were not asking about me, that's a lie"

"well they didn't know it was you they were asking about but they were still asking"

"what were they saying?"

"they were asking who I was texting and when I wouldn't tell them, they asked if it was my girlfriend because I'd been acting weird"

"oh..what did you tell them?" "I told them I don't have a girlfriend. Then they asked if it was my boyfriend"

"um...ok...what did you say?"

"I told them it wasn't"

"oh" Alex said. He sounded like he was trying to cover up the disappointment in his voice but I could still hear it.

"I told them it wasn't but I'd very much like him to be because it's only been a couple of days and he means a lot to me already"

"what?"

"look, lex, I'm sorry but I've got to go"

"um..okay"

"you should get some sleep or something" I told him. He nodded and lay down. I kissed him softly on the head then left again.
