Alex

Second day of school, and I was already feeling extremely uncomfortable. Jack had practically forced me to not go home after class, and he didn't look like he was up for negotiation. When he referred to himself as my friend I got pretty excited though, now with him and Patrick by my side, this school would be tolerable.

Jack grabbed me by the arm and dragged me out of school, passing the flag pole where his smoker friend was waiting for him, and immediately referred to me as Jack's date. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of it, it's not the fact that he's an awful person, it's just he's a guy, I'm a guy...it just, no. Forbidden.

After Jack called his 'friend' a 'dick' and we walked around the corner to where the late students parked in the mornings. He was explaining how we were going to the mall to chill out as we walked up to a black motorcycle, and I would have said no and go home if it weren't for the fact that Jack said it was safe.

Now let me tell you something, that vehicle is a deathtrap and I'm certain that he was trying to kill me, so the faster he drive, the tighter I had to latch on to him.

We both walked around the mall for a while, Jack telling me stories about him and his friends messing around here. He then led me in to a store called Hot Topic and asked me about myself where I just told him the basics, I was an only child, my dad was a priest and my favourite food was either pasta or pancakes.

The place looked pretty... different from the outside, but the inside was even more strange. There were rows and rows of t-shirts with various skulls patterns and logos on, and a shelf full of bright coloured jeans. I watched Jack as he picked up a few things, holding them against my body and then put them back.

"What are you-"

"Ooh, I love this song!" Jack grinned, doing excited little hops on the spot.

I stopped what I was doing and listened out for the lyrics, which weren't to my taste. "Uh, it's okay, I guess..." Lie. Wait, I just lied? Why did I do that and how was it so easy? I felt my cheeks flush and I stared down at the floor. "Thou shall not lie." I muttered to myself, not wanting Jack to hear.

"Are you kidding me?! This is my favourite Simple Plan song! It's amazing!"

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!
Don't wanna hear it!
Get out! Get out! Get out!
Get outta my way!"

It sounded rather agressive, not really my thing, but I shrugged my shoulders not wanting to insult Jack's music taste.

"What do you think of Blink?" He asked, waggling his eyebrows at me as I checked my cell to see I had a text from my mom telling me to be back by five.

"What's Blink?"

It's fair to say Jack look horrified when I asked. Was it some big trend that I was missing out on? Was it some kind of code-word? Jack's mouth fell open and was making inhuman noises that were probably meant to be words, but nothing came out for a few seconds.

"Fucking hell Lex," he laughed playfully, "Blink 182? The band?"

My mouth formed a small 'o' shape as I realised that we were infact now stood in the Blink 182 section of the shop, assorted tees and hoodies with their logo on were everywhere.

"Oh," I said, ignoring the fact that he called me Lex again, "well I've never listened to them, so I don't have an opinion."

Jack's eyes widened as he plucked a black tee from one of the piles, along with a pair of very tight looking black jeans and dashed over to the CD stand. I nervously looked around and follwwed him, to see him frantically browsing the hundreds of cases.

"What are you doing?" I asked curiously.

"Shh."

I closed my mouth and let him carry on for a minute or so before be held up a record in the air triumphantly before kissing it. I looked at the artwork of 'Enema of the State' and frowned slightly at what I saw; a woman in a very revealing nurses outfit.

Before I could even question what was going on, Jack grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the cashier. He quickly paid for his few items and we left, making our way to a coffee shop where we sat opposite one another in the booth and waiting for our orders to be brought over.

"So, Lex, got yourself a girlfriend?" Jack asked suddenly, causing me to almost choke on my own saliva.

"No, I uh, I've never had one either." I admitted.

"But you look so... y'know..." he stated, looking me up and down which made me feel uneasy.

"My last school was an all boys school, I-"

"WHAT? You're kidding right?"

"Nope."

"That kinda blows."

"Not really, it was a great school." I smiled.

As if out of nowhere, a waitress emerged and plopped two drinks down in front of us and walked away again, but not before she winked at the skunk-haired boy.

Jack rummaged around in the plastic bag he'd got from Hot Topic and took something out, then pushing the bag across the table to me.

"Wear this tomorrow," he commanded, "it'll look amazing on you."

I eyed the bag containing the clothes and then my new friend. "Jack, I can't wear your stuff-"

"It's not mine," he interrupted, "it's yours, I bought it for you."

"Well take it back! I'm not going to let you buy me clothes."

He uncurled his clenched fist, revealing the receipt. So that's what he took from the bag. He waved it in front of my face and I tried to grab it, but failing as he retracted his hand and tutted.

"Bad Lex. Bad." He laughed, shaking his hair and tearing up the small piece of paper, throwing the small confetti sized pieces on the table between us.

"That wasn't a very good move, was it?" I sighed, shoving the bag back over to his side of the table. "Oh well, looks like you'll be keeping them after all." I said with a sarcastic smile.

Jack laughed again, "they're not my size Princess."

I rolled my eyes and gave up trying to argue with him. Suddenly, my phone started ringing from the pocket of my chinos and I took it out, accepting my mom's call.

"Alexander sweetie, where are you it's half five."

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry," I appologised, "I'll be right back, see you soon!"

I hung up the phone and rose from my seat, collecting my things together, "sorry, I have to go." I said to Jack as I put the Hot Topic bag in my rucksack.

"Need a ride?"

I was about to turn his offer down when I realised I had no idea where I was or how to get back. "Sure, thanks."

We both left the mall and headed out to the parking lot when I remembered Jack drove a death trap and I would have to try and survive again by clinging on with every fiber of my being.

Dear God, please don't let me die.
