Do it for me

Things with Jack and I just haven’t been normal. He wouldn’t take me anywhere because he was afraid he would do something wrong. I didn’t even care anymore. I just wanted to feel like he cared about me.

“Wake up, Del.”

I looked up and peeked an eye open, seeing my moms slim face staring at me.

“Yes?” I muttered.

She gave me the widest grin I’d ever seen and giggled. “Happy birthday!”

I looked up at her and sat up, rubbing my eyes.

“Oh yeah, it is my birthday.” I muttered.

She giggled and nodded, sitting on my bed.

“You don’t have to go to school if you don’t want to.”

I bit my lip and smiled. “Thanks, Mom.”

She nodded and handed me a small box.

I smiled and grabbed it, untying the little bow on it. I opened the lid and looked down at the gift, smiling at her.

“ I didn’t know what to get you.”

I smiled and picked up the small, silver necklace and nodded. “ It’s perfect. Simple and not too much.”

My mom gave a wide grin and kissed my cheek.

“ Thanks, Mom.” I handed it to her so she could help me get it on.

My mom put the necklace on me once I lifted my hair and she grinned. “You’re growing too quickly.”

I giggled and kissed her cheek. ”I won’t be leaving for a while.”

She smiled and stood up, ruffling my hair. “I invited your friends over for cake tonight, I hope you don’t mind.”

I looked up at her and bit my lip nervously. Great.

I gave a tiny smile and shrugged. “That sounds great.”

All day, I hang out with my mom. We watched movies, ate lots of junk food, talked and laughed, did boring things. But it was how we always celebrated our birthday’s. We didn’t really go all out.
I heard a knock at the door and looked up from the couch I was sitting at.

My mom stood and opened the front door, smiling and saying hello to everyone.

I watched each person file into my house. Alex, Zack, Rian, Bethany, and Caitlyn. But there was no Jack. I looked down, a little bit disappointed.

I stood up and walked over to everyone, smiling and thanking them for coming as they hugged me. Zack carried the cake over to the kitchen table and set it down.

Alex looked over at me and smiled. ”Happy birthday, Delilah.”

I smiled. ”Thanks, Lex.”

He nodded and looked at the other guys.” Jack wanted to say sorry. He had something to do and felt really bad.”

I nodded and shrugged.

My mom lit the candles on the cake and grinned, switching the lights off.

I listened to everyone scream happy birthday. Alex actually sang it good.

I leaned down and closed my eyes, not really wishing for anything. I blew out the candles and smiled as everyone clapped.

“What did you wish for?” Caitlyn looked at me and smiled.

I shrugged.” A pony.”

She rolled her eyes and smiled.

What I really wished for, was Jack. My own boyfriend to show up for my birthday.
