Chapter 10

The morning after my birthday, I woke up to an empty bedroom. Jack probably left to get ready for school. I stood up and wrapped a blanket around myself, walking downstairs.

“Morning, sleeping beauty.” I heard Jack say and I looked over, smiling. He stayed.

My mom glanced at me. ”Morning!” She giggled. She was in the kitchen, cooking some eggs.

I bit my lip. “Hey, you two.” I laughed quietly.

Jack gave me a small kiss and sat at the kitchen table. “ I wanted to take you to school today.”

I smiled, nodding. “Okay.” I bit my lip and sat at the table to eat.

My mom put the plate of eggs on the table, humming. ”So, what did you get for your birthday?”

I smiled.” Jack got me a guitar.”

My mom grinned. “Wow, Jack!” She giggled.

I nodded. “It hasn’t come yet, but he’s going to teach me once I get it.”

She smiled. “That’s sweet of you.”

Jack smiled at her and bit his lip. “She deserves it.”

I smiled at him and ate some eggs.

Once second period was over, I walked over to the lunch table filled with my friends. Alex and Caitlyn were making googly eyes at each other, Rian was doing homework, Zack was eating, and Jack was listening to some music and eating.

“Hey, beautiful.” Jack grinned.

I smiled. “Hey.” I sat next to him, putting my lunch tray down.

Zack glanced at me and smiled. “Here.” He chuckled, handing me a bag of chips. “School food is disgusting.”

I laughed quietly, nodding. “Thanks, Zack.” I opened the bag of chips and felt Jack wrap his arm around my waist.

Jack glanced at me and smiled. “So, the guitar should be here today.”

I grinned and ate a chip. “Yay!” I giggled quietly.

Jack smiled and nodded.

Zack glanced at us, as well as Alex.

Alex smiled. “A guitar?”

Jack nodded. “I got her a guitar for her birthday.”

Alex grinned. “Nice,man. Maybe a girl can join the band.” He winked.

I laughed quietly, shaking my head. “I don’t even play.”

Zack bit his lip softly and smiled. “It’s not that hard.”

Jack nodded and glanced at me. “Hey, did you want to go out to dinner on Saturday night?”

I smiled and thought for a second. That’s when the concert with Zack was. Crap.

Jack frowned. “Del?”

I bit my lip and frowned. “I can’t go,Jack. I have some things to do with my mom. We can Sunday night?”

Jack smiled, nodding. “Cool.”

I glanced at Zack and he looked a bit disappointed that I didn’t tell the truth. It was just a tiny white lie.

It’s not that I thought Jack would be upset I was going out somewhere with Zack, I just thought it would be easier that way. It’s not like I felt anything for him, right?
