Undead Ahead

I Am Lost Without You Here

My hopes of slipping into a not so peaceful sleep and being eating by a corpse were shattered when I felt someone roughly shaking me and asking if I was alive.

‘Go away’ I grumbled, suddenly not really up for any human company anymore. I just wanted to die.

‘No. I’m not leaving you’ the voice said with a determined tone. ‘Either you get up and start walking or I am carrying you.’

‘You could try’ I grumbled, refusing to give up.

‘As you wish’ The voice said with a laugh easily hauling me up from the ground and over his shoulder, all I seen on my way up was a flash of dark hair with a blonde streak through it.

‘Put me down!’ I yelled, hitting the man on the back as hard as I could with my fists but it really didn’t seem to be bothering him as he continued to walk down the road ignoring my protesting. Realising that my efforts were futile, I gave up and just allowed him to carry me figuring that he’d eventually put me down.

‘Your hairs stupid’ I grumbled. ‘You look like a skunk’

‘Is that so? Well at least I don’t smell like a skunk. When was the last time you washed?’ He retorted. Now I was thankful that he couldn’t see my face as I was bright red with embarrassment.

‘Shut up’ I mumbled in defeat. He just laughed and it was a pleasant thing to hear. I hadn’t laughed or heard laughter in ages.

‘What’s your name anyhow?’ He asked me.

‘None of your god damn business’ I replied flatly.

‘Well ‘none of your god damn business’ I’m Jack and it’s lovely to meet you’ He replied, laughing again. Why is this guy so god damn happy? It’s the end of the world for god damn sake.

‘Where are you taking me?’ I asked, realising that we were walking towards the city which I knew was infested with corpses.

‘I’m taking you to where myself and some other survivors are currently staying. You’ll be safe there with me.’ He replied

‘And what if I don’t want to be there?’ I challenged. I could hear him sigh gently at how resistant I was being.

‘Then no one will force you to stay but please at least stay the night, you look like you need food, a hot shower and a decent night’s sleep’ He replied, pleading with me slightly. I couldn’t deny that all those things did sound nice; maybe I would just stay with Jack for at least a few nights.

‘Hey Jack?’ I asked after a few moments of silence. ‘Can I walk now?’

‘You won’t run away, will you?’ He asked as I shook my head.

‘Very well’ He said, gently placing me on to my feet and allowing me to get a proper look at him and well, he was attractive. He was tall and his hair that I had called stupid actually suited him. His nose might have been a bit on the big side but once again it suited him for some reason.

‘Like what you see?’ He asked, reminding me of the fact that he was annoying as hell. I choose not to answer him and instead kept walking only to have Jack run up and pull me back. Just as I was about to complain I noticed the big herd of corpses coming towards us.

‘Come with me’ Jack whispered, running whilst pulling me behind him until he found an abandoned bus and pulled me behind it and forced me to crouch down.

‘I’ve never seen a crowd so big!’ I exclaimed, shocked by the amount of corpses. Jack silenced me by placing his big hand over my mouth as the herd slowly lumbered by us. Both of us sat as still as possible, trying to keep our breathing as quiet as we could. After a few minutes, Jack decided it was safe to come out and pulled me out from behind the bus and we started off down the road until we came to a big abandoned house , surrounded by make shift wooden fences and gates.

‘Welcome to our house’ Jack said proudly as he gestured to the house in front of him. He quickly opened the gate and let us through ensuring to close it behind him again. He walked towards the house and opened the door revealing a room full of strangers who all turned to stare at me.

‘Guys, this is ‘none of your god damn business’ and he’s going to be staying with us for a while’ Jack announced to the room full of people. I blushed as Jack made fun of me for what I said earlier.

‘My names Alex.’ I said shyly to the room full of people who just smiled at me. Two men caught my eye as they were curled up together on an old armchair, cuddling into each other happily. They reminded me of Matt and I couldn’t help but watch them.

‘Ahh, the happy couple over there is Jaime and Vic’ Jack said getting the two men’s attention.

‘I’m Jaime’ the one with crazy spikey hair said. ‘And this is my baby Vic’ He said gesturing to the small man curled up on his lap.

‘It’s lovely to meet you’ Vic said with a small smile which I returned.

‘Alright, time to meet everyone else!’ Jack declared grabbing my hand and pulling me into the room.

Maybe I would like it here…
