Sit Back, Gotta Catch My Breath

I stared up at the night sky as I thought about Alex. I remember one night when I was at his house, we stared up at the stars together, talking and wondering what the future had in store for us. After we graduatued, we were going to go full time into this band thing and make it big. We were going to get our own place and things were going to be perfect.
But now that dream was out the window. I threw it all away to come to California and live with my mom. Sure, living with her was a lot better than living with my good-for-nothing dad, but I missed Alex. I missed running my hands through his hair when we cuddled and looking into those big brown eyes of his.
I sighed as I ran a hand through my hair. I stood up and went inside. Mom had gone to bed a long time ago. As for me, I haven't slept in three days.
I went into the kitchen and made myself some coffee. I took a sip and sighed before heading to my room. I closed the door behind me and sat down in my desk chair. I set down my mug and folded my hands in my lap. I glanced over at my phone, wondering if Alex was still awake. He probably wasn't. It was about midnight back in Maryland. Any sane person would be asleep by now. I lolled my head back and looked up at the ceiling. I haven't talked to Lex since I left Maryland. I didn't even say goodbye to him before I left. I saw him running after me as I was driving away, but I knew that if I stopped to tell him goodbye, I wouldn't be able to work up the nerve to leave. What I did was necessary. I had to do it.
