For Baltimore

"So mom.." I trailed off, taking a sip of the coffee she made. We were currently at her house, huddled in the warmth of the living room as a fire blazed in the hearth.

"What?" She asked.

"How are you?" I asked, looking at her peculiarly.

"What do you mean?" She questioned.

"Since dad died... how are you? I'm sorry that I never came to visit.. I wasn't able to." I muttered.

"Oh.. I've been doing fine.. Lizzy has been acting different." My mom said as said dog walked into the living room. I called her over and scratched behind her ears.

"Well, I wouldn't blame her.. she was his best friend." I said. She kept shying away from Alex, and pressing against my legs.

"She seems... sad.. heartbroken even.." Alex said. I nodded and leaned my head on his shoulder, still scratching Lizzy behind the ears.

"Mrs. Gray-"

"Please, call me Michelle."

"Okay.. Michelle.. is it alright if Del leaves her things here for a while?" Alex asked.

"Del.. never considered that nickname before, but yeah.. that's fine. I'll just keep it up in her room where it is now. I don't want to deal with it." She said.

"Lizzy.. do you miss daddy?" I asked softly. She replied with a soft bark and my heart broke into pieces.

"Alex.. she's never done that before." I said as tears filled my eyes. I choked up and removed my hand from Lizzy's head. I put my face in Alex's shoulder and cried. He rubbed my arm and kissed the top of my head.

"Del.." He whispered. I looked up at him, tears slowly falling down my cheeks.

"Everything will be fine. Breathe, it's just chemicals, sweetheart." He said.

"Quoting yourself, are you?" I asked, and Alex smiled, causing me to do the same.

"There's that smile. That beautiful smile I absolutely love." He said. I blushed and quickly kissed him.

"Aww." My mom said from the other couch. She lifted her coffee cup to her lips and my smile widened.

"We should probably get back, don't you think, Lex?" I asked.

"Yeah. Mitch will kill you." Alex said.

"Lex. That's cute." My mom said. I blushed again and Alex pulled me up off the couch with him.

"Thank you so much Michelle, for the coffee and for keeping Del's things here." Alex said.

"Oh it's no problem. You're a sweet boy, Alex. I love you both. Take care." My mom said as she stood and took our mugs from us. I hugged her and Alex and I left.
