Misery Business

Hello, Hometown

Adjusting the name tag on her uniform, Victoria turned to the popcorn machine to finish the mother’s order. She sighed as she handed the woman and her child the small bag of popcorn and they handed her the money while walking away. Well, that was fun.

The movie theater was honestly the only good paying job in the town she’d been living in her whole life. Victoria tried to fulfill her dreams of being an artist―even went to college for it―but after a year of searching for any job involving her passion, she gave up and looked for a “real job.” She already had an apartment in the town after moving out of her parents, and needed a job in the area. So, hello Regal Cinemas.

But, I know. The only reason why you’re probably reading this sequel is to find out about Alex. Well, it’s the year of 2012 now, meaning that All Time Low was at the top of their game. Since high school, they’d accomplished more than Victoria had since she’d been born. They had been on multiple tours―one with Green Day, might I add―and their fan base had grown more than just the little crowd always surrounding them in high school. At 24, Alex was very successful―and here Victoria was, wiping down her counter stained with popcorn butter.

She tried to stay away from as much All Time Low she could take. They were constantly on Fuse and their music videos always showed up on her suggestions tab on YouTube. She hadn’t seen them in seven years, and despite the stupid promise Alex made―“tides will bring me back to you” shit―she was pretty sure they’d never come back to this shit town, while she was stuck here until the day she died. As for the dating game, she had only dated two other guys after Alex, but broke them off because they weren’t “right for her.” (Alex had really set the bar high for her, if she was being honest with herself.) It sounds kind of sad, but she didn’t quite mind trying to wipe out ATL from her memory and living a normal life in the town she’d been born in.

She just didn’t realize how hard that was going to be.

Alex felt the familiar breeze of his hometown blow through his hair. He missed this place more than he thought he did. It’s good to be back, he thought to himself as he helped the guys unload the last box into his new apartment. As much as Alex loved touring and staying out anywhere, he decided that he should finally have a home somewhere to himself, and going back to his hometown was just the place.

“It’s a nice place.” Jack smirked while looking out the deck. “Just imagine how it will be trashed …”

“No, no parties here.” Alex pointed a finger at him like a stern parent. “Once you get your place back here, that’s where we party.”

“Fuck you, man.” Jack frowned.

Zack, being the athletic and strong person he was, carried each box to its desired room as Rian said, “I’m glad we’re back here, at least for when tours end. The memories …” He laughed.

“Yeah, remember our last day here?” Jack made a kissy face at Alex as his friend looked at him confused.

“Barely,” Alex softly chuckled.

“Dude, you seriously don’t remember?” Rian looked at him questioningly.

“No,” he furrowed his brow, “should I?”

Jack quickly piped up, “Just forget about it.”

Alex shook his head, confused, and there was a moment of silence between all of them before they heard a girlish squeal, “Oh, my gosh! It’s so cute!”

“Hey, babe,” Alex smiled as Lisa approached him, planting a kiss on his nose.

“I love the place.” She giggled, looking down at the mattress left to be unpacked. “Looks like we’re sleeping on the floor tonight.”

“And that’s our cue to go,” Rian cleared his throat. “C’mon guys.”

Alex waved goodbye to his friends, but still had his eyes trained on his bubbly girlfriend. Lisa confused the rest of the band so much. She was the exact opposite of everything Alex wanted in a girl, literally. But it wasn’t like they didn’t like Lisa; she was a funny and cute girl, but just not … right. Alex stayed with her though, numerous amounts of times really. They were always on-again, off-again, which Alex didn’t mind with some one night stands he had in between all these years. He could have any girl he wanted, but he always seemed to pick the wrong ones, at least in the boys’ eyes.

Rian closed the apartment door behind him, whispering to other two, “He really doesn’t remember our last day here?”

Jack shrugged. “He’s never really had a good memory.”

“But that’s a clear explanation why he never called her or came back here until now.” Zack added. “It’s just … you would’ve thought with the tattoo …”

“All he remembers is that he got it for a girl when he was young. He just doesn’t remember who.” Jack shook his head.

They headed into the elevator, Rian muttering, “He really forgot about her.”

“He would,” was the last thing Jack said before the doors closed.

Notes

I don't think this sequel will be as good as "Bulletproof Love," but I'm trying :3 I don't know when I'll update next -- my grades and school are getting in the way of things.
