Feeling This

Smiling From Ear To Ear

Alex was sitting on the edge of his bed, clinging to his guitar with his eyes closed, waiting for the inspiration to strike again. Beside him, his notebook was open, with a few words scribbled in blue ink. Things that he wanted to say, feelings he wanted to express, but none of them were forming as correctly as they had in his head the previous night.

"I have seen millions of faces, ever-unchanging; content with redundancy. I'm not the same way; searching for change in the directions that I want to go."

His mind was on Jack. The events from the night before, although Alex was still a little sore from the animal-like desire they had for one another, kept a smile plastered on his lips as his fingers danced along the strings. It was the memory that would make this song come to life, and maybe the problem was that the memory wasn't over yet. There were still many weeks left for Jack and Alex to explore their desire for one another.

"Take a breath, let it out slow..."

Jack's eyes fluttered open to the sound of Alex's voice hitting his ears. A gentle grin formed on his lips. Waking up in Alex's bed was a reminder that last night hadn't been just another dream. He didn't want to disturb his friend, so he sat up as quietly as he could in the bed, but realized that he had failed when Alex stopped playing and turned around to face him.

They didn't feel the need to say anything. Instead, Alex sat his guitar down on the floor and slowly scooted up to Jack's side. He allowed his fingers to lightly push Jack back so that his body was flat on the bed, and with a smirk, he laid his head down on his boney shoulder.

"Good morning," Jack whispered, running his long, rough fingers through Alex's messy hair.

"Good morning," Alex whispered back with a smile. It amazed him to think that only yesterday, he would have found a moment like this to be strange with Jack, but after the closeness he felt to the younger boy last night, it was almost natural. "I thought you were going to sleep all day."

"What can I say? You wore me out last night."

"Like you didn't do the same to me," Alex snorted, shaking his head against Jack's shoulder.

Once again, silence swallowed them. Jack, despite how wonderful it was to have Alex lay in his arms, was desperately trying to figure out if he and Alex had become more than friends over night. Before Jack had admitted his feelings to Alex, it would seem like nothing for the two of them to curl up together, but now with Alex resting on his thin body, knowing perfectly well that Jack saw him as more than a friend, he couldn't help but wonder. Was this the start of something more, or was he just going to keep running in circles, trying to catch the boy that everyone wanted for themselves?

He was going to ask- Just bluntly put it out there so Alex could find no way around the question, but before his lips would part far enough for the words to come out, Alex's phone began to buzz from the night stand. Jack grunted to himself, feeling Alex's weight slowly come off of his shoulder.

"Hello?"

"Hey Alex," a girly voice flew through the phone. "I've been waiting on you to call."

"Oh, right," Alex chuckled softly. He shot a glance to Jack, who seemed hurt, and held up a finger. "Sorry 'bout that."

Jack knew the moment Alex climbed off the bed that the voice he heard belonged to Lisa. He didn't want to dislike Lisa, because she was a great girl, but she was the girl that was holding Alex back from giving himself to Jack entirely.. And he knew, the moment Alex left the room, that his question would never be answered now. Jack was still just Jack, and Lisa was the girl that Alex really liked.

"Hey, dude," Alex quickly ran back in the room. His cheeks were a light shade of pink, and he refused to meet Jack's gaze. "I'm gonna run through the shower. You should call Zack and Rian and see what they're doing today."

"Let me guess," Jack sighed, proping himself up with his elbows. "You've got a date?"

"Yeah.. Something like that."

"Well. Doesn't that just totally suck."

"Look, Jack-"
"Just go, Al. You don't want to keep Lisa waiting."

"No," Alex whispered. Jack's voice was cold, and it broke Alex's heart to know that Jack had expected things to change between the two of them, but Alex wasn't gay. Lisa, the bubbly brunette, had brought him back into reality. The reality where Alex was a ladies man, where he didn't give a shit about who wanted him. As much as he loved his best friend, he wasn't sure he would love him as anything more than just that. "I guess I don't."

Notes

This is a really short and crappy chapter, so let me explain why:
Out of all the subscribers and random commenters, this story keeps getting rated down, which makes me sad.
If this story drops below an 8.5, it will be discontinued. Nothing personal, but if the fans keeps rating it down, it can't be that great- Right? Mucho love<3.
