Find a Reason to Feel

5

You would think a road trip of 4 hours wouldn’t be such a big deal to me. I mean, I have basically lived on a tour bus for the past 2 years. 4 hours and 20 minutes should be a cakewalk.

Nope.

Not even close.

This has to be the longest car ride I’ve ever been on. My mind hasn’t given me a break once and keeps racing with the thought of seeing Emma. What am I even doing? I don’t have a plan. My plan is to search Boston for a girl who doesn’t even look the same as she did when I knew her. The odds of me finding her are one in a million. Shit, I don’t even know if she lives here.

Focus, Jack.

Maybe if I make missing person flyers and hand them out, I can get some help. I’ll use the picture of her in my wallet even though it’s outdated. I can do this.

“In .2 miles, veer right to the Mandarin Oriental, Boston, Massachusetts.” Siri interrupts my thoughts

“Excellent.” I grin and accelerate the car.

I’m speeding well over the speed limit, but I’m .2 miles away from where I need to be. I don’t plan on slowing down any time soon.

“You have arrived.” Siri informs me.

I pull into the hotel circle and valet helps me out of my car.

“Good evening sir.” One of them greets me.

“Thanks bud.” I slap a 20 into his hand and follow the men who have already grabbed my bags.

After about 10 minutes, I’m in my hotel room. I picked the very best hotel, being as I might be here a while. My room is outstanding; Jacuzzi tub, king sized bed, flat screen, everything I could possibly want. Not to mention a clear, beautiful view of Boston.

I set my clothes in the drawers, unpacking for one of the few times in my life. I plan to spend quite a bit of time here. It’s 11:45 at night and I’m exhausted. It’s bizarre to think that two days ago, I was in Texas. Yesterday, I was in New York. Now, I’m in Boston. Normally, these types of things don’t catch my eye but I just feel like I’m chasing Emma around. Shit, I don’t know if she’s even here.

I strip my clothes off and head towards the bathroom, planning on taking a nice long bath. I turn the water on and my mind races with that one night…

“What if your mom comes home?” Emma bites her lips and looks up at me.

“My mom texted me saying she won’t be home tonight.” I respond, a little bummed out.

My mom has been spending a lot of time out of the house lately. Although most teenagers would kill for this, I wouldn’t. I love my mom more than most kids do. She’s my world. Emma understands that.

She looks sad for a brief moment, before slapping my bare butt and saying “Get in.”

I lower my naked body in the steaming water and watch as she undresses herself. It’s adorable. She’s so tiny and she has to fight with her shirt to get it off. She joins me in my moms steaming Jacuzzi tub. I wrap my arm around Emma and pull her towards me. I close my eyes and enjoy the feeling of her body next to mine.

“I can see myself doing this with you forever.” I murmur.

“Same here.” She grins.

“I’m serious though. I like this. We work so well together. I don’t have any problems with us as a couple. You hear about couples getting tired of each other, or cheating on each other. I just don’t see that happening with either of us. I love you too much to look at another girl in any way. You’re all I want and I would never do anything to screw that up.” I kiss her temple, ensuring my honesty.

“I love you so much.” She nuzzles against my shoulder. “I wouldn’t trade you for anyone or anything.”

I begin to hum softly, the only thing I can think of possibly doing. I’m beyond content with this moment. It’s perfect. Emma doesn’t realize how much I love her, or even how long I’ve been in love with her. I swear it’s like I’ve been waiting my whole life for her and now she’s here, in my arms. When I met her, I knew she was the one I’ve been waiting for. She is my other half.

She’s my Emmabear.

I come back to reality, in a lukewarm bath alone. I’m left sad, confused. She said she wouldn’t trade me for anyone or anything, but she clearly did.

I’m so tired of guessing why she left me. It’s not like she broke up with me. She flat out packed her bags and left everyone behind. I wonder if she’ll be mad that I looked for her. She contradicted herself in that letter. She said “I don’t want you to come looking for me.” But at the end, she added, “I hope to see you again, someday, somehow.” This girl, I swear.

The bath begins to cool so I step out, wrapping myself in a towel during the process. I fall on my bed, not even bothering to get dressed, and pass out.

“Thank you.” I tell the man as he hands me the flyers I had made.

“No problem sir. Good luck.” He smiles at me.

I leave the store and start handing out flyers to anyone and everyone. The flyers have a picture of Emma, and a description of who she is now. Hopefully, someone will know something.

“Aren’t you Jack Barakat?” A girl stops me as I hand her a flyer.

“Yeah, I am actually.” I smile at her.

“I’m Jenny.” She grins and hugs me. She seems to be about 20. “It’s nice to meet you. My friends love your music. I do too.”

“Good stuff.” I laugh. “So have you seen this girl?”

“Sounds like Remembering Sunday.” She notes.

I think for a moment. “Actually, yeah. That’s pretty spot on. She’s been running through my dreams every night for 3 years now.”

“Damn. You must have it pretty bad.” Jenny frowns. “Why don’t you have a concert here and get the word out? You can have people hand out flyers at the door this way you can get the word out. There has to be someone who knows where she is.”

“Jenny you’re my savior.” I hug her tightly. Why the hell didn’t I think of that?

“I know what it’s like to lose the one you love.” She shrugs. “Mine actually passed away though. Drunk driving.”

“I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine your pain.” I sigh.

“I can’t imagine yours. I knew where my love went at least. Yours is just…gone, but yet still here. You’ll find her. I’ll keep my eye out on your Twitter for that concert.” She gives me a final hug. “Good luck Jack. I’ll see you around.”

“Thanks again Jenny. You’re amazing.” I hug her back.

She walks away and I pull out my phone, calling Alex.

“Yo.” He answers on the third ring.

“Get the boys together and get out here now.” I order.

“YOU FOUND HER?” Alex yells.

“Easy man. No I didn’t. I just met some chick Jenny and she told me we should have a concert out here and ask the audience if they’ve seen her.” I explain. “I want to do it tonight. Do you think we can?”

“Anything for Emma. You know that man.” Alex assures me. “I’m still with Rian and I’ll give Zack a call. We’ll get the next flight out there. Call Flyzik and get him to book us a gig.”

“I love you Alex. Thank you.” My eyes begin to tear up, touched by the fact that he cares as much as I do.

“Love you too man. Call Flyzik now!” He hangs up.

We’re coming after you Emma. Get ready.
