I twirled my claddagh engagement ring around my finger as I waited for the rest of the house to be ready to leave. I had on my newest skirt, a red a-line with black detailing along the bottom, my black crop tank top and wicked black heels. I may be pregnant, but I wasn't far enough along not to be hot. Emily ran down the stairs in a simple creme dress and converse, looking respectable but still her age. Alex had on a simple suit and tie and Ley finally emerged with her black beaded dress and sandals. The two girls looked beautiful and gave them both a hug, commenting that we looked like we were heading for a wedding, not a court trial. Alex drove us to the courthouse and we arrived just on time. As key witnesses all four of us were shuffled to the front of the room and shown our seats. We all rose for the judge and the usual court proceedings went by. We were each called to repeat our statements that we had given the other day and attest to how the girls needed to be somewhere other than at the family home with their deranged and cultist mother. Emily cried, telling of how her mother restricted them from having normal lives and eating certain foods because it was unhealthy. I didn't think it was that bad until she explained the weeks she would refuse to feed them dinner so she could starve the demons and sin out of them. The judge ruled that their mother was guilty of criminal neglect to minors and ruled her to take a term in a mental prison.
"As for the two girls, Emily and Ashley Thorpe, they will be taken into the Care of Baltimore Children's Home for the time being before more suitable accommodation can be found." Shit, I had forgot to speak to the lawyer about them staying with us. No, they can't take them from me. I loved those girls like they were my sisters and in the short time I had known them I had grown so close to them. It tore a thread from the stitches in my heart as I heard those words. The reality that they might be gone within the hour tortured me. My insides twisted and I was scared to lose them.
"I object!" Alex shot from his seat with his hand in the air. I stared at him, shocked. What the hell was he doing?
"Excuse me?" The judge looked baffled and reached up to scratch his head. A witness against the defence objecting to the ruling? It was an odd occurrence.
"I object to the two girls going into care." Alex ran his fingers through his fringe and sighed, looking across the aisle to Emily and Ley. "I wish to ask the court to keep them on with us, as we were their temporary guardians leading up to this case." The judge looked between Alex and the social worker next to the girls. His confused expression settled as he mused over what had been said.
"Do you wish to take on the guardian role permanently?" Alex nodded and I rose to my feet to stand beside him. Alex entwined his fingers with mine as we smiled at each other. We could be parents to the two girls. The social worker looked to the judge and nodded, deeming us suitable to care for the two girls. "I have no objection. Gale Thorpe, you are sentenced to two years in the sate asylum, no parole." A blood curdling scream erupted from where the girls mother sat and a security guard grabbed her arms as she tried to reach for Emily. "You're sentence may be extended depending on the view of your carers. After which you will be sentenced to one year imprisonment for criminal neglect. Emily and Ashley Thorpe are charged to the care of their guardians Caroline Fuentes and Alexander Gaskarth permanently." The gavel went down on the desk and Ley smiled at me from across the aisle. "Court dismissed." Gale wailed as they dragged her, kicking and screaming, out of the room. She screamed out for the two girls who covered their ears and huddled in their seats until the guards had removed er from the room and closed the door. Ley and Emily ran to hug us and I kissed Alex thank-you. I never would have had the courage to do that. To stand up and object a court ruling? That was what I loved about Alex. His bravery.
"I love you!" Ley screamed as we walked up to the house after Alex and I had signed the papers. We were officially their permanent guardians. "This is going to be great!" Emily ran ad stood on the couch and started screaming the lyrics to In the End with Ley.
"IN THE END, AS WE FADE INTO THE NIGHT!" I joined in. "WHO WILL TELL THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE?" Alex pulled me from where I was standing on the couch with Emily and started to sing.
"In the end, as my souls laid to rest what is left of my body?"
"Or am I just a shell?" We stared at Ley for a moment, taking in the fact that her voice was amazing. "And I have fought, And with flesh and blood I commanded an army. Through it all
I have given my home for a moment of glory!" We all jumped around the living room and Alex streamed the song from his phone through the speakers that dotted the house.
"In the end!" I sung. "As we fade into the night"
"Oh whoa oh oh!" Alex, Emily and Ley somehow broke into an unintetional three part harmony and we all smile.
"Who will tell the story of your life"
"Oh whoa oh oh"
"And who will remember your last goodbye?"
"Oh whoa oh oh!"
"Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid to die!" We all fell on the floor in fits of laughter and screamed along to the rest of the song. I had been a while since I had had such a lot of fun.
Alex called up a friend and got the number for a private tutor so the girls didn't have to jump into a new school and we could take them on tour. "Thank you so much!" Alex and I laughed as the girls did a victory dance at the bottom of the stairs before running up to their rooms. Alex put a hand over my stomach as he kissed me and sparks flew. I loved this man, and if he would stay would me forever nothing could make me unhappy. Nothing at all.

This story is so good! OMG. I just found it and started reading it yesterday, and haven't stopped. I just caught up with all of the updates you have of it and really love it.
It's a very dark fan fic. Specifically with the first half, honestly one of the darkest I've read actually... like with that curse of everything happening on Sundays? Man... and you just kind of kept it up too. It was just very dark, and sad, but... different. And I really like that about this.
The second half seems to be deviating from that a little bit, but I sensed that coming back with the babies thing. I mean, not that I want anything to happen, but I almost feel you had something bad happening planned with the pregnancy. Perhaps not, perhaps that was just to raise some of the tone as opposed to keeping it happy go lucky, who knows. But I found it interesting how you did that.
I'm glad that Alex and Carrie finally got together, with the first part of this I was just screaming GET TOGETHER until they finally did. lol. And I was happy. :)
I found it a bit odd how they just took in those fans though. On a realistic writing level, the oddity of this story was the curse thing. But adding the fans thing in too, it just... it didn't really fit. Especially considering legalities and all of that. I feel like it was a little too easy that they gained guardianship.
But overall, I have enjoyed Alex and Carrie's love story. I'm sad to see it was never finished, so I'm leaving this comment to let you know if you ever do choose to finish it, I will be here to read, for sure. I'd love to see how it all ends for these two. Even if it's just a final chapter wrap up or something; I understand what it's like losing inspiration.
But yeah, sorry if this comment sounded harsh at all, but just wanted to leave my honest thoughts. I think you're a truly great writer, though, and hope you have at least kept up with it in your free time. :)
