Terrible Things

Start Again

I lay on my bunk, staring at the ceiling. My life might as well end. I had utterly convinced the one person on this earth I was made to be with that I had no feelings for them and wanted nothing to do with them. Vic crouched next to me and stroked the hair off my face.
“Come on Carr.” His voice was soft. “Get out of bed, get something to eat.” I shook my head. Jaime jumped around the corner and shoved his laptop onto my chest.
“Cheer up buttercup!” He sung as he pointed to the pictures of Alex leaving a hotel. “He didn't actually love you that much. Look, he moved on quick. You can stop wallowing about hurting him now!” I stared at the screen, scrolling through image after image of Alex and a random chick. Vic slapped Jaime and pushed him out of the hallway and into the kitchen. Despite his efforts to whisper their voices still rang through.
“She wasn't worried about hurting him dip shit. You total idiot.” Vic's tone was angry and for once in his life Jaime didn't make a peep. “Carrie was totally in love with that Gaskarth kid and only told him to piss off because one of his friends told her she was causing him pain because she reminded him of his dead ex.” Jaime remained silent and I could hear Vic pouring Whiskey into a glass as I shut the laptop screen. “The kids gone on a last ditch effort to fuck a fan and get over her and you've shoved it in her face.”
“Well he couldn't fucking have her if he wanted her.” Jaime chipped in defensively. “Carrie's mine. She has been since forever.”
“Jaime! Carrie's messed around with you. You've never actually been in a relationship. You know it.” The bus door slammed and Vic reappeared by my side, taking the laptop from my chest. “Don't worry about it, Chicka. You'll be fine.” I pulled my extra pillow over my face and groaned. Vic pushed me over and snuggled in beside me. His arms were warm and comforting and I pressed my back against him. He kissed my forehead and I leant into his chest, falling asleep for the first time in days almost instantly.

I fell out of my bunk and onto the floor of the bus feeling the best I had since I saw Alex again for the first time. “Shit” I murmured as I picked myself and waddled into the kitchen. The windows were black and I could only see blurs of lights outside. “How long have I been asleep?” I asked Mike who was cooking some concoction in the kitchen. He looked up from the frying pan and laughed.
“About forty hours.” What?
“I've been asleep for HOW LONG!?” Mike shrugged and slid an omelette onto a plate and handed it to me. Upon the sight of the food my stomach growled viciously and I sat down to gobble it up, not even bothering to ask what strange ingredients Mike had added. It was delicious, or maybe it was just my body’s need for vast amounts of sustenance, and Mike slid another onto the plate.
“It's just cheese, mushroom and bacon. I promise I didn't put anything weird in this one.” Mike reassured me after seeing my expression.
“Thank you,” I blurted out between mouthfuls. “I really need food, I had no idea how hungry I was.” I chucked the plate into the sink and pulled a carton of juice out of the fridge. I didn't even bother with a glass and Mike laughed about how I spent far too much time with men and I was losing my lady like sensibilities. We laughed together for a while before the Vic and Tony climbed on and greeted me with hugs.
“What's up Sleeping Beauty?” Vic giggled as he kissed my forehead. “Prince Charming's black eye is still as dark as night. Nice job Tony.” The boys high-fived and cheered and I rolled my eyes as I sunk back into my seat. I would in no way be able to sleep any time soon and the clock showed nine thirty. I hoped the boys planned on clubbing tonight else I would be bored out of my mind. And as if on cue, Vic jumped up and ordered me to change, we were going to drink our hearts out and do stupid shit because we didn't have a set tomorrow.

“It's not hard at all.” I shouted to the girl sitting next to me in the club as I answered her questions about life on the road. “I know the boys really well and they're super easy to get along with.”
“Isn't it difficult being the only girl?”
“Oh hell yes, but they all respect it and stay out of my way if I need them too.” I flicked my hair off my shoulder. “It's like having four super immature older brothers.” The girl laughed and the bartender slid us another cocktail. “Would you like to meet them?” I said as I stood and grabbed my drink. From the conversation I had picked up that the random was a huge Pierce The Veil fan and I figured, why not? No harm could surely come of introducing her. I asked her who was her favourite and instead of the usual “Vic, oh he's so perfect” I got back a resounding Jaime. Awesome, maybe they could hook up and I wouldn't have to dodge Jaime's flirting any more. Vic spotted us coming and excused himself and the band from the crows of girls which had accumulated.
“Guys, this is...” Shit. I didn't know her name.
“Melody. My name's Melody.” Jaime's face lit up. The Little Mermaid. Oh god, here we go.
“Legit! Oh my god, I'm Jaime?” HE held out his hand for her to take. “Can I buy you a drink?” The rest of the band didn't get a look in as Jaime dragged the girl back to the bar we had just came from.
“Excellent match making, Carrie.” Tony laughed. “That should keep him off your back.” I nodded and smiled as I took a sip of my drink. It was about time Jaime gave up on me and moved on. I was getting sick of dodging all the pick up lines and the hinting at sex. It was fine to begin with and I didn't mind for a while, but eventually it got tiring. Vic took my spare hand and directed me to meet some guys there who were also playing at Warped.
“Carrie this is Ronnie, Max and Robert. They're in a band called Escape The Fate.” I nodded and put on an award winning 'glad to meet you' smile. “Ronnie's lead, Robert's drums and Max plays bass.” Oh, bass players. Alex was the exception for my attraction to all things bass player. I scooted into the booth next to Max and the conversation flowed easily, occasionally receiving input from Ronnie, Robert or Vic. Mike and buggered off to try pick up chicks and Tony was no where to be seen.
“So, Vic tells us you sing.” Max leant in and took a sip of his whiskey.
“Yeah, sometimes. I do some duets with Vic when the recording artists aren't with us.” I shrugged. I didn't think it was a big deal.
“Did you ever consider starting your own band?” Max brushed his hair from his eyes. “I know quite a few people were talking after your performances so far a t Warped.” My own band?
“I hadn't even considered it to be honest.” It was true, the though of being in my own band had never once crossed my mind.
“You can't just be known as the Fuentes' sister forever you know.” And with that Max stood and excused himself from the table and disappeared into the crowd.

“He's right you know.” Vic leant across the table. “You should branch out. Find some musicians and start writing for yourself. We can't keep taking your songs.” I was shocked. No way, I couldn't front a band and I told Vic as much. He laughed at me and grabbed my hand. “Every time you perform with us the crowd goes mad. You're great on stage. And I'm sure enough of our friends will know musicians who aren't established yet that you'll get along with. It's a great idea.” I smiled as the though of recording my own songs grew on me. I nodded and Vic cheered as he fisted the air. Oh god, I had given him a mission. Vic's missions didn't usually end well.

Notes

This story is so good! OMG. I just found it and started reading it yesterday, and haven't stopped. I just caught up with all of the updates you have of it and really love it.
It's a very dark fan fic. Specifically with the first half, honestly one of the darkest I've read actually... like with that curse of everything happening on Sundays? Man... and you just kind of kept it up too. It was just very dark, and sad, but... different. And I really like that about this.
The second half seems to be deviating from that a little bit, but I sensed that coming back with the babies thing. I mean, not that I want anything to happen, but I almost feel you had something bad happening planned with the pregnancy. Perhaps not, perhaps that was just to raise some of the tone as opposed to keeping it happy go lucky, who knows. But I found it interesting how you did that.
I'm glad that Alex and Carrie finally got together, with the first part of this I was just screaming GET TOGETHER until they finally did. lol. And I was happy. :)
I found it a bit odd how they just took in those fans though. On a realistic writing level, the oddity of this story was the curse thing. But adding the fans thing in too, it just... it didn't really fit. Especially considering legalities and all of that. I feel like it was a little too easy that they gained guardianship.
But overall, I have enjoyed Alex and Carrie's love story. I'm sad to see it was never finished, so I'm leaving this comment to let you know if you ever do choose to finish it, I will be here to read, for sure. I'd love to see how it all ends for these two. Even if it's just a final chapter wrap up or something; I understand what it's like losing inspiration.
But yeah, sorry if this comment sounded harsh at all, but just wanted to leave my honest thoughts. I think you're a truly great writer, though, and hope you have at least kept up with it in your free time. :)
