I'm Gonna Break Down These Walls
Nice to Meet You
The late August sun was sweltering throughout the whole campus as I walked to the sophomore boy's dorm. The few breezes that cascaded through the wind brought only more humidity as the sweat beaded on my forehead. I pulled out my map of the school. Where the hell am I supposed to be going? I thought that the dorms were in the northeast corner of the campus. Or maybe southeast? I don't know. I began to trudge to the other side of the campus until I found what I was looking for. The sign above the door read Rolling Rivers Hall in a fancy font. Geez they really overplay the whole nature theme I thought to myself as I entered through the large double doors and into the building. I was greeted by a large flight of stairs. I groaned as i realized that I was on the fourth floor of the dorm. I searched everywhere downstairs for an elevator, but I couldn't find one. I trudged up the stairs with even more sweat pouring from my brow. I found my room number, located my key, and opened the door. I was greeted by a Mexican kid with very spikey hair who was unloading stuff from a box into the room.
"Hi," he said wiping his brow.
"Hey," I replied.
"Nice to meet you. My name's Jaime Preciado," He said extending his hand out.
"Pleasure to meet you too. My name's Alex Gaskarth," I said as I grabbed hold of his hand and shook it.
"I hope you don't mind but I brought my bass to school. If you don't want me to practice while you're around I understand fully," he said looking a little nervous.
"Nah man, it's cool." I stated reassuringly. "I hope youdon't mind the fact that I brought my guitar."
"Really? That's awesome!" He looked excited. "Maybe we can jam sometime."
"I'd love that!" I said looking equally excited.
I was nervous about the whole roommate topic. I was scared I would get some crazy party animal or some druggie who would do lines of cocaine on my bed when I was gone as my roommate, but this guy seemed really cool. It helps a lot that we have a similar interest: music.
"Anyways, I'm gonna take a look around this place. You wanna join me?" I asked.
"I'd love to but I've still got a lot of unpacking to do. Don't take offense or anything."
"Nah I wouldn't be offended by anything like that," I told him.
"Kay then, see you around," He said, waving to me.
"See ya," I said, waving back.
"Hi," he said wiping his brow.
