I'm Gonna Break Down These Walls

Smile Like You Don't Give A Damn About the Consequences

I was excited. I was really excited. I was so excited to see my roommate, and one of my best friends, playing a gig at a party.

I'll be 100% with you. I never bothered to listen to their demo CD. It's not that I didn't want to, it's just the fact that I didn't have the time. So I didn't know how the performance would go down. Turns out, it didn't go so great. They started with a song I hadn't heard before called "Bulletproof Love" that was a mild hit with the crowd as it was something they could dance to. I loved the song. It was catchy and fun, but I was sober so I actually listened to the lyrics. Holy shit it was dark. It's dark and twisted lyrics made me love the song even more. It's just a contradiction.

The next song wasn't such a popular one. Vic introduced the song by saying "This is a new one we've been working on, and I've got to say it's one of our best." I was excited.
"It's called King For A Day," he finished. A chilling guitar riff started the song until Vic's vocals kicked in. That's when the crowd lost interest.

Vic was screaming about some pretty dark stuff causing the partygoers to boo. I was offended by this. It was a great up tempo song with fast guitars and creative screams. Vic was an amazing screamer. It was high pitched but not too screechy and was extremely original. The song finished and I heard one thing that made me angry.
"Emo freaks!" Someone shouted from the crowd. How can someone be so close minded about music?

There was a band huddle where the members were obviously rearranging the set to fit songs with no screaming. Finally, the last song came on.
"This one's called Kissing in Cars," Vic introduced. "It's a slow song, so dance with someone you love."
I didn't dance with anyone, but watched couples swaying with each other. At last the set was over. I walked towards Cindy.
"Let's ditch this place," I suggested. She nodded.

As we walked back towards campus, we discussed the set. She liked all the songs they played. We finally reached my dorm.
"Jaime's gonna be gone for a little while longer. You wanna chill with me and watch some movies?" I asked her. She agreed and we picked a movie.

We decided on The Nightmare Before Christmas as we thought it was an appropriate occasion. Plus neither of us are big fans of really scary movies, so this fit perfectly.

I don't know how, but somehow we both ended up cuddling on my bed as we watched the movie. We occasionally talked about what was going on, but were mostly silent. Despite my being in a relationship, it felt so right. It was innocent enough. I couldn't help but smile.

Notes

Two fluffy Cindlex paragraphs (yes I came up with a ship name for two of my characters [no I don't give a shit[)
