“You cannot go to this party, Victoria!”

“Why not, mom? Why?!” Victoria screamed in protest.

“Because I said so,” Mrs. Hamilton said, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Give me a real reason.”

“Because!”

Victoria was through with this idiotic argument. She gave her mom a stern look before running up to her room. She needed to go to this party. These were the last days of summer and she didn’t want to be that girl who stuck by herself the whole time. Plus, she wanted to be with Alex, and this was the perfect opportunity.

The day of the party went by slowly, Victoria sitting in her usual spot on her bed while trying to finish a book. Once the sky had turned dark, her yearning to see Alex only grew more. But she couldn’t, and that’s what upset her the most.

Flipping through one of the last pages of the book in her hands, a few rocks sounded at her window. Running a hand through her hair in exhaustion, she opened her window and looked down at Alex. He wore a snug tank that showed off his amazing arms and khaki shorts. She sighed as she saw him, knowing she’d have to tell him why she couldn’t go.

He cleared his throat and gestured to her with his hand. “Hamilton, Hamilton, come down from there. Come and escort me to Mr. Barakat’s affair.”

She couldn’t help but chuckle. “That was the gayest thing I’ve ever heard.”

“But it worked, right?” He lifted a brow.

She bit down on her lip. “I can’t go.”

It was hard to tell, but did she see sadness on his face? “Why?” He exclaimed.

“My parents won’t let me.”

“For what reasons?”

“None,” she muttered, looking down. “I’m sorry.”

He laughed for a second, making her a bit confused. “You’re funny, Hamilton.” He suddenly pulled himself on the window’s ledge and kneeled in front of the window sill. “But you’re going.”

“Are you deaf or something?” She furrowed her brow.

“Just sneak out,” he shrugged.

“Are you fucking nuts?”

“What? You’ve never snuck out before?”

She bit the inside of her cheek. “Not exactly.”

A lopsided grin appeared on his face. “Then allow me to be you’re first sneaky companion.”

“Alex …” She sighed, trying not to look him in the eye.

“Please?” He lifted her face to his, suddenly making her body freeze. Shit, was he attractive. “Don’t let me go alone.”

“I don’t even have nice clothes on.”

“It’s a party, not a wedding.”

She bit her lip, looking back at her bedroom door. It was just seven o’clock, meaning her parents were downstairs watching TV and would be down there until eleven. Then they would be going to sleep. It’s not like they said goodnight to her anyways …

She looked back at Alex. “Give me a sec.”

He beamed big as she stepped away from the window. She brushed through her hair a few times before she heard her window snap shut. She turned and saw Alex standing and looking around her room. “No, no, no. You can’t be in here.” She pointed the hairbrush at him.

“Calm down, your parents aren’t going to come up.” He waved the issue away with his hand.

“Well, I have to change.”

“And?”

She grabbed a clean shirt from her closet. “That means to not look.”

He puts his hands up in defense as Victoria looked back at her mirror. She lifted her shirt up a little and felt eyes on her. She glanced back at Alex flickering his eyes from her to a random magazine on her desk. “TURN AROUND!” She exclaimed, feeling self-conscious.

He laughed and finally turned. As soon as she was done, she tapped his shoulder, saying, “Let’s go, peeper.”
