Grow Up Jack

I hear my phone ring and I see that it's Sarah calling me. "What do you want Sarah," I snap. I haven't spoken to her since our fight a few days ago. Adison belongs with me, her father, I know it. "Since you want to prove that Adison belongs with you, lets do it." "What do you mean?" "I mean we take it to court." It feels my heart just dropped into my stomach. "What." "You want to see who she really belongs with, then we let a judge decide, let the law decide who Adison should stay with." I stare at the wall in front of me, I can't think straight. "Jack." "Y-yeah, we'll take it to court." "Good, because I already have the date set." "When is it?" "In two days." "Okay. Two days." "Jack you need to make a promise to me." "And what's that." "That if I win, you won't try to be with Adison anymore." "And what if I win." "Jack." I close my eyes and hold my head with my free hand. "Fine. I promise." "Good." Sarah hangs up and I drop my phone onto the floor.

"Court!?," Alex yells. "Yeah." "Jack you do realize what she's doing!" "Yeah. She wants to try to have full custody of Adison." "You can't let her win." "How can I Alex!? I only been in Adison's life for a few months, and I failed at being a parent when she got her allergic reaction." "But Sarah, she-" "Sarah knows what she did wrong. But all the judge is going to hear that I'm a rock star dad who didn't know he had a kid and has only known about her for a few months." "That's when you say you never knew about her." "Sarah can twist the story around. Saying I knew about Adison all these years, but neglected to help out. That I pushed Alli away once she told she was pregnant." Alex goes quiet and sits down. He knows I'm right. Sarah will do anything to keep Adison away from me.

"There has to be a way for you to win this," Alex whispers. "I don't think there is a way Alex." "Sarah is a bitch for doing this to you and Adison." "Alex don't call her that." "Alex you didn't hear what she told me. She promised Alli this one thing to her, and she broke it. She feels guilty betraying Alli." "I can't believe Alli wanted you to never know about Adison..." "I understand her reasons though.. She didn't want me to drop my dreams for a child.. She wanted me to go for my dreams.." I close my eyes, the last time I saw Alli was he day she pushed me out of her life. The only girl I ever loved. "I'll be back in a day." "Where are you going?" "Just someplace I feel like is time to visit."

I look around the area, the guy said its in the fifth row. I make way through the area, the wind blowing against me. I stuff my free hand into my hoodie pocket and keep walking. I finally reach it and stare down at it. "H-hi Alli." I stare down at Alli's grave marker, her named engraved on the marble, the year she was born to the year she died. The words saying "A daughter and a loving mother." I feel myself slowly starting to cry as I continued to stare. "I've missed you. I've missed you since the day you left my life. I never forgot about you." I wipe my tears and close my eyes. "Adison is beautiful, Alli. She looks just like us, like you. She has my eyes and my hyper personality." I smile to myself and open my eyes. "She's wonderful Alli, she's changed me for the better. I'm glad she came into my life, I didn't realize I was missing something from my life until she came." I look at the bouquet of daises in my hand, Alli's favorite flower.

"I got these for you." I lay down the bouquet by the marker and stand up straight. "I still love you Alli. Your the only girl I ever loved. And no girl will make me feel how I felt with you." I take a deep breath and wipe my tears again. "I promise I'll do the best for Adison. I forever promise that to you. I love her Alli. And I love you." I walk off, still slowly crying. Tomorrow is when I go in court, if the best for Adison is to be with Sarah and not me, then I have done what I promised to Alli.
