Mixtape of Their Favorite Band

Too Much of You is Never Enough

Adelaide’s Perspective

Saturday.

Yesterday I met Jack, Rian, Zack, and Alex of All Time Low.

Last night, after Dallas drove me home, I pinned the autographs to my wall around the picture of Jack. Then I uploaded the photos I got with the band to Shutterfly and bought copies of them. I can’t wait for the mailman to drop them off.

When I woke up this morning, I decided to dig through the pile of thingamabobs in my closet and found a couple of ATL cds that Dallas gave me back in middle school. I never opened them, but I guess today was as good as any to put them to use. Now I’m reclining on my bed listening to The Beach blaring from my boom box’s speakers.

I am so bored. I keep playing with my phone wondering if I should text Jack or if I should wait until he texts me first.

Jack. He held my hand and put a little heart next to his name in my phone.

I shake my head and pick up my phone to send a text to him. Heyy. What’s up?

After a few minutes, he replies, and I freak out a bit. “Calm down. It’s okay. You can do this.” I huff and prepare myself. I open his text: Just waking up. You?

I laugh quietly and check the time. Really? It’s 2 pm.

It’s Saturday. What did you expect?

~~~~~~~~~~
We text for a while, but then something (or someone) interrupts.
My door flies open, revealing none other than Dallas, who exclaims, “Hold the phone, Dallas is home!”
I laugh, “Yay! Superhero Dallas has come to save the day from invisible giant bunnies! The town can sleep in peace.”
She snorts and makes herself comfortable on my bed, “What are you talking about? I’m saving the whole world tonight.”
I roll my eyes, “Right.” I quickly tell Jack that I’ll text him later and then slip my phone under my pillow. I focus my attention to Dallas and say, “So, what brings you here all of a sudden? Good things, I hope.”
She shrugs, “Nothing. Just wanted to hang with you.” She picks up the cd cases on my bed and says, “So you finally decided to open them, I see.” She smirks.
“Yeah, I found them this morning.” I shrug.
“So, have you texted the guys yet?” she asks suddenly.
I smile, “Just Jack. Why? Have you?”
“Yeah! All morning!” She exclaims.
“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe we have their phone numbers.” I gush.
“I know! Isn’t it awesome?”
I nod. “Hey, wanna get something to eat?”
“Sure.” She follows me out of my room and down the hall.
~~~~~~~~~~

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. Dallas went home well after dark, leaving me with nothing to do except homework and bedtime rituals.

Once those were out of the way, I retrieve my phone from under my pillow and check my messages. I had two from Jack. The first one was in response to my message when Dallas came over, and the other was from about an hour ago. Hey, when you get this, call me.

“Weird. I wonder what he wants…”

Figuring that it’s just because talking is more efficient than texting, I call him and press the phone to my ear.

It rings three times before he answers, “Hello?”

I inhale sharply and my heart beat races. I take a deep breath to calm myself down. “It’s just Jack Barakat, a human like me. You can do this, Adelaide.”

“Adelaide? Are you there?”

It’s now or never. “Yeah, I’m here Jack. What’s up?”

“Nothing, really. Just chilling in bed, watching the guys playing video games.”

“Same here, just without the video games.”

After a few long moments of silence, Jack says, “Do you like Mickey Mouse?”

“What? Oh, yeah, I guess. Why?”

“No reason. Matt’s over here ranting about him again.”

“Who’s Matt?”

“Matt Flyzik, our manager. He’s practically in love with Mickey Mouse.” He laughs.

I smile, “Oh okay.”

“I’m surprised you didn’t know that.”

“Really? What makes you say that?”

“Oh, I just thought all our fans knew about Flyzik. But I guess not.”

“I don’t actually know all that much about you guys. I only started listening to you guys about a week and a half ago.”

“Ah, that explains it. Hey I have an idea.”

“Wanna let me in on it?”

“Of course! We should hang out sometime and we could get to know each other. What do you think?”

I smile and my heart skips a beat, “S-sure. When and where?”

“How about- No thanks, I’m on the phone.” Pause. “Adelaide. Hey! Give that back!”

Then I hear a different voice speaking in the phone, “Hey Adelaide. What’s up?” Alex asks.

“Just talking to Jack. You?”

“He asked you to come over, right?” He sounds out of breath.

“Uh, yeah. To get to know you guys. Are you okay?”

“Oh yeah, I’m fine. Let go, Jack! I’ll text you the address later.” His voice becomes distant as he adds, “Bring Dallas!”

“Hey I’m back. I’m sorry about that. He stole my phone and ran.” Jack was just as breathless as Alex.

“So you chased after him, I’m guessing?”

“Naturally.”

I smile at him.

“So I guess Alex is sending you the where, and it’s up to you for the when. Just pop in sometime tomorrow. I’m inviting the extended band family too.”

I laugh, “Awesome. I can’t wait to see you and whoever else you’re bringing for the meet and greet.”

~~~~~~~~~~
After that, Jack and I talk for a few more hours, and eventually get tired and say goodnight.
As soon as I hang up with him, I call Dallas to tell her the good news. And once she hears it, she screams. Really loudly too. I have to pull the phone away from my ear until she settles down.
“I’m so proud of you, Jell-o! You single-handedly got us a double date with All Time Low and the crew! You don’t know how much I love you right now.” She gushes.
I laugh, “I would hope so! Alex specifically asked me to bring you, too.”
She screams again.
“Oh my gosh, if you keep that up, you’re gonna blow my eardrums.”
“Sorry hun. But, are you serious?! I want details, now, woman! Spill!”
I laugh and tell her what happened. “So just come and get me whenever you want.”
“No doubt! Prepare for a rude awakening tomorrow!”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way, Dally.”
“Good. Now. I must prepare! Bye Addy!”
“Night Dally.”
I hang up the phone and collapse on my bed. “Tomorrow should be fun.” I fall asleep with a smile on my face.
Notes
Title cred: Holly (Would You Turn Me On?) - ATL
Well, I'm sad to say that this is more or less a filler chapter. But my partner gets to write the next one. No thanks to gamble with desire. for being patient, but I give her props for her ample enthusiasm. :D
