You're Sure as Hell Too Good to Let Them Hold You Down

Four

Alex watched as she took to the stage after her band. He saw her knuckles were white as she clutched to her guitar. He could tell from the look in her eyes as she looked back towards Mason that she was nervous; he had felt like her once before, but a long time ago it felt like to him.

"So be honest with me Gaskarth," Mason came over to Alex once Kenzie kicked off her set, "Are you are going to seriously take Kenzie out for dinner?"

"Yes I am seriously taking her out for dinner," Alex replied, "I want to make up for being an ass to her. I thought everything over and found I was in the wrong with her."

"If you end up hurting her, I'll hurt you," Mason threatened, "Kenzie's been through enough hurt and pain and I don't need you adding to that."
Alex fixed his tie again while he was getting ready for the nice dinner he had planned for Kenzie. He picked to wear a white button down shirt, black skinny jeans, nice black boots, and a black skinny tie. He ruffled his hair to make sure it looked just right.

"You look super nervous," Zack, the quiet bassist of the group, pointed out as Alex finally came out of the bathroom.

"He better be since he's taking my cousin out on the town," Matt replied for Alex, "If you screw this up, it won't just be Mason coming after you, Alex. I'll be joining in on kicking your ass."

Alex knew that Matt was close with Kenzie and Mason. They actually grew up together in Philadelphia before Mason and Kenzie's family moved to the mid-west when Kenzie was in middle school and Mason and Matt were both in high school. So Alex knew all too well how much shit he'd be in if he fucked this up.

"I won't screw it up, Matt," Alex defended himself, "I actually kind of like her and I think it's sweet that I'm an inspiration to her. I want to help her make it in this business as best as I can."
Alex and Kenzie arrived to the restaurant, Kenzie wore a simple grey skater dress with a black cardigan to cover her arms, black opaque tights, and a pair of black suede pumps that made her stand eye level with Alex. When Alex had picked her up from her dressing room, Kenzie was about to opt for flats, but Alex changed her mind into the pumps.

"You know," Alex spoke up once their server left to fill their drink orders, "I think that you being so tall is actually rather unique. You stand out from the crowd, making people pay attention to you. Your bullies were jealous of your potential and tried to ruin it. They only made you stronger and better."

"Are you trying to charm your way into my pants, Alex," Kenzie asked, half teasing and half serious.

"No," he replied honestly, "I'm just being who I really am. I'm very charming and sweet behind my asshole mask. I like to keep my sweet and charming nature behind closed doors now a days since my fame has gotten so big over the years. It's protected me from making terrible mistakes with my fame."

"Well I know I'm going to stay the same," Kenzie responded proudly, "I am not going to let the fame change me into someone I'm not. I refuse to wear a mask."

"Kenzie, that can change in two or three years," Alex countered her statement, "If you get a good guy into your life, some fans and critics will judge your every move with that person. It can get to the point of hate and disrespect towards that person. It ruined a relationship I had with my old girlfriend from high school. We ended up as just friends it got so bad with fans judging her and hating on her, and I did little to help her."

"Then I have to pose this situation," Kenzie reasoned, "If you and I were to hook up and end up as an exclusive couple, would you defend me or leave me to the wolves?"

"I'd defend you," Alex replied honestly, "You are a sweet girl. You this energy and fire in your eyes; a desire to conquer the world and make a name for yourself. I would never want my fans or any critics to tear you down and put out that fire."

"Alex," Kenzie grabbed his left hand, letting her finger idly trace his rose tattoo, "I really like you and I want to see something change between us. I want peace. I want us to get along. I want to make a friend. I haven't had very many in my life, most I've lost because they weren't true friends I could count on. I don't want you to just see me as a fling for the tour. I want something real that I can write a song about that I'm proud to say I wrote that and I'm happy about it."

"Then when the time is right, be prepared to write that song," Alex replied, "I'll prove to you that I want the same thing you do. I want something that's real and worth fighting for. I want to prove to you that I might be that guy. I just need time to get to know you first."

"So you do like me," Kenzie smiled, blushing a little.

"I do, but I'm not entirely ready to make this exclusive," he replied, "But if you prove to amaze me and make my heart race by date three, I will make a decision that will change our lives."
