Damned If I Do Ya

Breaking the News

"Uh, yeah, that-" I forced myself to hold in my laughter as I swatted away Alex's hand. "That sounds great. See you then-" I slid off of my chair and moved to the center of the room, so Alex couldn't mess with me anymore. "Okay, bye."

Hanging up the phone, I rolled my eyes at my best friend. He had a spoon hanging out of his mouth and milk running down his cheek. Gotta love afternoon's when everone else if functioning and Alex is barely awake. I chuckled at him and shoved my phone in my pocket, moving to the kitchen to grab another cup of coffee, since said friend had made a fresh pot.

"This isn't fair," Alex groaned, pulling the spoon out of his mouth and tossing it into his bowl. "They're just going to tell me I've gotten fat!"

"Who's going to tell you that?"

A smile came to my lips as Ember entered the room. She planted a kiss on my chest as she walked past me, going to make herself a fresh cup of coffee as well.

"Evil, evil people."

"They're not evil," I sighed, shaking my head as I turned to Ember. "I called and set up another fitting for our suits. I figured since it's been so long, we might as well make sure they don't need any changes. Playing shows every night can make some of us lose weight, while drinking so fucking much can make the other gain it."

Alex grumbled at my comment and rolled his eyes. Ember giggled at the sight and nodded her head, approving my actions. We both knew we had to start focusing on the wedding again, it was just hard while we were away from home. On our days off, we wanted to relax and spend time together, and on the days we have shows, we're so busy we can barely function. Besides, I needed to invest my time in the wedding by this piont, because I was honestly getting nervous about the fact that I was going to tie myself to one person for... Well, ever.

"Maybe I should do that with the dresses," Ember considered, taking a sip of her coffee. "Just to make sure. It'd be embarrassing for someone's dress to rip."

"But that's not all I've been doing today. I ordered us some party favors," I grinned, wrapping my arm around her waist while my free hand clung to my cup. "You know, all of those cute little things you decorate the table with. And I got us special stuff for our table."

"Oh really? What'd you get?"

"You'll see," I winked, kissing her cheek quickly. "The front desk is going to hold on to them until we get home. I already called and cleared that up."

"You make me feel like a slacker," Ember pouted, moving from the kitchen area to sit down beside Alex, who was sloppily finishing his cereal. "What else do we have to do, anyway?"

"Shouldn't that be your job?" Alex rose an eyebrow, poking her in the side. "Jack, you've officially become the bride. Congrats, man."

A laugh left my throat. Ember raised her hand in flicked Alex in the ear with an innocent grin on her lips. Sometimes it's strange to think that we're not teenagers anymore, 'cause God knows we still act like it.

"We have to get those tiny pillows for the rings, if you want them. I'm not sure how you feel about them. I just kind of want a tiny pillow. Then, the rest of the decorations, but we can worry about that when we get home. We need a guest book, cameras, a cake-topper and those fancy glasses that have the matching cake-cutter thingy."

"See, you're the bride," Alex murmured, pushing past me to rid himself of the cereal left in his bowl.

"You called your mom this morning, didn't you?" Ember giggled, patting the newly empty seat beside her, which I gladly took.

"No. I Googled it."

Ember snickered and rested her head on my shoulder, her fingers loosely gripping the cup that held her coffee. I couldn't help but wonder if she was getting jitters, too. The wedding was so close, yet so far away. I was even wondering if we were going to have Bachelor/Bachelorette parties. Who were we going to stay with the night before the wedding? Were we going to get rooms? All of these small details that I never considered before were driving me nuts. I know I once said I didn't care about the small things, but now I do. Especially with everything Ember has been through lately. I want to help her as much as possible and make sure our big day is perfect for her.

Then again, I also wanted to look out for me, which meant before this tour was over we needed to announce it to the fans. Rumors had been floating around but I hadn't actually confirmed it to a crowd yet. I couldn't very well be 'single' one tour and show up married the next. The fans would flip shit.

"Hey guys, we need to head into the venue. Soundcheck and meet greets are coming up."
Alex groaned from the kitchen, complaining that he hadn't even showered yet. Go figure. As for the rest of us, we changed our clothes and I fixed my hair for the show. Ember applied some eyeliner, since she was working meet and greet for this show. Eventually, Matt pushed us all out of the door and I was forced to part from Ember as we ran over sound check.

Time passed and we were headed to the meet and greet. Thankfully, there weren't too many kids for this show, only about twenty-five of them. This was one of our smaller venues, which would make breaking the news the fans easier. I knew I'd get lots of hate for going off of the market, but I also knew I had true fans who would love and support my happiness.

We signed CD's, wrote down lyrics, posed for pictures and joked with our fans until it was time for doors to open. We waited patiently until Matt told us it was time to go on stage, in which case I gave Ember a kiss and asked her to stay close to my side of the stage.

The concert went by like they always do. Full of energy and screaming fans, while Alex and I made immature jokes and bras were thrown at my face. When finally the time came for me to speak to the fans, I pushed my guitar behind my back and gripped the mic after swallowing my nerves. Alex and I were always expected to stay open for fans to dream about, it's just how it worked.

"Hey guys!" The crowd screamed, making me chuckle. "If you have a phone or camera, you should probably record this. I have something awesome to say!"

Ten seconds later, everyone had their hands in the air and red lights were all over the place. Alex snorted and rolled his eyes, waiting for me to speak.

"So there have been some rumors about me and my certain someone. It's time to come clean," I sighed loudly, though I was smiling. "Alex and I are not getting married! I, however, am."

The kids all sucked in a sharp breath, and while some of them cheered, others were glaring at me.

"That's right. I'm getting married. A lot of you have met my bride-to-be at meet and greets, since she helps Matt out a lot. For those of you who haven't," I turned to the side of the stage, motioning for Ember to join me. She was reluctant, but agreed. I helped pull her on stage and she awkwardly smiled at the crowd. "Everyone, this is Ember! I expect you to love her as much as I do!"

Ember curled up into my side, smiling and waving at the fans, though her face had gone bright red. It amazed how loudly some of the kids cheered, while some of them still looked pissed or disappointed. It didn't matter, though. Now that word was out, a big weight was lifted off my shoulders. This was really happening. Ember and I were really getting married.

Holey shit.
