Damned If I Do Ya

Restart

Why do all the best kisses happen when someone might leave?

The answer to that is because you can show just how much you love someone, and it just might be enough to make them stay. When Jack's lips attached to my own, I already knew that it would work, but as it continued I almost felt like an idiot for thinking I could just go like that.

It didn't take long for my arms to find Jack's shoulders and made sure to return his feelings with my mouth, pressing harder against him as the time went by. When we separated, I felt out of breath, almost light headed. Moments went by as we looked at each other, I knew Jack was searching for an vocal answer, but I needed a moment. I looked over his face, really looked, and I just knew that he was serious. There wasn't anything to be afraid of here.

I moved my hands from his shoulders to around his torso and pressed my face into his chest.

“Like Hell, I'm leaving if I don't have to.” I mumbled, and felt Jack relax.

We probably would have stood like that forever if a certain puppy hadn't started barking at the door, indicating that she wanted a walk and she wanted it now. Jack and I both jumped when we heard the first shrill yap from the pooch and it ended up leaving us in a fit of giggles. For a second, things were okay until Jack seemed to remember he had the ring.

“Umm,” he said, and I just took it from him, slipping it back on.
“Let's take care of Bailey.” I said, and Jack smiled.
“I'll grab her leash.”

Once we had everything, we walked outside into the steadily chilling Baltimore air, and started down the street quietly. Bailey was the only one being noisy, sniffing around and biting at things in the grass until I would tug on her leash basically telling her 'no.' It wasn't till I felt Jack's hand slide into mine did an idea come across my mind. It was a simple gesture, an innocent one really, but it was also one of the first things that happen in a relationship.

I played with idea a little in my head, subconsciously letting Jack somewhat lead our way otherwise we'd be in the hands of a dog for walking areas. He steered us towards a park that was gated and small enough for dogs to be let off their leashes, and thankfully, Bailey was wuss and never strayed too far from anyway. Just as I let her free, she ran off only to come back, and do it again, over and over as Jack and I started walking again.

Eventually we found a bench, sitting down and relaxing as Bailey scrambled around some trees. Now would be a great time to bring up my thoughts. So, leaning my head on Jack's shoulder, I looked up at him.

“Hey Jack?”
“Hmm?”
“I have an idea.” I said, and he tilted his head to look at me questionably. “I think, we should try to start over.”
“What?”
“Like, just a redo.” I explained, sitting up. “I mean, we did kind of broke up, and got back together. Instead of starting where we left off, I think we should somewhat start this up again like it's a whole new relationship.”
“And how are we going to do that?” He asked, clearly confused. I smiled, feeling like this was a really, really good idea.
“We just take things slow,” I said. “And we can do fun, stupid couple things again.”
“Like...real dates?”
“Like real dates.” I laughed. “Stupid movies and shitty dinners. You know, those things we used to love.”
“And now hate.” He pointed out, but he was starting to smile too.
“But we can just pretend to like them again.” I assured. “And we can be all lame and innocent again.”
“What I'm hearing now is no sex for awhile.”
“It's not like we've been doing anything anyway.” I shrugged, and Jack seemed to think about it.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” I asked, getting excited.
“Yes, okay.” He laughed at me. “How are we supposed to be engaged and new coupley though?”
“Hmm,” I though about it for a second. “What if, we set up a date and start making plans. For everything we complete, we can move up on the relationship scale.”
“You are the weirdest and most adorable girl on the planet.” He said with an eye roll. “Okay, what date then?”
“Uhh,” I blanked. “I have to pick?”
“Yep.”
“There's no special day you want to do this one?”
“Nope.” He popped.

I thought about it for a few moments. I didn't want to do anything too cliché, like the day we met (which is our parents wedding day anyway) or when we got together. I kept thinking of things that were special to both or each of us but none of the dates I was coming up with mattered that much.

But one idea did come to mind.

“I think I know what date we should do this on.” I finally spoke up.
“Oh?”
“How about, July 19th?” I asked.
“The day The Party Scene was made?” He asked, and I nodded. “Why?”
“It was the start of everything for you, us, our friends.” I said. “Everyone who's involved in our lives. Why not?”
“Alright. But that means we have less than a year.”
“It won't take that long. Plus, it's only September now.” I shrugged.
“So, can this count as our first date?”
“Nope.” I said, getting up and whistling for Bailey. “That's your job to think of something.”

Jack groaned, leaning back on the bench as I got Bailey back on her leash. Once I stood up again, I held out my hand to help him up, so we could go home, and move on.
