So Wrong, It's Right

Weeks Run By

Jack's evaluation was going to be on Friday. All we had to do was wait till Friday.

Tuesday.

Everyone met up after school to go to Alex's house so they could talk about the record deal. Matt even drove up to tell us all about it. Right now, Jack, Zack, Alex, and I (who was on Jack's lap) were sitting on the sofa Rian and Cass took up the chair together, while Matt stood in front of us, getting ready to speak.

“Alright, so someone from Hopeless Records was at your show on Saturday.” He started. “It was one of the companies I emailed about us, giving them dates of when and where we'll be playing, and leaving my number for them to call. Which as we all know I did. He said that you guys not only sound great, but your performance on stage is fun and engaging. Something that they really like about upcoming bands.”
“So...are we in or what?” Alex asked, and Matt shushed him.
“I'm getting there. Anyway, so we have to a few things before the deal can be signed and approved. First of all, since a few of us,” he looked at Jack and I. We were the youngest in our group, having the latest birthdays. “are still underage, and we are in school right now. The company wants to make sure it's okay with our parents. We need to go to a meeting with them too, to talk out everything we want out of this contract and how it will work. Lastly, they want to see another performance just to make sure we are what they want.”
“When does this all have to be done by?” Rian asked, Matt flipped through the notebook he had and spoke.
“First, they're gonna see your guys' show in New York in a couple weeks, then we have to set up a time for all of us, them, and our parents to sit down and discuss this. If that's all approved, they'll set up a date to have a meeting about the contract. If all goes well, we'll basically be sent on a tour right after graduation.”

“I can't believe this is actually happening!” Jack cheered, and I laughed.
“You guys are great, of course you're going to be famous.”
“We're gonna need a crew of some sort, won't we?” Zack asked. “All we have so far is Vin, Ember, and you, Matt.”
“Yeah, we do. They're gonna send some people who were interning as techs.” Matt said. “I have a friends who might be able to do lights.”
“This is going to be so legit!” Alex yelled.
“If our parent's approve.” Rian reminded him.
“Guys, if your parent didn't, they wouldn't have bought your instruments, or amps, or let you practice, or do shows.” I pointed out. “I'm sure they'll support you.”
“She's right.” Zack agreed with me.
“I always am.” I boasted.

Wednesday

The guys all decided to talk to their parents tomorrow. Leaving a day open for them to figure out their arguments in case any of the adults want to say no. Jack and I were going to my dad separately that he wanted me to go on tour with them. I didn't really have college plans anyway, I refused to be reminded that I'm growing up and have to get a real job eventually.

Right now, Jack and I were sprawled on our living room floor, doing homework. School ended in just a couple months. We need to keep our grades up. I was having issues with math, and I was about to tossed my book across the room.

However, I wasn't the only one having issues.

“Man, fuck this.” Jack suddenly bursted out and I looked over in time to see him snap his pencil.
“Jack?” I asked, worried. “What is it?”
“This stupid paper I have to do about fucking Catcher in the Rye. The book is stupid, and the kid is a whiney little fuck. I don't want to write three pages about the little asshole.”
“Whoa, maybe you should take a break.” I suggested, knowing exactly where this was going. “Here, let's play a video game or something for an hour its-”
“Oh will you just shut up?” Jack stood up. “I know what your doing! You're trying to distract me from this because I'm being ridiculous right? Well I'm not! This is stupid, school it fucking stupid. I don't need it.”
“Jack, seriously. Just breath-” I tried to cal him down but he wouldn't listen.
“No, fuck you. You don't get it.” He screamed. “You're smart, and normal. I, on the other hand, am lucky I've never been held back or something! You can't be understanding, cause you have no idea what I'm going through!”
“I know I don't.” I said calmly. “But I'm just tyring to help. Would you look at yourself? You're yelling at me cause your homework is a little hard.”
“It's not a little hard! It's a complete bullshit paper about a bullshit book. What are you even doing?” He looked at my book. “Math? Oh wow, fucking numbers. Must be real hard. Why did you even take Trigonometry if you can't do it?”
“I had to take it, since-”
“You finished all the other math courses, yeah, I know. Must be nice, now when you go to college you'll be ahead of the game.”
“You say that like I'm going.” I stated.
“Why wouldn't you? You think can just work in my band?”
“Considering you, Matt, and everyone else asked me too. Yeah.”
“Well we don't need you! What are you even going to do, huh? Do you even know shit about music?”
“You know what Jack?” I said, grabbing my stuff. “I don't have to sit here and take this. You don't want my help? Fine, then sit here and hate the whole world or whatever. I'm going to go to my room. Come gt me when you're done having a fit.”

I went to go up the stairs, but Jack grabbed me.

“Don't walk away from me!” He screamed.
“You just told me to basically leave you alone!”
“You said you wouldn't leave!”
“You're making no fucking sense right now!” I pulled my arm away from him. “For fuck's sake. Friday can't come soon enough!”

I ripped out of his hands and went to my room. I was pissed, beyond belief.

Thursday.

I didn't go to the meeting with the parents. Jack and I still weren't talking. He would loo at me with regret, and sad puppy dog eyes, but never said anything. I sure as hell wasn't going to do anything about this until he at least apologized. I knew he didn't mean it, and that he was just having one of his episodes, but it still hurt.

I didn't even know if we were going to still talk to our parents about me possibly going on this summer. I was just sitting in my room, listening to Simple Plan, and browsing the internet.

I got my answer when there was a knock on my door.

“Come in.” I called, going back to my computre.
“Hey hun.” It was my dad. He walked in and sat on my bed. “So...Jack asked me if you could go do this...tour thing with him.”
“He did?” I asked, a little shocked.
“Yeah, do you want to go?” Dad asked, looking confused.
“Oh, yeah. Of course I do. The guys are all my friends, and I love concerts.”
“Trust me, I know.” He laughed. “I remember you begging me to go with you to a venue for 18 and up when you were fourteen cause 'your favorite band ever' was playing.”
“Hey man, it was Green day and it was the only chance I have had to ever see them.”
“Anyway.” He said, once we got done laughing. “You can go.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” he patted my shoulder. “Just be careful, okay? I'm sure there will parties, drinks, and boys. Don't die, or worse, get pregnant.”
“How is that worse you jerk!” I shoved him, and he chuckled.
“Do you have any plans for college?”
“Um...no.” I admitted. “I don't know what would do to be honest.”
“Well, maybe that's why this opportunity came along.”
“Yeah,” I smiled. “Thanks dad.”
“Anytime sweetheart.”

With that, he left. I sighed, and decided I should at least go thank Jack for still wanting me to come along. Even if he was a dick yesterday.
