Let The Walls Break Down.
Hey there, it's good to see you again.
I had the phone in my hands; I had for the past ten minutes. I had managed to find the Gaskarth’s home number in our phone book and after a good while of debating with myself I had decided to call them. I pressed call on the touchpad and held the phone to my ear, the ringing sound seeming to go on forever. Maybe they’d moved house, or changed their number, I could be about to call a stranger for all I knew.
“Hello?” I froze as I heard the ringing halt and somebody answer, and I instantly recognised the voice.
“Urm, Hi, It’s Charlotte, is Alex home?” I asked, trying to control the shaking in my voice. I was never usually one to get nervous but apparently today was different. I knew Alex was in a band, All Time Low, and I heard they’d finished their most recent tour so I was holding out that he was at home.
“Charlotte? Well, long time no speak,” She laughed a little on the other end, “He’s just in his room unpacking, I’ll put him on shall I?”
I nodded before realised that she couldn’t even see me, “Oh yes please,” I was speaking as politely as possible, since it was probably quite strange to hear me calling after such a long time. I heard Mrs Gaskarth shouting to Alex that somebody was on the phone for him, and it felt like ten minutes before he made it to the phone, though it was probably only one or two.
“Hello?” I instantly recalled his voice, which sent a strange feeling through my gut.
“Alex? It’s Charlotte..” I waited for his response, what if he’d forgotten about me; after all it had been so long. Of course I remembered him, but he was so famous and constantly surrounded by girls, I was probably just another faded memory to him.
“Charlotte? Really? After all this time, ey?” I couldn’t tell whether he was being serious or messing around, after all this call was out of the blue, “Well, it’s good to hear from you. Is there anything you wanted?” He asked, I could make out a little confusion in his voice.
“Erm, no, I just wanted a chat really, I’ve missed you.” I chewed on my bottom lip as I awaited his response; he was more than likely busy with something or other but it was worth a shot.
“How cute, well how about you come round here for a bit, you still remember the address right?” He chuckled a little, completely unaware of how him even talking to me was making me feel.
“Okay, I’ll see you soon then,” My response probably sounded a little too enthusiastic but I didn’t really care at that moment in time.
“See you soon, Charlie.” He hung up before I could reply, but the fact he’d remembered my nickname made me incredibly happy, it also made me think back to the time when we were in high school.
I pulled on a plain blue hoodie over my t-shirt and put on my converse which just covered the ends on my skinny jeans before stepping out the door, locking it behind me. I probably could’ve made more of an effort but for some reason I felt comfortable just being casual around Alex, even if it had been years.
I hadn’t managed to get a driving licence yet, which was pretty pathetic, so it meant I had to walk to Alex’s but it wasn’t exactly a trek. I put my headphones in my ears and put my iPod on shuffle, hoping to make the journey pass quicker.
I walked along the streets for a good twenty minutes until I arrived outside the Gaskarth residence. I looked up at their door for a few seconds before ringing the bell, taking a step backwards after I had.
The door almost instantly opened and there I saw the boy who meant the world to me, yet I’d not talked to him for years. He looked practically the same, except now he had a little stubble but I wasn’t exactly complaining. I smiled up at him, staying quiet.
He stepped outside and hugged me tightly, I was a little taken aback but I hugged him back none the less.
“I’ve missed you Charlie, it’s good to see you again.” He mumbled, keeping his arms wrapped around me, his body heat transferring onto me.
“I’ve missed you too.” I replied simply, smiling to myself and resting my head on his shoulder.
