I Don't do American's

Party Scene

Mari’s P.O.V

We made it too Alex’s house. His mum greeted us at the door.
“Hi fellows! Oh, who’s this?” She smiled at me.
“Hi, I’m Mari.” I smiled.
“I’m Isobel.” She motioned us inside. I texted my mum and told her I was hanging with a few friends from school.
“What games do you play, Mari?” Alex asked, setting up his Xbox.
“I usually just like t’ watch.” I said, sitting on one of the couches. Alex’s basement was huge.
“Okay. Well the fridge is back there if you want something to drink.” He pointed towards the back. I nodded.

Me:
Is dad still home?
Mum: Sadly.
Me: I may crash at Jack’s then.
Mum: Okay, love you
Me: Love you too.

I felt the couch dip next to me.
“Who ya talking too?” Jack asked, leaning over my shoulder.
“Me mum. Hey can I possibly stay at your house tonight?” I whispered.
“Uh, sure.” He said. He looked confused as to why I asked. I saw him send a text to who I presume was his mum.
“Okay fellas! Halo Reach time!” Alex bellowed, throwing controllers at the boys. I giggled and began to watch.
“Have you played this before?” Jack nudged me.
“Yeah, back in Ireland I did with my ex.” I nodded, watching Jack get shot for the fifth or sixth time.
“Oh, wanna play for me?” He joked.
“Sure, I suck though.” I laughed and began playing. Surprisingly I killed all the boys and won somehow.
“How the fuck?” Alex asked, shocked.
“I am wonderin’ dat too.” I giggled, handing the controller back to Jack.
“Oh, you can.” Jack whispered.
“Tank you.” I smiled. We continued playing for hours; soon it was around two in the morning. Jack and I decided to head back to his place.

“I’m Joyce, you must be Mari.” Jack’s mum greeted us, I nodded and smiled. She gave me a hug.
“Oh, tank you.” I said, hugging her back.
“Where in Ireland are you from?” She asked, clearly intrigued.
“Dublin.” I smiled.
“Oh wow, that’s really cool!” She replied.
“Alright mum, we’re tired.” Jack said, annoyed by his mum’s questions.
“NO SEX IN THE HOUSE!” She yelled as we walked upstairs.
“WE WON’T!” Jack yelled back, clearly irritated. Once in his room, he shut the door. His walls were covered with band posters ranging from Green Day to Blink-182.
“You like Blink-182?” I asked.
“Yep.” He said, I turned around to see him changing into pajamas.
“Tanks for da warnin’.” I said, shielding my eyes.
“Hey, be lucky I’m wearing pants, I usually sleep in just boxers.” He smirked, then he threw me one of his shirts and a pair of shorts.
“Eh, I’ve probably seen worse.” I teased.
“So I’m sleeping on this mattress.” Jack pulled out one from under his bed. “And you’re sleeping on mine.”
“Jack, it’s yer house, I’ll sleep on dat one.” I said, motioning towards the one he pulled out.
“Nope, you’re a guest!” He plopped onto the lower mattress, claiming it as his own.
“Jerk.” I muttered, sitting on his bed. It was actually really comfy. He took one of his pillows and a spare blanket. I laid down, staring at his ceiling. Why did he care so much?
“Can I ask you a question?” Jack asks, breaking the silence.
“Shoot.” I turn so I’m facing him.
“Why don’t you talk much about your dad?” He asked. I could tell him now. I could tell him my dad’s a drug dealer. I could get him arrested so my mum and I could move home. Maybe I should.
“I just don’t. I don’t like talkin’ bout him.” I fight the urge to tell him the truth.
“Oh.” He says. I look at the clock, it was three AM.
“Jack, why do you care so much?” I asked.
“You’re different.” He looked at me.
“What do ya mean?” I was intrigued. I mean, yeah I’m foreign, but other than that, I’m not much different.
“Just you’re personality. I’ve only known you for what…a day? And I already feel like I’ve known you for a life time.” He said, staring at the ceiling.
“Oh.” I whispered. No one’s said that to me before.
“I’m going to turn out the light and go to sleep, night Mar.” Jack said, turning out the overhead light.
“Night Jack.” I smiled.

The persistent beeping of the alarm woke me from the dream I was having. It was a good one too. I was back home, my mum, my siblings were alive and we were together. I miss my sisters.
“Morning.” Jack said groggily.
“Top o’ da mornin’ to ya!” I giggled.
“Why is your accent so cute?” Jack chuckled, getting up and getting dressed.
“I don’t know. Ah shit, I don’t have someting to wear.” I sighed.
“My sister might! What size are ya?” Jack asked.
“I don’t know American sizes yet…” I sighed. Jack just grabbed my clothes from last night and ventured to his sisters room.
“Jack!” I heard a girl whine. Then there was a hushed whisper. Jack reappeared with who I assumed was his sister.
“This is May, May this is Mari. Help her get dressed.” He motioned me too follow her. I walked behind her towards her room.
“So I’m you’re size, I have some clothes you can borrow.” She smiled, guiding me to her closet. It had every type of clothing. I grabbed a basic dress. I could just wear my converse with it so I didn’t mind. I thanked her and walked into Jack’s room. He must have gone downstairs, so I took the opportunity to change. I ran the comb I had in my purse through my hair. I grabbed my things and made my way downstairs.
“Tanks so much fer lettin’ me stay da night.” I thanked Joyce.
“It was a pleasure having you.” She smiled, hugging me. I hugged her back.
“We’re gonna be late for school!” Jack shouted, grabbing my hand and pulling me out the door.
“I don’t even have my backpack.” I whined as we started the walk towards Dulaney.
“Who says were going to school?” Jack asked.
