Long Distance Calls

Seventeen

"Come in!" York yelled from her bedroom when she heard the doorbell ring.

Moments later a hello was yelled back making York being to rush around more as she tired to change out of her work clothes. Her bitch of a boss had made her stay late once more, making her late for her plans that night with Rian. It was his last night in town before he went back on the road and Abbey was at Alex's house. They had planned that she would pick up the food and drinks while Rian brought the snacks and movies. And because of her stupid boss, she had made it home only moments before Rian was supposed to show up and she had been hoping that maybe he would be late for once. But of course old habits die hard and he showed up right on time while she was still trying to get ready.

"York?"

Nearly tripping as she tried to slip on her shorts and rush to the door at the same time she opened the door slightly and saw him standing there in her living room wearing a smirk. "I'll be right out. Get the plates and the largest cups we have. I need a drink."

York didn't leave time for him to respond and just slammed her bedroom door once more and then turned to the huge mess on her floor. She was standing there in a pair of pajama shorts and a bra with her hair still up into what she had twisted it into for work that morning and trying to find something to wear. Finally she settled for a shirt of Rian's she had stolen from him a while back and slipped it on over her head and then reached up to undo her hair and then simply shook it out and let it hang. Quickly looking herself over in her full length mirror in the corner, she wiped off her makeup and then deemed herself presentable and turned to go find Rian.

When she walked into her living room she found Rian sitting on the couch with the TV on and two plates of the Chinese food she had picked up on the coffee table. Rian looked up when he heard her coming and smiled when he saw what shirt she was wearing then quickly looked away to the TV.

"I put in the first movie of the night." Was the first thing he said as she took a seat next to him on the couch and tucked her feet underneath her as she grabbed her plate.

"Awesome, what is it?"

Rian turned and smirked as he pressed play and the movie began to play. "Its a surprise."

York just rolled her eyes and settled back as she took her first bite of food and had to hold back the groan she wanted to give. She had barely eaten breakfast, getting a mini lecture from Abbey to add to the trouble. Then had been forced to skip through lunch due to the fact that her boss decided to tell her that she needed some papers on her desk, typed up and multiple copies printed before lunch was done. The bitch had also added that if she got any food stains on them 'like last time' that she was never going to get that promotion that she had been wanting. But she had been saying that for years, ever since she had first mentioned it to her, back when she thought she could trust her. Though York quickly learned what a mistake that had been and had been living with the consequences for three years now.

Then when she saw that The Dark Knight Rises was playing, her favorite movie of all time mostly because of her unhealthy crush on a certain villain, she nearly screamed. She turned towards Rian and went to kiss his cheek but at that exact time he decided to turn his head and instead of meeting his cheek, their lips touched. York jerked away quickly and blushed, looking away as fast as she could to the screen.

Rian seemed just as embarrassed as she was from what she could tell. Though York didn't want to look over to see. But from the fact that he was sitting as far away from her as he could that was a clue. Usually when they were having a movie night they were right next to each other sharing food since they basically ordered everything off the menu.

York made a noise when Bane came on screen again making Rian chuckle. "What is it with you and Tom Hardy?"

"What!? He's the best actor on the face of the earth! He goes from the hopeless romantic in one movie and then mean and the best villain in another! Not to mention he's perfect! What isn't there to be obsessed about?"

And just like that the ice was broken and thankfully everything was somewhat back to normal once more. Through the whole movie York obsessed over Bane and then once it was over York had a dreamy smile on her face making Rian roll his eyes.

"I don't know why you're smiling. He's dead."

York threw a pillow at him and pouted. "No, he's not."

"Uh yeah, he is. There is no way he could have survived that blast!"

It was York's turn to roll her eyes at that. "Did you see all that armor he was wearing!? He's alive. And besides, no body not dead. There has to be proof of death like Talia where you watched her die. There is no way she's coming back. She's dead as a doornail. Take Thor for instance. Loki supposedly went floating into space and presumed dead then BAM he shows up seeking revenge in Avengers. OH! And in X-Men! Jean 'supposedly' drowned in the lake saving the rest of her team and then magically appears in the last movie as the Phoenix!"

York then went into a whole speech about different movies where that happened and then continued to explain why exactly why she loved Bane so much. Long after the credits rolled and the start menu began playing over and over again.

After getting no where with the conversation they finally gave up and then chose another movie to watch and settled back on the couch, sitting close together and sharing a blanket. When that movie was over it was nearing midnight and they decided to go sleep. They both headed to York's room and climbed into her bed and said a quick goodnight before both falling asleep.

When York woke the next morning it was to the smell of food being cooked and got up and made her way into the kitchen. But before she even got there she knew what Rian was making. It was their tradition to make their special pancakes with bacon and fruit. And when she got to the kitchen she found Rian at the stove where she figured he would be. It was also a tradition that whoever was up first would start breakfast and when the other woke then they would help also. So she got to work cutting fruit and getting the coffee in mugs and made the way they liked it and set the table. By the time she was done, Rian was also and they sat at the table, sharing the paper and keeping up a light conversation.

"Um, I should get going." Rian mentioned as they finished cleaning up the dishes.

York simply nodded and told Rian she would finish up while he got ready. When he made it back into the kitchen she was done and drying her hands on a dish towel.

"You all set then?"

Rian nodded and adjusted the strap of his bag. "Yeah I need to get a shower and finish packing."
"Yeah ok, um be safe of? And call me-"

"Every hour?" Rian teased making her blush and punch him.

"Shut up Robert, no. I wasn't going to every hour. I was going to say every minute."

He laughed and pulled her in for a hug, making her sigh as she rested her head on his shoulder. "I'm going to miss you York. Promise me you'll be ok when I'm gone."

York nodded against his shoulder making him tighten his grip on her once more. "I promise."

Rian nodded as he pulled away and York noticed that he looked uneasy. But before she could ask what was going on, Rian was leaning in and his lips were suddenly on hers and pressing firmly. Before she could even think of what to do his lips were suddenly gone and he was quickly picking up his bag and saying a quick bye before he was gone.

Notes

Ok so this is really late. Again. And I'm really sorry. Again. But hopefully this chapter isn't complete crap like I think it is... I had no idea how to end it so it just became a cliff hanger. Oops.

And I may or may not have based the whole Tom Hardy obsession thing on myself. I just have a weakness for muscular guys and British accents. *Ahem* Anyway... and the whole 'Bane isn't dead because there was no body' conversation may or may not have been based on one my friends and I had after seeing TDKR... Don't judge me.

Haha anyway I am sorry that I haven't updated and I promise I will try to be better at it!!! Love you all!!!
