Long Distance Calls

Twelve

Abbey fell asleep during the movie, her day must have exhausted her a lot. I smiled as I held her to my side. Sure, we didn't see eye to eye when we first met, but we got past it and gave each other a chance to be civil and get to know each other. Turned out York and Rian were right to get me and Abbey together, we were perfect for each other it seemed. Abbey has a similar drive as I do, hers focused on her studies and me with the band. She and I are both romantics.

But we both have anxiety. Hers is worse than mine and she had told me what her biggest fear was: being alone. She developed the fear of loneliness when her dad skipped out on her and her mom when she was six. How I know this? Abbey and I talked about it during the two hours between our kiss and her leaving with York after the dinner a couple nights ago.

I turned off the movie and my entire entertainment set up and carried Abbey up to my room. I laid her down on my bed and grabbed a shirt for Abs to sleep in for the night.

"Abbey, wake up," I tapped her shoulder gently.

"Alex, what's going on," she groaned in response before letting out a huge yawn.

"Why don't you change into my shirt to sleep in for the night," I told her, "You might feel more comfortable than in your current attire."

"Thanks," she smiled as she stripped out of her shorts and her shirt right in front of me. I admired her confidence to change in front of me.

"Do you want me to sleep in here with you or do you want space tonight," I asked her while I changed into my own sleepwear.

"I don't mind sleeping in the same bed as you," she replied as she climbed into my bed.

"Okay," I replied as climbed into my side of the bed and I pulled her to me before turning off the lamp by my bed. Abbey and I soon fell asleep together peacefully.
After Abbey went home to her apartment, I chose to hang with Rian. I knew he liked York a lot, more than friends. But he never really acted on it. I think I could talk to Abbey about trying to return the favor to our friends and get them together. I think Rian and York would make each other really happy.

"Hey Rian," I greeted my friend as I walked into the kitchen as he enjoyed a cup of coffee, something he could never live without.

"Sup Alex," he replied.

"Nothing much," I replied, "How are things with York?"

"She's been rejecting my calls and ignoring my texts," he replied, "I'm a little worried about her."

"Abbey told me she was worried about her too," I told him, "York was avoiding her for a couple days, right after we started dating."

"Maybe Abbey can figure out what's going on," I told him.

"It seems like Abbey is the only hope to figure that out," Rian replied, "York and Abbey live together and they are really close."

"You've got that right," I told him, "Hopefully we can get York to open up before we leave for tour."
