Eight.
Ashley POV:
Exactly one week later I had moved in with Alex and I had a new job, as promised. My parents weren’t convinced at first, but they knew Alex was a good guy. And they were delighted about my new job. Since I loved fashion and had studied to be a designer, Alex had found the perfect job for me. And even though I’d never finished my studies, they wanted to give me a chance. I was going to design clothes for Glamour Kills!
Things with Emily got.. Jeez. I don’t know if things with Emily got better or worse. She was staying at Rian’s place now and she and Noah were a thing now I guess. I didn’t know what to think of it, so I just tried not to think about it at all.
“Ready?” Alex asked me when I came down the stairs. “Yes.” I smiled. “Nervous?” “A bit.” He chuckled. “C’mon, it’s not like you’re going to meet them for the first time.” He said. “True. But I am going to meet them for the first time as your girlfriend.” I answered. “True.” He half-smiled as we walked towards his car.
So, today I was going to meet his parents. We were having dinner over there and I hadn’t seen them in a very long time, so yeah, I was pretty nervous.
When Alex parked the car in the driveway, a lot of memories came back. I used to spend so much time here in this house, this garden.. I got out of the car and he put his arm around my waist as he rang to doorbell. The friendly face of Alex’ mom appeared in the doorway. “Alexander!” “Hey mom.” Alex smiled and pulled his mom in a tight hug. “I’m sure you remember Ashley?” He said, smiling at me. “Hello, miss Gaskarth.” “Oh, Ashley, please call me Isobel like you used to.” I smiled at her and she hugged me. We walked through the familiar hallway to the dining room. The table was already set and I could smell that we were eating pasta. Isobel must have remembered that it was my favorite dish. “Ashley Sparks, is that you?” Peter Gaskarth walked towards us. “Yes, it’s me.” “It’s so good to finally see you again.” He gave me a hug. “How was New York?” he said while giving Alex a hug as well. “Not half as nice as Baltimore.” I grinned.
“That was delicious, Isobel.” I said after we finished dinner. “Thank you, darling.” She smiled. Suddenly Alex’ phone started buzzing. “I’m sorry, I have to take this.” he said and walked into the hallway. “So, how is it to be back in Baltimore?” Isobel asked me. “It’s great. Being here makes me realize how much I’ve actually missed it.” She nodded. “You used to spend a lot of time here with Alexander, I remember that well.” I smiled. “You two were already inseperable from the beginning.”
“Ashley, grab your things, we have to go.” I looked confused at Alex as he entered the room again. “What’s wrong?” I asked him, but he didn’t answer. “Mom, dad, I’m sorry but it’s something important.” He hugged his parents and then took my hand, leading me to the door. By the time we were sitting in his car, I got annoyed. “Was that really necessary? What’s so important?” He was still not answering me. When he parked on the driveway of his house and handed me the key I was even more confused. “It was Jack. I need to go see him, I’ll be back in an hour, promise.” He kissed the top of my head and as soon as I’d stepped out of the car, he drove away.
Alex POV:
I drove as fast as I could. Jack had been really upset on the phone. I hadn't heard from him in a whole week, and that was a very long time for us. He'd almost begged me to come immediately to his house. I parked my car in his driveway and opened the door with the key he'd once given me. "Jack!" I shouted through the house. "Jaaack! Where are you?" I ran upstairs and found him in his bedroom. "Fuck, Jack, what happened?" He sat on the ground in the corner of his room, crying with a bottle of Jack in his hands and I could see it wasn't the first one. I kneed down before him and took the almost empty bottle out of his hands. "You've had enough for today." I said. It broke my heart, seeing him like this. I'd seen Jack cry before, but not like this. This was heartbreaking. "I broke her heart and now she is with someone else." Jack sobbed. "Emily?" Why did I have to ask this stupid question? He nodded. "I saw her today. She was with that guy that used to be friends with you and Ashley." I sat down next to him and sighed. "I know. It seems like she's having this thing with Noah now.." He looked at me, and I looked right in the eyes of a broken man. "What have I done, Alex? Why the fuck did I cheat on that perfect girl?" I didn't know what to answer, so I just hugged him tightly. "It's going to be okay, Jack. It's all going to be okay."
