Don't Forget I'm a Lightweight

Chapter Nine: Just Like The Past Should

Jack’s POV

I wake up the next morning to Green Day’s song, When I Come Around, blaring through my alarm, signaling I need to be awake so I can get ready for long day ahead of me to teach the students of our generation.

Reluctantly, I get out the warm bed I lay in and grab clothing before taking a daily shower.

When I’m in, the water clears my head, telling me I need to fix the broken boy once again.

He’s scared, alone, a boy who needs guidance and someone that he can confide into.

He doesn’t have that and I can tell. Everyone needs someone to confide into, this boy doesn’t and if I may, I’d like to be that person.

Once the shower water goes cold, I quickly change and rush down the many of spiral staircases that live in the house, all made of glass with a gold finished railing that even if a small part of it was torn or worn down, the whole thing would be worthless.

I get down the stairs and don’t bother to make a cup of coffee as I hate to drink it, only when I need that extra spark in the morning, but I don’t anymore. The caramel haired boy gives that to me so why waste Kona coffee? I mean that stuff is thirty dollars a pound, not that I’m complaining, I mean if you have the money to buy it, why don’t you?

Walking out the door, I head to my huge, car filled garage. Deciding on I don’t want to get my car stolen by a bunch of high schoolers, I go against my black Maserati and go for just a Volkswagen Beetle in just a light blue color with the license plate in all caps saying “Barakat.”

Unlocking the car door and heading into it I head out of the garage and drive along the paved driveway, leaving the prestigious home alone until I finish up my job teaching the future people who just may run the country one day.

It takes a little while to get down to school but when you live right outside town then what can you expect?

I get to school right at the time I need to be there and walk into my classroom, no students in it currently but will start to fill in the next twenty minutes.

With nothing to do as I planned all the classes for the next week to work on the partner projects I decide to plug in my headphones into my cell phone and let the rhythm of Mark Robb, a semi-known YouTube vlogger and musician, go through my ears with his cover of Goodnight Moon by Go Radio.

*Twenty Five Minutes Later*

“Mr. Barakat?” A voice calls me out of my daze.

“Wha- Oh god, sorry about that class. I tend to get lost in the music when I have my headphones in.” I apologize to the class, taking out my headphones as the students look at me with wide eyes.

“Go to your partner from yesterday, we’re going to be working on our project for the next week.” I say and the class talks quietly to their partners until the end of the period when the bell rings and then the day goes on swiftly, and that's when I see Alex and Pierre come in, talking about something suspicious.

Alex’s POV

“So your telling me that Tess and Bree came up to you and confronted you on the past?” Pierre asks me as we walk into History.

“Yeah, and I haven’t spoken to them in years. I’m so lost and confused on my past to the point where I don’t even know if my brother was my brother.” I tell him before taking my seat and shutting my mouth when I see my old friend and her girlfriend walk in the door.

Once everyone is in the class, I turn to look up at Jack, the speaker.

“Class, work on your projects, you have the rest of this class week to work on it.”
After he talks I turn to look at Tess, who looks at me with happy eyes and smile that could light up the sky.

“S-s-so, should we g-get started on the pr-project.” A raspy stutter comes out of a voice so soft from the girl in front of me.

“Tess! You talked, I’m so proud of you!” Nicks says, praising her broken and wounded girlfriend with happy tears and peppered kisses.

Whispers of words coming from everyone's mouths come out in crazy bursts, making

Jack yell out to knock it off or he’ll send them to the principals office.

“I think we should, so according to the rubric we get to play Twenty Questions to get to know each other.” I tell her.

“We already know each other Alex. I’ve known you for so long.” She tells me but we look back to the rubric and get started on more things, later deciding we should hang after school to get our old friendship back on track and straighten out things, just like they should be.

The bell rings and I don’t move from my seat, wanting to talk Jack before I leave out the door and leave to meet Tess by her locker.

“Alex, why are you still here, I dismissed you already.” Jack says, looking up at me from his papers.

“Why did you kiss me yesterday?” I ask abruptly and he stares into my glazed caramel brown eyes in so much shock, it could light up a flame and set spark to any forest in the United States.
